Tower with a view!
Jan 2020
Well worth a visit- several items of interest on each floor- take the lift to the viewing platform (don't climb the steps up unless you're a masochist!),and choose a clear day!

Interesting museum and bells
Thankfully there is an elevator so you can skip a lot of the stairs. Each floor had an interesting little museum and be sure to experience the top bell drum in motion (every 15 minutes).

Good view of the whole city from top
Oct 2019
Besides the great views at the top, before you get on the elevator to get you to the top, there's a mechanical carillon drum that rings the bells every 15 min.. You can read its history and how it works.

Good history and excellent views over Ghent.
Nov 2019
A good visit for the four of us. Lift after the first floor - important for oldies like us. A museum on every floor including the old dragon from the spire now replaced. The giant music box type mechanism which works the bells every hour is well worth a visit in its own right.
You’ll enjoy!

Would recommend to include if visiting Gent, the views are fantastic, to see the working bells very unusual and the elevator is a bonus.

Easy to use

It was easy to use these tickets but I'm not sure going up is a "must see". It's nice just to walk around Ghent.

The view is amazing

The Belfort tower is a MUST visit in Ghent. This place is definitely worth visiting. The entrance ticket is 8 e and no need to buy tickets beforehand (I managed to buy the ticket on spot). The big plus is that there is an elevator so you do not have to climb the whole staircase to the top on your own. It was quite interesting to read some information about Belfry inside the tower. And also I witnessed the moving of the mechanism for church bells. Quite exciting to see what makes church bells ring :)
Climbing upstairs was quite scary I must say. The staircase is quite narrow, you should walk very carefully and also it was not easy to allow to pass people coming from the other direction. But it is worth it! When you come to the top a beautiful view of the town meets you there! (on top it is also very narrow and only 2 people can fit and also it is very windy! )

Appealing from exterior, nothing interesting interior
Jul 2019 • Family
If you are a fan of climbing on bell towers, then you might be disappointed by this landmark. There are several things to consider:
1) there is no open place on the top of the tower where you could freely walk to obverse the vicinity and view of the city. There are only two stages where you go outside on an extremely narrow balcony, where two thin persons barely could pass each other.
2) there is only one round stairs. The passage on it is not quite clear: which direction you are allowed to enter. That's why it can be very scary to meet someone going in an opposite direction, so you have to find a way to give them a way and to fall down.
There is a lift inside, but still organisation of people's flow is very poor if we compare that with the bell tower in Mechelen city, for example.
3) Interior. I didn't find anything interesting inside. It is just very simple and it doesn't seem to be valuable to see for the price of the ticket. Sorry.

Fascinating and great value
Jul 2019
Really enjoyed this and great value for 8 euro - we went up to the top of the tower, watched a fascinating video about how the church bells are made, saw the mechanisms actually working the bell (which you can see every 15 minues), and all the bells in the top of the tower. Definitely worth a visit and great for kids too - and there's a lift so you don't have to go the whole way up via a narrow winding staircase, which we were relieved about!

Beautiful View
Jun 2019
First and foremost, there is an elevator. I don't remember reading that anywhere. There was stairs to climb, but very few in the grand scheme. If you want to burn off the beer, chocolate, fries, and waffles, then by all means, take the stairs all the way up. The walkway at the top is VERY narrow, you cannot pass around other sight-seers... period.
