What to expect
  • Meet your small group in Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque at either 10 am or 3 pm, and get ready for your Belém adventure. Follow your guide through Lisbon as he or she gives you insight into the history of the area, including its role in the 15th and 16th centuries and the Age of Enlightenment, when the Portuguese were some of the most instrumental explorers in the world. You'll stop at the Jerónimos Monastery — the first UNESCO World Heritage-listed site of your trip — and the Discoveries Monument that celebrates Portugal's explorers and seafarers.  Make sure to bring some extra money with you because the tour stops at Pastéis de Belém, a local pastry shop that’s more than 100 years old. Pick out Portuguese baked goods you can enjoy at the moment or take back to your hotel. Your tour ends at Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed monument built in the 16th century.

You will get a great overview of BELEM, its past, history, what is today and recommendations for a deeper dive into the area.
Our guide Rui has studied political science and also major in economics can explain many phenomena and developments in the history of Portugal from various perspectives.
I strongly recommend to book him, even for a private tour

Really enjoyed my trip around beautiful Belém with my guide Andriy.
Andriy was knowledgeable and seemed passionate about sharing that knowledge during the tour. He seemed to have a deep understanding of the historical events that shaped Lisbon, Portugal and indeed the world. I would recommend this tour and Andriy to anyone wishing to explore Belém. This guide and company will take good care of you. Thanks again Andriy!

This was the last tour in our five-day Lisbon adventure and Andriy did not disappoint! While Andriy is not native Portugueuse, he grew up in Lisbon and, perhaps because of this, knew a LOT about Lisbon and the sites he took us to. He started the tour by asking what we've already done and seen; this helped him tailor his talks. I would highly recommend this tour and Andriy specifically!

First, all of the sights listed in this tour were 100% worth going to. The intricate detail of the architecture, the stories behind everything, and the famous pastry alone were absolutely worth going on this tour to see! Additionally, I was over the moon impressed with our guide Rui. Not only did he explain and carefully point out details the common tour guide would have missed, but he answered every single question we had and was our protector in a very pick-pocked area, Belem. Towards the end of the tour, he interrupted himself and told us there were 3 pick-pockets he recognized from his years of doing tours in the area. He warned us to be careful, steered us away from them, and always kept an eye on them to make sure that none of us became victims. If that wasn't enough, one of the three people he pointed out went to try and pick-pocket an elder woman and he stopped the theft. Not only was this just the most wonderful tour, but I felt completely safe and protected as well. Thank you Rui and anyone who thinking about visiting Belem, take this tour!

Dear awhodalla, I would like to thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the time you spent touring in Belém with me. I am happy that you enjoyed the tour and that you considered yourself safe in our company. Unfortunately Lisboa has attracted many pickpockets, it is thus important to always be aware of your surroundings and mindful of your belongings. Thank you again for such a detailed comment. Warmest Regards, Rui Fernandes

Dear Sunfamilytrip, I would like to thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the Belém Small Group Tour. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your time with us and that you can recommend us to other travellers. 3 hours is indeed not enough to see all that Belém has to offer, however, we feel that travellers who join this tour have a good sense of the area and the importance of the sites to the country's history. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Warmest Regards, Rui Fernandes
