About
Enjoy a private and authentic cooking class in a local home with your host Paula. This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. Your cooking class will take place in a local home kitchen where Paula will teach you 2-3 traditional Portuguese-influenced Goan dishes from her family recipes. After cooking, you will enjoy your meal together in Paula's home. Please note, for parties larger than two guests, you will start your experience in Paula’s home with a welcome drink and snacks, and then walk across the street to Paula’s cooking studio (located just across the street from Paula's apartment) to cook and eat there. • Cooking lesson in a local home • Introduction to Portuguese and Portuguese-influenced Goan dishes • 100% private activity • Portuguese hospitality in a residential Almada neighborhood (short 7-minute ferry ride from downtown Lisbon) • Vegetarian options available

What to expect
  • This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Your experience will take place in Almada, just a short 7-minute ferry ride from downtown Lisbon. Paula will meet you at the ferry stop in Cacilhas and take you on a lovely 10-minute walk through the center of town to her apartment, located just a few meters from the neighborhood’s main covered market. Start your meal with a welcome drink of some Portuguese wines and appetizers. Then head to Paula's home kitchen where you will learn to make 2-3 Portuguese and Portuguese-Goan dishes. You will learn to make two appetizers side-by-side such as pataniscas de bacalhau, traditional Portuguese cod fritters, and Goan bojas, gram flour fritters made with onion and cumin seeds. Then go on to make a main dish, where you can select between a Portuguese or Goan main dish, such as bacalhau a braz, a traditional Portuguese dish of cod with shredded potatoes and egg, or a Goan curry. After cooking, sit down together at Paula’s dining table or in her cooking studio table across the street. End your meal with a sweet dessert and coffee or tea.

Great experience
This was a wonderful experience! We made arroz con mariscos and an orange swiss cake roll, both of which were delicious. Paula is a great teacher and she took the time to show us around the city afterwards on a little tour which was magical. Highly recommend.

Cooking class
Mar 2020 • Couples
Paula’s cooking class is an amazing experience.
She’s friendly, warm and knowledgable.

The cooking class was well planned and really hands on! She talked us through the whole process and the food turned out delicious!

Everything was 1st class, from being picked up from the ferry to the hospitality received in her studio and even walked us through Almada, sharing stories and pointing out landmarks.

Would do it all over again.

Great Cooking Experience and Meal!
Feb 2020
Paula hosted my family in her kitchen for a wonderful cooking experience and meal. We learned a lot about the Portuguese culture and foods. Paula was welcoming, friendly, generous and even made my dad a special lemon cake for his birthday. Thanks for a fantastic experience!

A Sure Holiday Highlight
Dec 2019
We (three friends) loved the concept of Traveling Spoon and our experience with Paulinha was even better than we could anticipate. She met us near the ferry and took us on a scenic walk to her culinary shop, explaining the history of her town and Lisbon and sharing her story with us. When you walk with Paulinha through her neighborhood, you quickly recognize that she is known, liked and respected. After arriving at her shop (too cute), she provided us some options for appetizers and wine then we set about preparing a mix of Portuguese and Goan dishes with her. She explained everything in a way that left us feeling as if we could prepare each item afterwards in our own homes. The results were delicious and, combined with the local wines and great conversation, this was our top holiday experience among the many others we had in Lisbon. I would definitely book this experience again and highly recommend it to others!
