One of the highlights of our trip
We ate our way across Portugal, but our favorite meal was in Cristina's kitchen.
When we told other locals about the dinner we prepared, they were very impressed as it was classic comfort food you can't get in restaurants.
This was our third Traveling Spoon (first in Portugal), and as always we were treated like guests and not tourists. We wish we could travel more for more of these experiences.

Absolutely delicious and heartwarming experience
As always, our Traveling Spoon was the best part of our trip to Portugal! Paulo and his family were such a joy to spend time with, and the meal we made together was incredible. We got to know them personally and learn more about Portugal and its history. There were so many amazing courses that we could barely walk out afterwards. I’ve already made Susana’s cake recipe since returning to the States.
And on top of that, they have a cute dog... :)

Great food and wonderful host!
We received a Travelling Spoon voucher for a Christmas gift, and decided to use it when visiting Lisbon. Setting up the experience was very easy through the website, and lots of information about how to get there and what would be included was provided.
Cristina was warm and welcoming from the very start, and we had a wonderful evening with her, sharing stories about the places we had been and learning about Portuguese culture. The food was fantastic - I will definitely be making the dishes myself at home! And I really appreciated her making the extra effort to create vegetarian versions for me, and telling me how to adapt traditional dishes to make them meat-free.
I would heartily recommend Travelling Spoon and Cristina in particular!
TREATED LIKE FAMILY
Cristina was a wonderful hostess. It was delightful to share a meal and great conversation with a well traveled and educated women. She brought me to her kitchen and showed me all the ingedients she used in meal preparation. I loved watching her cook!
For this trip, I was traveling solo, so I especially enjoyed the ambience of a shared dinner experience. Her home is lovely and in a great safe neighborhood. If you're in Lisbon and looking for something extraordinary to do, I HEARTILY RECOMMEND DINNER WITH CRISTINA!!!
AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND A LOVELY MEAL!
I felt like I was part of a big family as soon as I was greeted by Paulo and Susanah. Upon entering the kitchen, I could already see how much food they had prepare for me and my partner. We finished cooking the cod cakes and pan-fried the fresh clams. Paulo, who knew a ton about wines - apparently, he used to work for a wine company, took us to his wine cellar and talked about what we would be drinking that day. We easily had a 5-course meal with multiple dishes in each course. The meal was GRAND. It was like having Thanksgiving before Thanksgiving. The whole family was magnificent and gregarious and so welcoming. You could talk to them forever. Susanah and Paulo knew my partner and I couldn't eat too much dairy, so instead of Susanah's famous rice pudding, she made us an apple tart instead, which was super thoughtful and sweet.
It seemed like we talked for hours at the dinner table and was joined by Paulo and Susanah's son as well. Topics like football, food, the Spanish (haha), the history of Portugal, travel -- really anything you would talk about with your family, you could do here. It was really that kind of "European" eat, drink and laugh atmosphere that you imagine. These experiences are so memorable for me and I really thank my hosts for such a wonderful and delicious experience.
