        The best land scape.
We had a very good time in Calheta beach resort, the cleanness and service was all professionally done, I would recommend this place to every one, who wants to enjoy a relaxing time on vacation.

        Paradise up close
What a spectacular way to enjoy the Island. Any review must begin with the tour guide and Edgar S. Was a fantastic host. His knowledge of the island was very strong and his interaction was perfectly tuned to our needs and desires. His knowledge of the various plants and crops was top notch. We toured the west end of the Island leaving Funchal and traveling along the coast and then up over the island to the Northwest town of Porto Muniz. Along the way we stopped at several almost indescribably beautiful spots. His 4x4 vehicle was both comfortable and safe on all of the variety of roads we traversed. Edgar was able to get us to spots less available to tourists traveling alone and we didn’t have to worry about driving or parking which made a big difference in our enjoyment. I am sure there are other options and perhaps other equally competent guides, but we could not have had a fuller and richer experience of this magical island paradise.

        Stunning Scenery
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the east. The mini bus was comfortable. The driver was very knowledgeable and provided commentary throughout the tour. Great itinerary and good amount of time spent at each stop. Stunning scenery. Great way to spend the day.

Nice short walk. A lot of botanic details from the guide. Good impression. Independent of weather conditions. One way walk.

An excellent guide that found us a fantastic alternative
Charlotte was our excellent guide for the day. Unfortunately the weather was too bad to go ahead with the walk, but instead she found us a "Plan B" We went to the North East Side of the island instead, where she could see that on the webcam the weather was much better. This was an excellent alternative and took us to a part of the island that we hadn't seen. Thanks to Charlotte and our excellent driver (Paul?), we had an amazing day. In addition, Charlotte rang the office and booked us onto a similar walk on a different day, so we don't feel like we missed out. A great company!

        Eastern Madeira fantastic.
Nuno took us on a fantastic tour of Eastern Madeira. He was polite, engaging, and funny. When we went to the highest point in Madeira, the weather and visibility were horrible. He gave us a choice of getting out or going to different stop, which turned into 2 different stops. Being able to adapt to a situation and making it fun is what it's all about. Nuno delivered a fantastic day.

        First time levada walk
I wanted to try a levada walk but was not sure what to expect. The people at Lido Tours were most helpful and suggested the half day Raferta walk. Pick up was on time and we were soon at the start point. The guide was so knowledgeable and shared fascinating information about flora and fauna at every stage, in English and French. It was a beautiful walk and it passed too quickly. It’s not too challenging physically but wear good shoes. Highly recommended

        Excellent tour of western Madeira
The whole trip was first class and exactly as advertised. A full program with great commentary by Nino our guide and driver. Highlights for us were the 500m glass platform at Cabo Girão and the dramatic waves breaking at Porto Minoz. We saw how the north of the island contrasts with the south and came away with a better understanding of life on the island. A very good day out.

        Perfect Group Hike
Very well organized and Charlotte was a dream as a host! She gave us detailed explanations of everything and made sure everyone was okay at all times. This is perfect if you want to walk in a group. The drivers were also really good.

        Very enjoyable afternoon tour
An excellently organised half day tour to the Valley of the Nuns. Book online and they will contact you and arrange a pick-up from near your hotel; ours was from the bus station/taxi rank next to the cable car terminus. The minibus arrived dead on time, and we were taken to the viewpoint overlooking Curral das Freiras at an elevation of about 1090m. You have to walk the last bit to get the best views of the surrounding mountains and the village looking tiny below you. There was an incredible drop in temperature from sea level, so take something warm. Then we were taken back down to the village itself where there is a small museum and a cafe with time for coffee and cake, and loos. Then down to the fishing village of Camara des Lobos and again time for a wander down to the harbour before being taken back to the pick up point. There was just about the right amount of time at each location and we were driven very smoothly and safely by Roberto on the steep and tortuous mountain roads whilst at the same time he gave an excellent commentary in both English and German. Highly recommend Lido Tours - my only criticism would be the type of vehicle used, for a tall person like me the seating was very cramped and I’m not sure I could do a full day tour in such a small bus.

Booked on Monday evening for the Wednesday full day hike across the Madeira peaks at the Lido tours office.

They failed to tell us that that you couldn't walk between the 1st and 3rd mountains due to storm damage the previous weekend which is fair enough.

But to not tell us upfront and take our money felt wrong.

At least we could have made an informed decision whether to still go ahead with booking it.

We only found out this information as we were picked up and told by the guide that it would be a much shorter hike.

This does leave you feeling deceived and short changed paying full price for half the service

We couldn't have asked for a better day. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and went at a steady pace so we could have a good hike but also have time to take in the views. We were very lucky with the weather so we were able to see the spectacular views all day. The route is challenging enough for a regular hiker (myself being 36), but was a bit too much for my mum (67 whose active but prefers flatter routes). It was around 20 degrees and sunny but very windy/chilly in places so take plenty of layers and a hat/gloves.
One of my favorite experiences so far!

This one is a hit or miss. We left sunny Funchal only to arrive at cold, misty and windy mountain area. Guide Charlotte was very professional, we made a group decision to take the hike anyway, she made sure we have proper clothing to continue. People were able to turn around and leave with the driver after like 15mins of “test hike”, however all of us continued. After sometime clouds broke out, so we were able to admire the views, it’s no joke that weather changes there instantly! Definitely be prepared. This hike is physically challenging, I am moderately fit millennial and few places left me out of breath, it’s also heavy on the knees as it’s mostly stairs.
I took 3 hikes with Lido tours and was very happy each time. Professional service, felt very safe with them as solo female traveler.

This hike is a challenge but great fun and Zara was a fantastic guide who lets you take things at your own speed whilst ensuring you make it safely to the end.

She makes some tough sections more fun than they would otherwise be and her knowledge of the hike is second to none.

The hike as a whole is one of stunning view points and the whole way through there is always something to take your attention. It is like walking through a set of postcards. I would highly recommend this hike for those who want to do more than a gentle stroll and the photos are amazing.

Probably the most beautiful walk of Madeira. We did several walks with Lido and their excellent walking guide Sarah, and enjoyed it very much. I was impressed how serious Sarah took her role as guide and how responsible she felt for the group.

We had an amazing time doing this hike from Pico Do Areiro to Pico Ruivo. As this was listed as one of the more difficult excursions available on the island we were a bit nervous starting off, but Charlotte our guide was amazing. She made everyone feel welcome and kept us all in good spirits on the way, with plenty of breaks, stops to share some knowledge about the area and she was there to support anyone struggling at any point.

If you struggle with heights there are definitely some scary moments but I found this added to the the excitement overall. I don't particularly like heights but it wasn't really too bad apart from one or two points. The stairs to start the ascent up Pico Ruivo are steep and definitely tiring, but Charlotte kept us at a nice relaxed pace and encouraged us to take our time so it wasn't too bad. We did get lucky and have very nice weather, I can imagine it would be more difficult if the weather was bad. I'd say as long as you have a basic level of fitness and no big problems with your knees or back you will be able to complete this walk no problem. The views are amazing from the start, but once you get close to the top of Pico Ruivo you will see some of the most incredible sights imaginable, weather dependant of course. I would recommend people travel to Madeira just to do this walk, it was incredible, big thanks to Charlotte and Lido Tours.

      Fantastic experience
Our guide and driver were very helpful to everybody who can have limitations ...they pay attention to health problem and give good advises to tourist ( my husband) who can over rate capacities. So you need good cardiovascular conditions, good mobility ( the path are very good but can be slippy if wet, metal rope most of the time between both peaks, tunnel without light so bring a frontal lamp or phone). Dress yourself for all conditions ( wind-cold-cloud-sunshine) so you will be ready for each side of the peaks. The most important thing : you should wear walking boots for good grip, stability et stay dry all the day long. Now enjoy the view as my two sons ( 17 and 21 years old) and I (63 y) did.

This was by far the best excursion we did whilst we visited Madeira. The views were breathtaking!!! The walk itself was a little taxing in places especially the metal steps but it was worth a little sweat to see the surrounding scenery. Our Guide Charlotte was friendly and informative and you really could tell she loved her job pointing out flowers, rock formations and points of interest along the way. Nuno the driver was on time and his skillful driving was a must with traversing windy mountain roads. Overall 10/10 day if I could rate it higher I would.

Book it you won't be disappointed!!!

Booked this guided experience as a first time in Madeira. One of the most challenging physical experiences of our lives (we are no regular hikers) but I would undoubtedly repeat this. It was purely fantastic, end to end. Our guide was fantastic, friendly and responsible, and the views you are rewarded from the top can’t be matched. Despite the appropriate equipment and reasonable fitness level (no health issues either), I found myself struggling at times as I’m not good at this kind of heights. But the point is to not give up even at the sight of scary abysses and keep moving, staying close to your guide and the group. I felt supported all the way through. This is the next level for those who fall into the same category as me i.e. nowhere near regular mountain hikers. I do miss this experience though and I wish to repeat it in a near future!

Lido Tours seems a wel organized company. The booking proces is easy and they respond to your emails. All the guides are very nice and professional. This very popular and more demanding walk was done with 21-22 people and just the one guide. Even in September 2021, still in the pandemic, this hard walk was overcrowded since all the (many) tour companies keep to the same schedule (more or less 9 till 5). For these walk I would advice to find a smaller company or guide who can avoid these times and can take you early or later in the day.
