About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- retrog330 contributionsAvoid! They don’t keep their timetable!I was waiting at Cabo Giro for 40 minutes. The yellow bus didn’t turn up at 11.15 at schedule. It drove past around 11.32 without stopping. I had to wait for an another hour. It’s so disappointing that they don’t keep the timetable wasting precious time of passenger’s holiday. The website live schedule is broken. They never refund my money when i asked for a refund.Written 8 November 2024
- E7593ZWmonicah0 contributionsUseful for getting your bearings.Do this early on when you arrive on holiday. It's the best way to see where everything of interest is in Funchal. You will then have a good idea of the layout of the city and where the things are that you most want to see. Informative commentary in several languages via earphones which are provided and you can keep. The app is useful too as it has a realtime map of where your next bus is for when you hop on and off. All-in-all a good value trip.Written 15 October 2024
- 760jaynem0 contributionsPoorNot the best on-off bus tour we have been on. I usually enjoy a tour, helps us to orientate a new location, but this tour provided little information & the recorded info seemed to be out-of-synch with the location of the bus! Beautiful views were the best thing about the tour, but sadly disappointed with the rest of it.Written 27 September 2024
- karenjF9126MH0 contributionsVery good , annoying music on the commentary!Very good value over 1.5 hours, went very high for excellent views only annoying thing, terrible music on the commentary!Written 4 September 2024
- padreray0 contributionsFunchal at a GlanceWe booked the tour via our cruise ship and were met by the bus at the port. It did a round of Funchal before taking us to the highest point, and then the village of Camara de Lobos. The route has several curves, and from the accessible wheelchair space on the bottom deck views were not as good as I could not adjust my position for photos as readily as my wife could from the upper deck. Glare from the windows on the lower deck didn't disrupt the tour, but did impact photos. The stop at the high vantage point was shorter than I would have liked. The village was not much different from Funchal itself, but the drive past banana plantations and terraced hills, as well as the view of the coastline was pretty. The tour did include a coupon for a tasting at Blandy's Wine Shop, and we went to that stop after the full circuit. The route however is set up in such a way that a full second circuit is needed to get back to the cruise port, or you can do as we did and walk a couple hundred metres back to the ship from the Blandy's stop. The wheelchair ramp is manual and the tour operator will put it down on request.Written 27 August 2024
- psydiscord0 contributionsHelpful for explorationOn the website you can see where the bus is and the estimated arrival time of every station, very useful. Nice ride to do some city exploration.Written 12 August 2024
- Mobile350665552820 contributionsDrivers and staff are so helpfulGreat way to see some of the island and get a sense of its history and attractions - use the live tracking rather than a timetable Thomas they have been known to leave a stop early!!Written 7 August 2024
- LadyG710 contributionsVery goodAs this was our first visit to Madeira, we decided to do the HOHO bus tour to get out bearings. The live timetable did take a bit of working out, but each time we used the bus it was pretty much on time. We choose the 5 day ticket and definitely made good use of this. The bus was never overcrowded and driver was friendly. The info was as useful (although-minor point- the voice over was irritating- her intonation was all over the place!) Would I recommend the bus- yes, definitely.Written 3 August 2024
- Smithys8430 contributionsAvoid this company unless you are a masochistDreadful experience. No bus schedule so waited over an hour twice for the bus to arrive. No headphones offered on the first bus, asked for some on the second bus (after yet another hour's wait) found no jack point on the bus that worked just heard noisy interference on every channel so no tourist information at all and spent a large part of the day standing at bus stops for an hour at a time with no seating. Frankly angry at being charged €21 pp for this dreadful experience. Do not bother with this. We watched several red HOHO buses go past whilst we waited so they might be a better bet. Wish I had read more reviews before I bought our tickets as this is an ongoing issue which the company has obviously done nothing to rectify, treating customers and tourists with contempt.Written 15 June 2024
- CNSG40 contributionsGreat day out to see Funchal from above but needs more information on the headphonesVery good service that got us around the local area. Plenty of stops. Regular buses Could have ran later into the early evening to enable more time at stops and also to stop the last bus being so crammed Unfortunately I really wanted to hear more about the areas we travelled around. It’s all easily walkable and the whole point of taking a tour bus was to know about the area. What are in these fabulous buildings? How old are they? Tell me about The Ritz? The fire station how big an area does that cover - especially given your recent forest fires? The harbour area? The cruise ships etc etc. I could go but actually so could you…. More history, more knowledge less loud annoying music please.Written 28 April 2024
- milleniumzeus0 contributionsAwfulArriving at the ticket office at stop 2 in Funchal we were sold tickets for the bus and the cable car. The tickets for the cable car saved a fair bit of time as it saved us queuing twice. The information seemed clear and I always check the gap time between buses as we never stop to long between hopping off and hopping back on. We were told 30 minutes. We first stopped at the cable car then hopped back on and proceeded to Lobos. A second yellow bus which they refer to as a mini bus but is not a mini bus which was confusing at Lobos takes you up to the viewpoint and back. This bus came along, parked up and the bus driver dissapeared. We then went for a walk instead of hanging around waiting. At 2pm another yellow bus turned up (the one that goes round the city so we decided to go back at 2.30 giving 30 minutes as directed. In the meantime the mini bus driver reappeared and by now the bus stop was full with people waiting. The mini bus driver drove off with a handful of these people while the rest of us waited another 30 minutes for the next bus making it an hour between buses. It was a mess so we gave up and got a local bus instead. To be honest we might as well have just got local buses for what we saw as it certainly did not warrant all the hanging around waiting. Having visited many cities over the last few years and using very similar services I can honestly say this service was the worst by far. Information was unclear and untrue and the service was awful. Add to this having to change seats on the bus several times because the audio guide plugs were not working.Written 26 April 2024
- C3775WDandym0 contributionsFun and Funky way to explore Funchal, without the car parkingh difficulties.Given the parking congestion problems within Funchal and its neighbouring suburbs, the Funchal based Yellow Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours are a great way to see the city sights and to enjoy a trip to Camara de Lobos and Cape Girao without the hassle of spending hours trying to find a parking spot. We purchased a five day ticket, which we used extensively. We usually hire a car for all of our holidays, but the parking in Funchal is a nightmare, hence we not only enjoyed this fun and funky way of seeing the city, but we saved a lot of money in doing so and by not hiring a car.Written 27 March 2024
- silverfoxMuscat0 contributionsCity Bus TourWe were on a week's holiday visit to Madeira, and because we did not have long to see the island, we decided to take the bus tour. This was £25 for the 2 in 1 ticket and, as usual, was with translated audio.Written 21 March 2024
- Louise G0 contributionsGreat way to see FunchalWe had the vmt dolphin experience and hop on and off bus combo. What I wished I'd known was that this was a thing because we booked at the end of our trip and we could've had 48hrs of hop on and off. The bus is a great idea, it has headphones so you can listen to the history of Madeira. The only down thing is they stop around 6pm so we couldn't use it to come back from the whale watching. It is possible to follow the buses online so you can see when they're arriving and where they are. This is really handy for getting on and off.Written 18 March 2024

We did the 3 in 1 tour today, boarding at the teleferico and gettting off at Camera de Lobos, where we spent about 1-2 hours. This included having lunch. There isn't actually a huge amount to see at CdL. The cafe where we had lunch was very slow because a party of 12 had come in just before us and ordered several courses. It must have taken 45 mins to actually get our food. They were equally slow in bringing the bill and we saw the yellow bus depart under our noses.
Despite having being told the buses run every 30 mins, the next one wasn't scheduled for another 1.30 mins! Luckily we worked out it must be turning round for the return journey and managed to get on it at the stop on the road immediately above where we had got out. We also stopped off at the Forum shopping centre but what time the bus actually came for the return journey was anybody's guess! Apparently the last one was 4 pm - ours came at around 3.50 pm. You have been warned!
The bus ticket is only valid for 24 hrs but apparently the cable car trip can be taken at any time. We are planning to do this tomorrow if this info is correct. I can only agree with the other people reviewing this service that the timing is dodgy, but in January there was at least very view people on the bus. Tip: Sit right at the front behind the windscreen if poss as it was very windy further back.

We purchased our tickets at a tourist shop and the girl had written the wrong amount on the ticket, so the first driver would not let us on. As my husband set off down the steep hill to get the ticket amended a second bus arrived and the lovely driver happily shouted us back and amended the ticket for us. From that point on every driver was lovely, and very helpful in helping us find our way around. Great way to see the sites and get your bearings. The commentary was a bit hit and miss depending which bus you were on. We were visiting at Christmas and the weather was stunning and the buses not too crowded so we always managed to get seats on the open top deck.

Bus on runs every hour. No timetable at each stop, very unorganised , caused a lot of stress. This was the red bus. The yellow bus was more regular and had a timetable at each stop. One can purchase an octopus card for the local buses which I would highly recommend purchasing one

We were really disappointed by the Yellow Bus tours. Having been recommended them over rhe City Sightseeing tours, we bought a 48 hour pass. The commentary is dreadful. There is very little information, mainly music, and what commentary there is is badly read and really doesn't give you a good guide of what you are passing. In the morning the buses are every 1/2 an hour, but in the afternoon every 45 minutes with no timetables on the website or bus stops, so you find yourself just missing buses and waiting for a long time. All in all its not great value for money, especially as children are only up to 10 (since when is a 11 year old an adult).

As there are not many tourists as usual on the island the busses have been cut down so you have to wait longer for a bus. Because of this I couldn’t do the Cabo girao tour. I then tried to go a second time on the next day but even then the first bus left late so I couldn’t make for the Cabo girao connecting bus. There was another one after but I may not have made it back in time for my flight especially with how unreliable these busses are. So I wasn’t taking that risk. I would not really recommend this doing this until everything is back to normal and they have loads more busses running. For now I would say use local busses or walk. At least if your in a group a cab is good option as you can split the cost and better than waiting around at a bus stop.

We bought a three route five day ticket. The routes gave us a great overview of Funchal and we thought the cost was good value. The busses only run half hourly and not to an advertised timetable. Whilst this is understandable due to traffic delays road works etc it does mean you can arrive at a stop not knowing a bus has just left and have to wait 30 minutes for the next one.

First time in Madeira and a good option for seeing the sights of Funchal out to Camara dos Lobos where there is a change required to a smaller bus for the Cabo Girao tour. First day we simply did the full circuit on the bigger bus. Second day we used the first bus to get out to change and off to Cabo Girao which was wel worth it. Other days (we had bought the 5 day ticket - the extra €3 was a no brainer for us) we used to get into town from our hotel. Worth the money and I’m sure the other bus companies do something very similar but for what we wants this was fine

Unreliable. We paid for the 5 day 3-1 ticket which appeared cost effective but it turned out there is no time table other than stating that the service is every 45 minutes. After waiting 90 minutes we gave up and had just left when it turned up. There was no apology other than saying the other driver should have turned up. Not impressed!

We had nothing but a positive experience with this company. They went above and beyond to insure we got on the right bus after being confused about where we were to pick up the bus. Their busses are double decker and we loved riding up top until it started raining! They have a good program you can listen to on ear buds they provide but it seemed out of sync with the scenery we were seeing. It could have been I was the one out of sync! Highly recommended

There may be a map online but we could not find it. We got a map on the bus. There are 2 routes and it is a good way to see the whole city and surrounds,, it is so steep and hilly there, you must be very fit to walk around looking at the sights,, better from the bus. Reasonable price and worth the money.
