What to expect
Make your way to a central location in Lisbon, and then set out on foot through the city. Start with a round of petiscos (Portuguese tapas) at a local restaurant, and then duck into the 18th-century Café Nicola for a taste of café culture and a trademark sweet. Nibble a Portuguese codfish cake alongside some vinho verde, a refreshing green wine. Next, head to a Bairro Alto wine bar for tapas and a glass of local white wine. Stop by a seafood restaurant and discover a trove of sausages, salted fish, ham, and cheese inside a gourmet shop. Sip some Portuguese cherry brandy paired with São Jorge cheese at a nearby bar, and then sample ginjinha (liqueur from a historic watering hole). The last stop of the tour is a 17th-century palace, where you’ll try chouriço (sausage), bread, and other local products with a final glass of red wine.

So much fun!
This tour was amazing. We learned so much about the food, drinks and also about Lisbon and all of Portugal. Our tour guide was so much fun. She answered all of our questions about how to get around and Portuguese customs and language. The food and drinks were delicious. We would highly recommend.

Wonderful and learned so much about the food, wine and culture of Portugal.
I had a wonderful time. Our guide was so knowledgeable and a great lively personality. It was so interesting to visit local places that only locals would know about.

Fun, informative, and great eats!
Aug 2021
My friend and I went on a Saturday afternoon tour with Joana, and it was lovely. She talked about the history of Lisbon and food in Portugal, and had a good balance of history, culture, food, and interesting/fun information. It was nice starting with the pork sandwich first because it kept you satiated for the initial walking. The walk to the last stop in the Alfama was a bit long relative to the other stops, but it was definitely worth going to the community center! Overall, the entire tour was great and definitely worth the money. Highly recommend!

Sampling Lisbon
We had a fantastic time tasting our way around Lisbon with our upbeat and informative guide, Beatriz. Every stop was worthwhile (won’t share them all in detail but one is pretty filling/stodgy and the rest are mostly nibbles and sips). You may need to get dinner afterwards, but the point of the tour is only to discover Lisbon’s food/drink highlights while taking in some of the city’s beautiful neighborhoods. The best stop is the last (in alfama) as we had a surprise guest. Highly recommend Beatriz and this tour!

Great food, great wine, great guide. Do this walking tour!
Joana led our group of 8 on a fun filled eating and drinking adventure of Lisbon. 4 couples (2 US, 1 Scottish, 1 Irish) drank and ate and laughed through neighborhoods in the south of Lisbon. Joana set the tone with her vast store of knowledge, easy humor, enthusiasm and friendliness. We visited historical taverns and markets, learned about salted cod, tasted cod cakes (though we learned that cod is not found in the waters off Portugal), ate cheeses, "Romeo and Juliets", and chorizio grilled at out picnic table. We sipped sour cherry brandy, green wine and port. Everything was authentic and delicious. Our last stop was at the Casa do Alentejo in Alfama. We were welcomed like old friends, feted like guests and even presented with a rescued puppy to play with. We had a great guide, cheerful hosts, a fun filled group all fueled by terrific food and lots of wine and laughter. What was not to love? Did I mention that Joana was the BEST??? I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon.

An extremely satisfying afternoon!
This was a wonderful tour! Our guide, Joana, was amazingly friendly, informative, and just generally fun to be with. :-) The food itself was delicious and plentiful, as was the drink -- and we felt we really understood the significance and provenance of each item (as much as an outsider can!) I would definitely recommend both the tour and the guide without hesitation.

Nibble, Imbibe, Enjoy
I lucked out in a major way with my guide Joanna who, just after the country started opening up to British tourists, gave me what turned out to be a solo tour. She is local Portuguese but spoke perfect English fluently, was highly knowledgeable about the food and drink of the region and happened also to be heaps of fun. At various local holes-in-the-wall we drank Vinho Verde (which I’ll be seeking out as soon as I get back to London), ginjinha, some classy red wine, lager and port, and ate various local cheeses, charcuterie and more snacks which (half) soaked up the alcohol, all while learning about their provenance and history. (Btw don’t expect to be fed an evening meal, it’s modest bites to compliment the booze). There’s not much walking, mostly imbibing, so if you have important business, make sure you get it done before the tour!
