More to explore in Faial Island
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- wendykT3432YT0 contributionsLeandro, the super Faial guide!Leandro, our tour guide, did a fabulous job of sharing the high points on Faial Island, beginning with the chapel above Horta. Leandro provided a comfortable level of conversation, explanation and local knowledge as we traveled in the comfort of a large van. His knowledge of local lore, history, and landscape were amazing! We loved the northern end of the island with the “new” mountain created in 1957– my birth year. Never thot I would stand at the feet of mountains the same age as me! Would highly recommend this half day tour and Leandro as a tour guide. He was a conscientious driver as well- the narrow roads can be terrifying but he was confident and capableWritten 29 November 2024
- DREGS0 contributionsThere is a lot to see and the views are wonderfulWe booked the day before so we’re pleasantly surprised when e we were the only guests. Our guide took us on around the island and across the centre explaining how volcanoes had formed the geography of the island over time. The map she gave us showed the main sites and she identified a number of plants as we went around. A coffee stop and a chance to enjoy local bread was welcome. Visiting the lighthouse and volcano exhibition is fascinating - on a full day tour you can stay for the needed 90 minutes there. If we had had more time we would have gone back and seem this and climbed to the top of the volcano. Our driver was very softly spoken so we found it difficult to hear her when we moving across rough roads such as cobbled areas. We did ask her to speak up but I’m sure we missed interesting information.Written 6 July 2023

Fillip was our tour guide and allowed me to sign up the day before. It was a lovely wander around Pico. We got to see three quarters of the island. The views, black stoned vineyards and beautiful vistas were exquisite. I can't say enough good about it. Two people on this tour spoke Portuguese and I'm from the US so he did this tour in both languages! Thank you!!

In general would recommend this tour with one caveat.
Our guide in Pico, Evelina, was informative and enthusiastic about Pico.
The lunch that was included was tasty and the restaurant had a lovely view.
We were picked up at the apartment we had rented in Horta and they took us to and from the ferry. They had arranged for our tickets to the ferry.
We got see the outer edge of half of Pico island and then cut across the middle. Lots of short stops.
Caveat: Plan to call the operator if you're staying somewhere other than the hotels they list because they didn't respond to my emails asking that they confirm that they could pick us up at the private apartment we were staying at.

We only had a day to spend in Pico so we booked this trip. Evelina was a fantastic guide - a source of interesting information about the island and its culture and history and vey friendly. She drove us and another couple around to all the highlights giving us plenty of time to look around, take pics and ask questions. The trip included the ferry ride, lots of beautiful stops and a nice lunch with a wonderful view.

The pick up at our hotel worked well. The driver was waiting for us on the other side. Pico is an interesting island. We had a look at vineyards protected by black lava rocks, whaling history and beautiful scenery.
There is , however, no reason to pay for this trip. It’s much better, in my opinion to rent a car and go yourself. The guide added little value.

We did 2 tours through Aerohorta. One was the day trip to Pico from Horta which we scheduled super last minute (morning of) but they were kindly able to accommodate us. It was a lovely tour and great to see Pico and how different it is from Faial! We enjoyed the day tour. This also includes a whaling museum which I didn’t enjoy but I understand it is part if the Azorean culture.
We also booked a full day tour of Faial and really enjoyed driving around the little island, going up to Caldeira, and visiting the volcano museum. Our tour guide was Vitor and he was super great and we really enjoyed talking with him and learning more about Faial and the Azores.
Definitely recommend Aerohorta!! It’s tour prices are much more reasonable than some of the other tours I found on TA. We discovered Aerohorta from our hotel reception desk. Thank you Aerohorta for the great tours!!
