Overview

Immerse yourself in the natural splendor of Ria Formosa Natural Park on a 90-minute catamaran cruise to Deserta Island from Faro. While you listen to informative commentary from your guide, you’ll see fascinating flora and fauna and disembark at Deserta Island to stroll along the beautiful beach. Enjoy the flexibility of choosing your own departure time and opt to explore hiking trails and nature walks before you return to Faro by catamaran.

What to Expect
Hop aboard your catamaran at the tour time of your choosing, then cruise out onto the waters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. A protected area of coastal lagoons, islets and beaches, Ria Formosa is a haven for the Algarve’s native birdlife.

Cruise among the islands and lakes, and keep watch for sightings of diverse native bird species such as black-tailed godwit, black-winged stilt, flamingos, heron, plovers, purple swamp-hen, and wigeon. Along the way, listen as your guide sheds light on the birds’ migration routes and nesting habits.

Stop at the Ilha Deserta, where the white-sand beach stretches into the distance. Here, perhaps take a walk along the coastline or relax in the shade of a thatched umbrella as the waves lap at the shore.

When you’re ready to leave the Ilha Deserta behind, hop aboard the ferry for the return journey to your starting point to conclude your tour.

This was the best organised activity we did in Faro. Our guides, Fabio M. and his colleague Gonçalo, are both experts who studied marine biology and marine engineering respectively. So we got first hand information on all environmental and marine aspects of this habitat from...More
