    Personalized Willem Arondeus Tour
Henk was such a wonderful tour guide on my first trip to Amsterdam. We share an admiration (obsession really) for Willem Arondeus, Frieda Belinfante and Soerjd Bakker, and Henk put together a fantastic personal tour, revealing new facts, locations and stories I was completely unaware of. Aside from his expert knowledge, storytelling skills and passion for LBTQ history, Henk is also a wonderful person and such a delight to walk around the city and talk with. I can’t wait for Bet van Beeren’s bar to open again so I can return to Amsterdam and buy my new friend a drink!

A private tour held for American high school students
Henk gave a private queer tour of the Rijksmuseum to a small group of American high school students. The Rijksmuseum is an iconic building and part of the city, so it was great to get a private tour of it. A 2 hours tour was too long for our group, so perhaps we'll do a shorter one next time.

LGBT Tour. HENK is a fountain of information!!
Did the LGBT tour with Henk. He’s knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. And funny? This guy has a great sense of humor. We learned so much about the history of the LGBT movement and some of the activists who led the fight for the rights we have today as LGBT people. Thanks Henk! Great afternoon spent with you! Next time we are in Amsterdam, drinks are on us! Shawn & Jon.

    Excellent tour, great guide
I took the LGBT history walking tour with Henk. He is an excellent guide, very friendly and knowledgeable about the city, and passionate about history. He took me and my friend to some interesting sights in the city center and gave us information about the sights that we would not have found on our own. Afterward, Henk took us to a great local bar where we continued chatting. I highly recommend this tour.

    Highly recommended LGBT history tour
Don’t miss out on one of Henk’s tours if you’re visiting Amsterdam! I did his LGBT walking history tour and it really gave me an in-depth perspective of the rich LGBT history and culture this wonderful city has to offer. Henk is fun and friendly and has a fountain of knowledge to share with you. Highly recommended!

    Amazing tour
It is my first time in a LGBT tour ever and I found it very interesting. Henk has a lot of knowledge about the city, history in the city and LGBT hystory. It was just amazing to hear him tell stories in different places of the city from the LGBT perspective. And having a beer with him and the other participants at the end and share stories was just the perfect ending.Totally recommended!

    Amsterdam with a Friend
One of the best tours I've been on. It felt as if we were walking around Amsterdam with an incredibly knowledgeable friend. Chill, relaxed and highly informational about the LGBT community.

    Rich in historical facts
Henk is a very intelligent guy, and I felt like in an audio encyclopedia tour. He has a good sense of humor and carries out the tour very harmonically and yet full of information. I was very interested in all the historical parts of the Lbgt facts, that made what Amsterdam is today. The tour is a nice relaxed walk through the city that gives you a detailed insight into how things were in the past, finishing with a drink at one of the oldest gay bars in town. Next time I will bring not only my gay friends but also my straight ones. Thanks.

    Highly recommended!
We have joined this LGBT+ History tour of Henk as a group of LGBT+ newcomers of the Cocktail project of COC Amsterdam (a project empowering the LGBT+ refugees/asylum seekers community in Amsterdam by introducing them to the city, its people and its institutions and creating a social, safe environment to further build and expand their social network in this city). Our group, 10 persons, very much enjoyed the tour and often were impressed and surprised by some hidden or hardly known details within the LGBT+ history of our city. Henk combined facts of the city and its (LGBT+) history with a broad range of personal stories. He has been residing the city for quite a while and experienced how the city has changed during the past decades first hand. This shows in the way he tells these stories. For us it was often very striking to see similarities of the history of our city (with respect to human and LGBT+ rights) and the situation we still face in 76 of the countries in the world. Tolerance and acceptance towards the LGBT+ community here in Amsterdam has made so much progress over the past decades/centuries! However, we cannot deny it has been quite a long journey. Henk, who is a great story teller, explained the highlights (and lowlights) of this journey in a very informative and enthusiastic way. Covering important events and landmarks (like the Homo-monument and “het Mandje”). We definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting our city. Thank you Henk, for taking us on this tour!

A wonderful lens to learn about the history of Amsterdam
I would highly recommend Henk’s LGBT history walking tour. He was knowledgeable and fun to talk to, passionate about discussing the history and culture of the Netherlands, and has put together a nice low key, informative, and worthwhile tour. I went solo but this would be fun for couples, families, or other individuals.

I really loved the LGBT history tour with Henk! He really knows a lot about the subject and he knows how to entertain people with his keen remarks. I think that all people should do this tour at least once. Doesn't matter if your hetero, gay, lesbian, transgender, young or old, from the Netherlands or a tourist, black or white. It's important to learn about the history of LGBT emancipation and history. Thanks Henk! Keep up the good work!

Three hours of enjoyment. Henk knows how to charismatically convey knowledge about a history that is still underexposed. From entertaining anecdotes about cruising in the seventeenth century to stories about the difficult existence of café 't Mandje. Henk has a wonderful narrative and reading voice and knows how to intrigue his listeners from start to finish with his historical knowledge and pleasant presence. I had a blast!

I went with friends (all straight and 1 gay) to the tour with Henk. To my big surprise I was sucked into the history of the gays in Europe and The Netherlands and heard beautiful stories while taking a walk in the city. Henk was friendly, going with our mood and was absolutely excellent. A MUST when in Amsterdam.

Really pleased with attending this tour. Henk is a very passionate and dedicated person! The tour is an excellent opportunity to see Amsterdam from a different perspective - LGBT community and movement history in the city and the NL. The story-telling stretches from the Golden age to the modern days, taking you through the shaping of the Dutch society of the modern days.
Highly recommended!

Henk knew so much about LGBTQ+ history. He told us things about Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Europe and queer history in general. His knowledge on this matter was really impressive. I should have done this tour way earlier. Afterwards, I felt prouder to be myself as a gay person and I felt more empowered to spread awareness of the queer community and its history. Thank you so much for this experience, Henk.

A very interesting and inspiring tour in which participants are thoroughly informed about the history of the LGBT community in Amsterdam. The tour was profound and therefor very informative. Henk took us to the most important places in Amsterdam, he took the time to explain and show us everything. Even for those who already have quite a bit of knowledge of the gay history, I would surely recommend this tour. The tour will also be an eye-opener for them. Finally, the tour was a nice walk through the beautiful city of Amsterdam.

Our Diversity & Inclusion group at Lucid Software organised a Walking tour with Henk to help our team members getting to know more about LGBT+ history in Amsterdam. Both members and non-members of the LGBT+ community found the tour VERY interesting. Henk brings the light on times in History that are usually not spoken about, we all learnt so much and had great conversation about what it all means for us in present times. We already repeated the tour with a second group and we are definitely keeping in touch with Henk for more tours for new team members joining our company later.
Thank you so much Henk!

We booked Henk's tour as part of a conference for queer archivists. Doing a tour for 'queer history professionals' can be tough but Henk did a really good job presenting an interesting overview of Dutch queer history, teaching us facts we didn't know and telling a moving story of our big queer family. Henk is a very friendly and patient guide who is always open for questions and able to answer them.

In April 2022, the Rainbow Lions (ING's employee network for LGBTI+ colleagues and allies) joined Henk on a tour of 400+ years of LGBTI+ history in Amsterdam, with a special focus on what happened in and with the community during the 2nd WW. It was a very inspiring tour with lots of interesting and moving facts, highlighting many people and events. In a very pleasant pace, Henk took us through Amsterdam, sharing all he knows, often adding a personal touch to it. We very much enjoyed and appreciated it!
From a business perspective I'd like to add that it's very pleasant cooperating with Henk, as he quickly responds to queries and enthusiastically thinks along with you, aiming to make the tour the most pleasant and interesting experience for all involved. So, I'd highly recommend joining his LGBTI+ tours of Amsterdam, for both private individuals, as well as businesses!

Thank you. More and more companies and organisations find us. As they realize its important to be inclusive and diverse. The tours enlightens the long road the community has gone. So not only for gays, for allies and enlightened companies as well. :-)

Henk was an amazing guide - it was great to hear him weave personal anecdotes amongst the history, and use the past to reflect on the situation of LGBTQ+ people today. You not only got a sense of how LGBTQ+ fit into the story of the city, but a real sense of community, from the queer comrades fighting off Nazis and raiding the city registry, to the gay men who refused to pay to enter nightclubs in the world’s first gay capital - all while raising money for vital research on AIDs. A fantastic tour - highly recommend.
