About
Discover the wonders of Lisbon’s atmospheric Alfama neighborhood during a 2.5-hour walking tour. Walk around the tight cobbled lanes of this old hilly district, whose streets, squares and town houses have stood for centuries. See intricately tiled houses and hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and walk past notable landmarks including St George’s Castle (Castelo de Sao Jorge), Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa) and the National Pantheon. Admire views from the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte viewpoint, where vistas stretch out across Lisbon and the Tagus River, and learn about Fado music from your expert guide.

Very interesting and a good way to learn more about the culture of Lisbon and about the Alfama district in particular. I definitely recommend a tour if you're planning to visit Alfama since it's very lucky you could get lost on your own. Best parts were hearing about the locals and the history as it relates to the earthquake. Definitely worth the nominal cost!

Starting with the meeting place, it was extremely easy to find and very straight forward. After the check in I was placed with my guide Antonio, who was FABULOUS. I (24) was with my mother (57) for this tour and it was well paced, very informative and definitely did not feel like we walked for the entire 2.5 hours. Antonio himself was extremely thoughtful, made sure to learn everyones name in the group and ask more about us, answered any and all questions, and was very real about the history of Portugal, giving us the good and the bad. He was extremely entertaining and gave us aspects of Portugal not in the description listed online. For example, the cherry liquor that Portugal is known for, the name escapes me, he believes is best from locals in Alfama, so instead of taking us to a store for us to try it, he brought us to a window of a local to try the local, "illegal" homemade version. Equivalent to an experience like homemade Moonshine in the states. It was amazing to say the least. Additionally, at the end he accompanied us to a local owned business that had green wine. The business had been passed down from the owners family for 3+ generations. There we had a cup of wine together as a group and Antonio even bought all of us a sandwich, native of Portugal with a special mustard (the name is escaping me again), and split it 9 ways between all of us in the group. Again, Antonio is THE BEST and super thoughtful, wanting only the best for those in his tour. Throughout the tour he explained how Alfama is very family oriented, I felt as though my fellow tour group and guide were a family as well. Thank you Antonio! I loved this tour and highly, highly recommend for everyone!

Rita was such a great guide, knowledgable, entertaining and full of enthusiasm for this fascinating area of Lisbon. She brought the whole area to life, introducing us to locals, explaining the quirks and architectural surprises with such enthusiasm.
Highly recommended.

I did the walking tour with Antonio, the civil engineer & exceptional guide!

Antonio has a deep passion & knowledge for his city & gave us excellent insights of the city. I highly recommend to anyone looking to get a better feel for the city. He gave numerous recommendations & “to-do’s” in this exciting city.

I was most impressed with Antonio’s attention to detail; he made a large group small, talking to each individual on a first name basis. Excellent!

Antonio will not disappoint! I am recommending to all my friends visiting Lisbon.

This guide Ricardo Dias was awesome. I was initially disappointed by the substitution of Ricardo for Jorge as it seemed classic bait and switch technique because Jorge had done a good free tour of downtown and uptown Lisbon. He also said that he would be leading the paid tour of Alfama.

Ricardo did an outstanding job and almost immediately made me happy that he not Jorge would be leading the tour.

Ricardo's obvious love for the city and his encyclopaedic knowledge of the places and characters in Alfama made this a truly enjoyable experience. We got to meet some of the people that populate his world, neighbours, friends etc. of which he has many. They were all lovely people and you could easily see their love for him.

He further provided us with his recommendations and this also led to perhaps our peak moment in Lisbon at his recommended Fado venue. If you plan to do a walking tour in Lisbon, I can not stress enough how much more rewarding an experience this will be if you choose Ricardo Dias.

Three of us did the Alfama walking tour with Rita Jardim, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rita is an outstanding guide, who brings tremendous passion to her descriptions of the sights and people of Alfama. I have done guided tours in many cities across Europe, and I would rank Rita with the best.

Antonio was such a great guide that after the free tour, we decided to do the Alfama tour with him the day after. Both experiences are great.
Antonio is very professional, has a wide knowledge of the history and the culture of his town.
The walk were very pleasant, thanks to the stories Antonio told us and to his sense of humour.
He succeeded in transmitting us his love for Lisbon. So, we will come back again very soon!

We read about this tour on our Lonely Planet and we Made the best decision ever joining it. We got lucky enough to have Antonio as a guide to passionately show some of the must-see places and tell us about the history of the beautiful Lisbon. He thoughtfully left us a smart map with all his recommended spots of the city. We highly recommend the Sandemans Lisbon tour and the amazing Antonio as a guide!

I did this walking tour yesterday with Antônio, and my group was very diverse but he kept everyone’s attention all the time. As we walk through the streets of the Beautiful neighborhood of Alfama, Antonio showed us he really knows a lot about history and about the people of Lisbon. It was amazing to getting to know the art and beautiful sights of Alfama with a local.
