We had José as a guide for the half-day tour who was excellent. He knows the Azores incredibly well, took care to ensure that we went at the right pace for our family of four and was expert at handing the jeep to get us to places that may otherwise have been difficult to reach! To top it off José helped us get a place at, and dropped us off at, a great restaurant. The scenery itself was stunning. Very much recommended and our thanks to José.

This was one of our best days. Our driver was an excellent guide and host, who did everything possible to show us the best of the island in comfort. His obvious enthusiasm was evident throughout the day. I would highly recommend booking this tour.

My wife and I spent 3 days touring with Jose. We told him we wanted to see as much of the island as possible and we wanted opportunities to do some hiking. We were also willing to be flexible to let him set the route each day. Jose was wealth of information about geology and the flowers and birds of the island, and he was adaptable to our interests. He has a great sense of humor and an obvious love of the island and a love of nature. All of this added up to an exceptional three days of unforgettable experiences. We booked this tour as a family (all adults) for our last day on the island. Our guide José was the perfect guide. He picked us up on time, and he proceeded to explain about the history of the island. He was extremely knowledgeable about all topics from history to the geology of the land to the plants around the island. We loved the day, the views were amazing, and José was an exemplary guide. We would definitely go on other trips with him if we ever come again to Sao Miguel.

This four-hour tour of São Miguel was a fantastic experience. The tour guide, José Santos, was exceptional and made the trip memorable. He had passion for the island and extensive knowledge about it, and it was clear he genuinely enjoyed sharing the beauty and history of the island with me. The tour covered a wide range of sights, and I also learned a lot of history. José took the time to answer all my questions and also recommended some hidden gems.

Jose was a phenomenal tour guide! We learned so much about the islands and their history, the plant and animal life, and general culture of the Azores. The views were stunning, and as a licensed tour guide, Jose had access where others didn’t. It was so nice being on a private tour where we could take our time, and Jose really listened and catered to our interests. If you have a day on Sao Miguel, we would highly recommend this tour! It is a long day, but the experience of a lifetime!

Jose Santos gave us a thoroughly informative tour. He is a proud native and highly knowledgeable of everything on the island! On his tour, we saw quint towns, beautiful beaches, areas with geothermal activity, and memorable sites along the way to Fogo Volcano, and of course, the beautiful view of the volcanic lake. Since we like to linger and savor the experience, we went way over the 1/2 day tour time, and Jose stayed with us, enjoyed a meal together like family, talked about family, and didn't charge a cent extra. Jose was great. He was informed, patient, explained everything well. Pace was neither hurried or slow. Weather did not fully cooperate, but Jose did the best he could with identifying alternate photo ops.

Jose is a driving bundle of knowledge, constant offload of knowledge from geography, history and impacting politics. And ask in English. A gorgeous route with so many impressive routes that most should avoid, amazing photo moments and the perfect way to spend a long morning (finished 13:30). HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This was an all day tour (7 hours). We joined two other couples as Jose took us all around the island including the craters as well as the upper ridges of the volcanoes. Jose stopped at prime locations for pictures and conversation. We enjoyed lunch which he arranged at a local restaurant. MOST impressive was Jose's knowledge. He was a combination of historian, botanist, and geologist! A FOUNTAIN of information!

We had a great tour with Jose. Even though it was very foggy and we didnt get to see the views from the top of the crater, Jose took us to other places on the island that had great views. He was very informative about all sorts of topics from plants to wildlife to history, etc. The price was very reasonable and we felt we got our value. We would recommend Carpe Diem tours if you are visiting Sao Miguel.

We had great weather and an amazing guide. I’ve never seen so much natural beauty. Our guide Jose was born and raised in the island and is extremely knowledgeable of the nature and history. It was a perfect day. I’ve never taken so many pictures, by the end of the day my wife and I were exhausted from nature overload, and I mean that in the best sense. You can’t count on the weather, but with a little luck you will be amazed!
