What to expect
  • Discover the natural wonders of Tahiti on this inner-island safari tour by 4WD vehicle. After your guide picks you up from your hotel in downtown Papeete or at the wharf, hop into the Jeep for a thrilling ride — traversing rough roads best accessed by a 4x4 vehicle. Make your first stop at Mount Marau, a former 19th-century French fortress. Treat yourself to a gorgeous vista of the lush, rainforest-clad Punaruu Valley and snap photos of the island's highest peaks: Orohena, Aorai, Tetufera and Teamaa. Your tour continues to the Arahoho Blowhole, an unmarked roadside attraction created over eons by liquid lava, when battering surf undercut the basalt shoreline and eroded a tunnel-like passageway. When large waves crash into the rocks, watch in awe as a geyser-like plume of seawater shoots into the air and sprays onlookers.  Check out the local surfers and the black-sand beach before re-boarding the Jeep. You’ll enter to the Faaurumai Valley near Tahiti’s north coast to visit the three waterfalls of the Cascades of Faarumai — nestled in nearly impenetrable rainforest of hutu and mape trees. It’s an easy 5-minute walk to Vaimahutu Falls, which plunges 100 feet (30 meters) into a crystal-clear pool below.  Follow your guide along a 20-minute rainforest walk to reach the other two cascades, Haamaremare Iti and Haamaremare Rahi, and spend time at the final waterfall with a refreshing swim if you’d like. Back in your 4WD vehicle, make the return trip to Papeete where your full-day tour ends.

Beautiful Scenery but Exhaust Sickness
We just wanted a tour of the interior of Tahiti given it’s generally inaccessible but got a lot more than we bargained for. The “jeep” is actually a truck with bench seating inside of a covered frame in the bed. That’s mostly fine except this truck model has the exhaust in the front positioned where it gets sucked directly into the bed. I was the first to notice but everyone in the group got sick as a result. At the midpoint of the trip, you stop to go to a restaurant. That’s fine but we didn’t have a lot of local currency and mostly credit cards and USD but we were told they accept both, which turned out not to be true (also the food is not good and overpriced which you wouldn’t know because prices aren’t on the menu). As a result we were held hostage by the rude driver after, waiting to drop off everyone around the city so he could drive us around to ATMs as this was how he demanded payment. The trip features great scenery (only reason why this isn’t 1 star) but it was ruined by these problems and ruined our larger vacation for 2 days after from being sick from the exhaust.

Fantastic Tour
Dec 2020
As a solo traveler, I had an amazing time. Friendly and informative guide, convivial group of fellow travelers, and getting to see a side of Tahiti that too many miss out on. What could be better?

Adventure to the center of Tahiti
Oct 2020
Fun jeep tour through the middle of the island. The scenery is so different from the exterior of the island - just amazing. We were the only non-french speaking people in our group, and everyone was super-accommodating and friendly with the Americans! Be prepared for a full day adventure, with a very bumpy ride - but skillfully driven by the guide. We saw beautiful waterfalls, lakes, flowers and trees, and couldn't believe how high up we went into the mountains (but everything that goes up must also come down!) Bring sunscreen and bug spray (we didn't have any bugs but the potential is there for sure) and pack water and some snacks. They do stop for lunch, but you can also pack your own and eat it there. And if you are susceptible to motion sickness in cars, take some Dramamine beforehand! Camera is a must! Definitely a unique trip! Be prepared for an adventure! Thanks!

Amazing journey, just needs more background context
Feb 2020
This full day journey is indeed an adventure. The beauty of the interior of Tahiti is indescribable. Waterfalls, lakes, mountains and the incessant “green” are not to be missed. Nor do you want to skip the swim in a cool mountain lake. Be prepared for a true 4x4 ride climbing impossibly steep hills, fording streams and rivers and traversing narrow nail-biting paths all while sitting in the back of a pickup truck (albeit on padded benches). My only reason for not awarding five stars is that our guide did not provide a lot of historic context for some of the incredible scenery and sites we passed which is of great interest to me. However, he was a very safe driver and was very accommodating. Take this trip, you won’t regret it!

Pito Has Plenty of Personality
Feb 2020
Some things that you SHOULD bring and know about and on this tour are sunblock, a camera with an extra battery and SD Card and LOTS of Mosquito repellent. Those things are a must. I wouldnt recommend this tour for pregnant women, the elderly or for people suffering with leg and back problems. Now for the actual review. To start, I saw alot of beautiful sites on this tour. The scenery and waterfalls were so breathtakingly beautiful, but I have to admit that The MAIN hi-lite of this tour was the tour guide, Pito himself. He had plenty of personality. I was bitten by one of the eels down in the valley. I wasnt paying attention when I was trying to use my underwater camera to try and take videos and the eel crept up on me and thought my fingers were a snack. Pito used some anti-septic and some natural herbs from plants to stop the minor bleeding and infection. He has some GREAT driving skills. Navigating through Papeenoo Valley with a 4x4 full of tourists is no easy feat even though he makes it look easy when you are driving on narrow roads located on the cliff sides of mountains. Pito's personality is the Personification of playful and quirky side of Tahitian culture and I look forward to returning again and soon. He is also safety conscious. He took us to a river to swim but it was a little rough due to the recent rain that the valley had recently underwent. He must have felt something just as I was stripping down to take a dip with the rest of the group because he stopped us at the last minute and took us to a smaller spot that wasnt that rapid AND it also had a waterfall+brook (Photo below). The only downside is that I wish that he had a speaker so that we could have also listened to some of the tunes that he was playing in the front. I heard ALOT of songs from the Disney film, Moana (My favorite movie and soundtrack) being played in TAHITIAN. He even dropped us off at the Le Souffle restaurant in Papeete after the tour was over and after everyone was dropped off at their hotels. The Service and Pito's personality that he exhibited and provided goes above and beyond and deserves the praise and accolades that accompanies it. I am happy to say that I made a friend on this tour and I am most anxious to return with Pito being my tour guide in the future. Pito, You ROCK!!!.

Feb 2020
Eric was a great guide, and a great driver. Very friendly, knowledgeable and on time. The trip takes you through the centre of Tahiti, must have been around 100 km drive. 37 km of it on very fascinating roads, but also quite bad roads. The views are just awesome!

Breathtaking trip with lots of fun
Dec 2019
Compared to other Jeep safaris this organizer offers the advantage of one Jeep/ trip only. Marco and Pito are the perfect team to make this excursion enjoyable and a day to remember. By teaching fun as well as important facts about the nature of Tahiti time goes by very fast. Don‘t forget to bring your moscito spray and bathing suit. Enjoy a full day of great views and stunning nature.

Waterfalls, Flora, and Beautiful Views
Jan 2020
Visiting on a cruise ship, we had taken their provided excursion which took us to sights on the perimeter of the island. This tour provided us with a trip to the inner areas of the island. Our driver picked us up at the pier, we joined 4 other people in the jeep, and we were off to see the North Shore before venturing in the open-air jeep to the inner mountains and valleys. This is an off-road trip, so be prepared for a bumpy ride and bring insect repellant. We stopped numerous times throughout the day for views of waterfalls, mountain vistas, fruit plantations, quick swimming spots, and beautiful flora. The tour had a lunch break at a mountain-top restaurant (note - the cost of your unch is not included in the tour price) providing various menu options. The meal was very nice - We had an order of spring rolls, a shrimp/crab salad and soft drinks, and our bill was $50.00 USD. Our guide was proficient in English and was able to provide insightful commentary about each of the sites we visited.

Good views and interesting day
Jan 2020 • Solo
We were all picked up and dropped off at our hotels and then spent the day traveling over the middle of the island over the volcano and by the lakes. We stopped for lunch at a lovely restaurant bit slow but good views. Very bumpy ride as expected but great driving and the max in a group which we had was 8. Recommend the day as you see the middle of the Island and good views.

Fun day seeing inner Tahiti
My wife and I had had a great day and our driver Pito was a wealth of information, telling us all about the sites and stopped many times for us to take photos.

Views from the top of our drive were amazing. We felt safe with Pito's driving skills and whilst bumpy at times (specifically the start), there were only 2 sections at 20% incline/decline.

We didn't get a chance for a swim, but did get to see eels. The food at the lunch apart from taking your own.

It was worth seeing something different whilst visiting Tahiti.
