    AMAZING... Would HIGHLY recommend!
This was a birthday gift from family and totally exceeded our expectations! Market tour, fruit tasting (private), followed by an AMAZING live cooking experience at the restaurant in Madeira. Chef/staff at the restaurant were just SO professional, friendly and have such a passion for the food they prepare and we learned SO MUCH. Our tour guide was SO informative and we just couldn't recommend this more..FABULOUS!

Market tour and delicious meal experience
Absolutely fantastic! Our small group first explored the market, where we had the opportunity to learn about some of the cultural aspects of the groups sharing this space. We then had a fruit tasting, where we learned about some of the fruits that are unique or uniquely adapted to Madeira. Finally, we went to a nearby restaurant where the chef prepared four amazing dishes for us. He was a joy to watch, and everything was delicious. This tour exceeded my expectations, and was a wonderful and unique way to spend an afternoon in Funchal.

    Churchill tour
We had a great afternoon on our Sir Winston Churchill cultural tour. Our guides collected us in a vintage VW beetle from our hotel and we began by visiting the boat on which Winston Churchill had first disembarked from on his arrival into Madeira in January 1950. We then had a very pleasant open top drive, passing Reids Hotel, where Sir Winston and Lady Clementine stayed, then passing along the coast to the village of Câmara de Lobos, where the great man famously spent several afternoons painting the village panorama from a terrace overlooking the village. We then walked down into the village and were served a very pleasant glass of Madeira (his favourite tipple on the island) in a restaurant that was dedicated to his memory, including many interesting photographs of his time there, as well as other famous snaps from his illustrious career. Our guide Ana was extremely well informed, friendly and anxious to make our afternoon as pleasant as possible. Miguel, our driver, also was superb. We would highly recommend this tour.

Cider your ticks all the boxes Amazing fantastic wow !!!
Wow amazing had a brilliant experience on this new tour Ana our guide has a wealth of knowledge on everything Madeiran ! The Levada walk was fantastic and we were able to see lots of plants fauna birds etc After the walk we went down the hill for cider tasting and then lunch. The owner of the business talked us through various different ciders and we sampled probably 6 types My favourite was the champagne type but they were all good Only the best apples are used in the production here! We finished with lunch which was fabulous with a charcuterie board tuna broad beans and sausage in a delicious sauce What an experience in such pleasant surroundings

    Highly recommended tour
I booked a guided tour for the first time and was so pleasantly surprised! A great tour with visits to local cheese producers. I got a lovely insight into the lives of the locals on Madeira and was rewarded with a great tour guide and lovely travellers. Thank you Madeira Exquisite Food on Foot Tours for the experience. I can definitely recommend it!

Great morning if you like food!
An excellent morning, started with a tour of the farmer's market in Funchal. Looking at the fruit and veg on sale, some unfamiliar items amongst them! After a fruit tasting in the market we moved on to a town centre restaurant. We sat at chef's table and watched as our spectacular lunch was prepared. Lunch was focused on Madeira produce with some very unusual and delicious twists. Throughly recommend this tour if you like food!

Amazing food and interesting history of Madeira
We had an awesome half day with Ana. She showed us around the Funchal market (Mercado lavradores) and told us all about the food, flowers and the history of Madeira and Funchal. Afterwards we went to the Three Houses restaurant and had an absolutely delicious meal prepared by chef Mauricio and his team. Would totally recommend this to anyone visiting Madeira - amazing experience.

    Home cooked Madiera dinner
Dinner at a local home was a fantastic experience. Our host prepared a wonderful 3 course Madeira local type dinner something you are not going to find eating at a restaurant. We were a group of 4 from Alabama and we meet a delightful couple from Scotland. Good food, wine, and conversation added up to a wonderful evening.

    Excellent food choices.
I thought the food tour was great with the choices of where to eat and the types of food we sampled. We had a fish and meat meal with wine, tea and cake, Portuguese bread with pork, poncha, Madeira wine and chocolates, and cheese and wine. The tour guide knew a lot of history to share as we walked around, but was also a little opinionated and rude about some topics. I would recommend doing the food tour but this guide wasn’t my favourite.

    Great Day in Madeira, Portugal
HIGHLY RECOMMEND….Wine day Tour & Lunch in the vineyard was a perfect 10. Our guide Ana was very informative, pleasant and fun. She is very knowledgeable about plants and wine as well as her home Madeira. We sampled many wonderful wines at 3 different wineries. Espetada (grill meat on a skewer) potatoes, salad, bread and passion fruit dessert was served for lunch along with - you guessed it more great wine, finishing the meal off with some Madeira wine. It was a wonderful day…

Great way to experience some Madeira traditions
Excellent tour sharing insights from Madeira’s history as well as introducing some great places to try out the traditional food and drinks of the island. Ideal for both 1st time visitors or if you are frequent traveler to the island.

Terrific introduction to the amazing cuisine of Madeira and to Funchal.
Our family loved this tour from start to finish. From the tour of the market and the surrounding areas, to the tasting of local fruits to the amazing cooking demonstration, our guide was knowledgeable and interesting. She gave us a great deal of insight and tips for the rest of our stay in Madeira. The cooking demonstration was fantastic and the food delicious. This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip to Madeira.

We did this tour in the second day of being in Funchal. Would definitely recommend doing this early on as it is a great way to orientate yourself around the city, learn the history and get to eat and drink some great produce. Jacqueline is very knowledgeable, easy to converse with and was a joy to experience Funchal through her eyes. Definitely recommend this tour, left feeling very well fed and hydrated!

Would thoroughly recommend early into your stay in Funchal as an introduction to the food and culture of the city. We were not just shown restaurants and cafes off the main tourist areas, which locals enjoy, the tour included an abundance of food and drink experiences, making it excellent value too. We have since booked to return to restaurants which we would otherwise not have found. Tip you definitely do not breakfast before!

Ideally I would like to rate my experience as a 3.5 or good but as that isn’t an option I have gone for 4. We did enjoy the afternoon but it’s seriously expensive for the food you receive. There were 11 people in our group and a similar number in a second group that left at the same time. First stop was a restaurant where we had garlic bread, 1 glass of wine and a plate with 1 small piece of each of tuna, fish, steak, sweet potato and maize - certainly not a full main course (see photo) but excellent quality. Next a walk through the fish and farmers market and a taste of a few small pieces of different fruits. On to a chocolate shop for a small tasting of Madeira wine and 2 chocolates (which were lovely). A brief shop at the biscuit factory shop for a tasting of biscuits and cake. Then a tea shop for a choice of tea and a cake. Finally a glass of poncha. It was a pleasant afternoon, meeting with lovely people sharing the tour and chatting with the guide but I don’t believe it’s value for money and it didn’t really get off the tourist trail as I was expecting from the tour description.

This was an excellent tour which I would not hesitate to recommend. We were a group of 6 in total, and spent the afternoon visiting about 5 or 6 different venues, taking in restaurants, the market, tea house, poncha bar and a traditional biscuit shop. Jacqueline was the perfect guide, and provided many interesting cultural and historical facts as we went along. She was also very generous in giving tips and advice, on anything to do with Madeira, and for that reason I recommend going early on in your holiday. We followed one restaurant recommendation by visiting Kampo on our final night in Funchal, and were blown away by the experience. We will no doubt repeat the tour on future trips to this wonderful island.

What an amazing way to spend an afternoon and early evening.....!
Not only were my wife and I introduced to some of Madeira’s authentic cuisine but a wealth of history and culture. We we’re not only shown classic restaurant dishes but the ‘Art Deco Market’ with its fruit, veg and beautiful flowers. The trip then evolved into visits to taste artisan chocolates, classic traditional biscuits and uplifting home grown tea! To conclude Madeira’s famous ‘Poncha’......
Jacqueline our guide was everything you could wish for as a lovely, knowledgeable and charming host - a tremendous ambassador for Madeira!

Our tour guide was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable about Maderia, Funchal, the history of the city, the history of how certain food came to Maderia..We learned which plants originated in Maderia. She explained the highlights of the city landmarks. My husband and I could have listened to her beyond the tour. The restaurants catered to our group and made us feel so welcome. The food was presented professionally. Our guide thoroughly explained each selection at every stop.
We highly recommend this tour not only for the food but also for the history and culture of Maderia.

Having done several food tours we've found it a great way to see cities and get an introduction to a place. We decided on this one as it charged a little more than others, which ensured a smaller group and a more personal experience.

To start with the positives, the guide was lovely, very knowledgeable, and chatty. We were a mixed group of couples and solo travelers but at no stage was anybody left out. We found the fruit market and final bar of great quality.

The reason for the three star review, average, was due to the first restaurant on the tour. When we arrived there was another tour group there, it's clear this is popular for food groups. Having been on Maderia for 5 weeks prior to the tour, I'm confident saying that the food was of poor quality. The Bolo do caco had clearly been out a while (everyone left it), the meat was well done, and the scabbard okay.

The remaining stops on the tour were without fault, good to great. But the majority of the food was consumed at the first restaurant which is why it was so disappointing. Madeira has excellent food, we had bolo do caco, meats on hooks, scabbard with banana across the island which were excellent again and again. Here, it felt touristy and a cheap imitation of the real dishes.

My main advice would be to pick a new restaurant as the first stop. The rest of the tour was excellent and to the standard expected.

We took the tour with Teresa and were 14 people in total. Teresa was wonderful. She explained the history of Madeira to us in a very entertaining way and was always available for questions on the side. The places we went to try typical Madeiran food were not tourist stores, but rather places we were happy to visit a second time. I can recommend this tour and especially Teresa without reservation. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.

The tour, guided by Renke, was very insightful and personal. she really toom her time to explain everything we wanted to know and took her time recommending other sights/things to do on madeira.
The food and drink were exeptional - very well chosen, local and in most casey paired with wine from madeira.
we would do it all again!
thanks very much to Renke :)

Renke was our tour guide. She was able to give us lots of information about Madeira food, wine and culture. We did a tour with 4 others. We tasted wines, meat, fish, vegetables and bread at the first restaurant and then moved on to the market to try lots of different fruits, next onto chocolate shop and Madeira wine, then to taste cakes/cookies, then for tea and cake and finally poncho at a bar. The whole tour lasted around 4 hours. We did it on day 1 and that worked well as renke could answer all our tourist questions about buses, trips, things to do and see. The food on the tour was very filling .
