- Dana A0 contributionsYou will definitely enjoy it. Just be prepared for all the 4 seasons of Madeira. We had a great day out to the Eastern part of the island with two other couples. Our guide, Silvio, was a very friendly, funny, knowledgeable guy with great driving skills. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, very picturesque scenery, fantastic company and all the local drinks and food throughout this 8h trip. The guide was very punctual and polite as well. Really recommend!Written 19 March 2025
- davidrO4398BK0 contributionsEast Safari TourHighly recommended. Full stop! Silvio, our driver and guide, was perfect. Great laugh all day. Off Road is his forte..! Pick a day when its decent weather as the first stop on the Pico mountain is chilly - remember the jumper and coats as at 1900m its always windy! Great day out, so ask for Silvio if you have a sense of humour as he will be right on it. 😁👍Written 19 March 2025
- D5953JBneils0 contributionsGreat tripWell organised trip, with very picturesque views. Silvio was an excellent and informative guide. I would recommend this company.Written 17 March 2025
- Jane L0 contributionsExciting day, beautiful sceneryGreat day out making the best of some very wet weather! We were 2 and joined by 2 other couples - it was a good mix and John, our guide, was very knowledgeable and provided a full day's entertainment!!Written 16 March 2025
- Highlandblade0 contributionsFantastic Experience!Just had a fantastic day, Our guide Tyrese was brilliant, full of information and enjoying a laugh with the passengers. A great way to see some of the more remote parts of the Island.Written 13 March 2025
- Daydream044591265920 contributionsA fun day with a great guideThe trip was amazing. Our guide, Miguel was very knowledgeable, from the local flora and fauna to the history and agricultural practices. Pico do Areeiro was unfortunately closed because of snow, but we tried to go for it, and turned at the closed gate, high up in the mountains. It was super foggy, so there would be no views anyway. The off-road bits were fun, after the rain stopped, Miguel opened the roof, so we could stand up in the car while on the forest roads. FYI for future customers, the rum tasting includes one type (of delicious) rum, but if you expect a proper tasting with explanation and multiple varieties, this is not your tour. This did not leave me dissatisfied, but it wasn't clear to me from the description what to expect at this stop.Written 6 March 2025
- RichardP13240 contributionsGreat family funDespite the Pico road being closed due to snow, we had a great time. Great way to see Madeira. We particularly enjoyed the short hike to Balcoes. And the sky walk.Written 6 March 2025
- Marjan B0 contributionsGreat tourExcellent way to see the island... we started with sunshine, on Pico do Arieiro it was misty and cold, so unfortunately you could not see anything. Further north, it was still raining/ drizzling, but this didn't dampen the mood. Levada walk was great, not long and very easily walkable. Santana was too touristy for me. Ponta do sao Lourenco was bathing in sunshine, great views... perfect!Written 3 March 2025
- 525angih0 contributionsA great experience well worth the costWe thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to the east of the island with Tiago. He is an incredibly good driver and handled all the difficult roads of Madeira and parking situations perfectly. He was also very informative on everything from the history to the flora to the industry. The weather was not the best but it was still a fun and interesting day out and he looked after us all really well. I only mark the tour down slightly because the seats in the back of the jeep were pretty uncomfortable and the view from those seats a bit restricted.Written 2 March 2025
- irispP3338UI0 contributionsMadeira eastThe Safari 4x4 East Tour with Safari Madeira was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Miguel, was incredibly informative and his passion for the island was evident throughout the day. He shared fascinating insights, making every stop even more special. The breathtaking landscapes and exciting off-road sections added to the adventure. A fantastic way to explore Madeira—highly recommended!Written 19 February 2025
- Daydream1009460 contributionsFantastic way to see the islandWe had a great day with a great guide! This was the great way to see the island, without stress and too much of the planning. The guide was amazing: experienced in driving through narrow and steep roads, entertaining and was providing a lot of information. I recommend taking the tour!Written 19 February 2025
- Coastal365080103330 contributionsGreat informative and fun day.We had a great day with our driver, Miguel and his colleague Alex who were very informative and fun. Loved the off road sections with plenty of time on our stops to look around and take photos. Also travelled witch 2 other couples who joined in the fun to make the day. We celebrated my husbands birthday and another gents who was with us.Written 18 February 2025
- 743haydnd0 contributionsExcellent trip.Excellent trip with guide Alex. Just as described. Bit of fun in the old Nissan Patrol especially when the canvas roof gets rolled back and you are driving through the off road forest section. Plus the minor village roads where no bigger bus could go.Written 11 February 2025
- Christina L0 contributionsFull day West jeep tour with Safari MadeiraWe went on the West jeep tour with Safari Madeira, where Silvio was our excellent driver and tour guide. We can very much recommend this tour, where Silvio showed us many local places on very narrow streets that we would never had been able to see on our own, lots of beautiful view points, fun and exciting off-road tours in forrests and lots of interesting stories and information about madeira and life on madeira. Really gave an impression of madeira being an amazing Island. Definitely a must-do tour. Safe, interesting, fun and a great experience.Written 10 February 2025
- Discover000962431710 contributionsExcellent jeep safariWe had great weather which made for an excellent trip exactly as described. Driver guide was very good. This is a great way to see the eastern side of Madeira.Written 5 February 2025

John was our guide, picked us up in time at the hotel, showed us the best spots of the island, told us insights and could literally answer every single question. I can only recommend the Jeep Safari Tour as you get to see more of the secluded places and have plenty of fun while driving off-road. John literally went the extra-mile, arranged a great lunch with fair prices and showed us more than booked. We were so blessed with him that we booked a second trip with Safari Madeira with him, going to the East of Madeira.

An excellent tour, covering a fair bit in the 8 hours. We went to some spectacular sites and saw the natural beauty of Madeira. Our guide, John our driver and guide, was excellent, sharing enough information to draw out what we were interested in and then expanding on that any any follow on questions we had. Had good general knowledge about most things which complimented his in depth knowledge relating specifically to Madeira.
The off road part was so much fun, John can drive...he'd fit right in as a rally driver! Handled the cat beautifully in the tight twists and turns.
Was also really peaceful when we went the Unesco World Heritage site walk/hike, giving us a chance to experience the sounds, smells and views of the forests.
In all a great day, only 3 things to recommend for fellow travellers and to the tour operator...
1. Lunch isn't included so bring your own, we knew this but didn't bring anything and John our guide took us to a nice hotel/restaurant where we enjoyed a nice break and refuel.
2. I think it would be a good idea for the tour operator to offer cold drinks and sandwiches as part of the tour. Maybe stopping to eat at one of the many beautiful locations we visited, obviously subject to a small additional charge & the weather.
3. We went in December 2023, take an extra jumper and waterproof coat as you could be caught out by the weather. It was cold till around 12 but the weather then really opened up and was much more pleasant for the rest of the day. The 1818m Pico De Arieiro mounting peak is probably best visited on clearer days as it was too cloudy and foggy when we went in December 2023 meaning we weren't able to take in any of the views. The drive, cafe and gift shop were a nice pit stop none the less.
In all, we'd recommend this tour and really want to shout out our driver John whom made the whole day an enjoyable experience. Also helped us with his knowledge of Madeira and was able to answer many questions about other things we wanted to do whilst in Madeira.

Great way to experience this side of the island, scenery fantastic and going off road to part of the island visitors would not experience in a rental vehicle or be aware of made for a great day. Our guide Jose kept the day fun, was a great driver and we appreciated that he made an effort to avoid the tunnels when it was possible to enable us to see more. If you’re hiring a rental vehicle this tour is still a great way to gauge bearings and have the opportunity to go off road that we were unable to do in a rental. If you’re planning on swimming you may prefer to skip lunch offered at own cost to the group. We personally liked the lunch was a great way to get to know the group and the weather wasn’t great for swimming on the day we were there however if the weathers good and you want a good amount of time at the pools perhaps would advise skipping or confirming with driver exactly how much time you will have to swim. Fabulous way to spend the day with a great group of people.

We had a great time on our Safari tour! Our tour guide, Phillip, was fantastic! He let my 76yo mom ride shotgun while my family of four rode in the back. He carefully navigated the new and old roads of Madeira giving us a thrill ride at times and we even got to stand for parts of the trip. He made sure we saw all the highlights, took us around the whole island, gave us some free time to explore at each stop, and educated us all along the way about life on the island including some history, I would highly recommend this tour to safely get to see the island without have to navigate the steep hills and turns in a standard rental car. Views from the jeep are so much better than in a van and allow for excellent picture taking. Van fits 7, so we made 2 new friends as well. 10/10!

An interesting and fun tour. The driver was very nice and answered the guests' questions as best as possible. The stop for swimming or eating was great. It was possible to book a menu for an extra fee. The menu that was offered (fish, black scarpa, chicken, vegetarian including a bottle of wine per couple and a bottle of water) was very good and had a great price/performance ratio. Overall, a successful trip

Two friends trying to find the best way to explore Madeira and by far this is the best way to go! An amazing Tour guide Miguel Olivera took us to all the key areas around the north west, providing us with relevant information and answering all our questions. His knowledge is impeccable second only to his singing skills - Feliz Navidad has a special place in my heart. Full of banter and care, ever the gentleman opening the doors for all of us and ensuring we don’t bang our heads thé jeep is a perfect way to get your own personal tour of the north west. Telling us when we can stand to explore the mountains at its finest, or recommending the best places to eat I recommend this tour to anyone. Highlight is the Porto Moritz natural baths which is a must in Madeira! Incredible experience.

Me and my friend reluctantly booked this trip as we don’t tend to enjoy organise tours but my god this was a good decision. We literally had the best day! Our guide was Micheal and he was so knowledgeable and brought so much fun to the day! He took us all over the island and we definitely got our moneys worth. We visited a fishing village, natural pools, went up the mountains, in the forests, went to loads of view points and saw the island in all its beauty! This trip is seriously good value for money and I would highly recommend to anyone who wants an adventure and to see the beautiful island. Thanks Safari Madeira

A great mix of sites seen and places visited. The vehicle can only fit 6 people maximum, so it's a lovely small sized group. Depending on the weather you stop at between 5 and 7 locations on the north west part of the island. In between you get to see stunning scenery plus some off road action too! A great fun day.

Normally I rent a car on holiday so this was a new experience for me, collected from the hotel by Filipe (hope my spelling is correct) who immediately helped the 8 tourists bond and have fun together. We spent hours travelling the coast and mountains with Filipe informing us of the sights all the way. Best part for me was when he stopped at a tiny little bar halfway down the mountains, the sort of place tourists wouldn’t find. The hospitality shown to us there was marvellous, they even shared a complementary homemade drink with us. Little tip for other guests, bring some cash because small local places don’t always accept cards but because this is off the beaten track it’s low local prices.
Very enjoyable day, small group allowed people to get to know each other, and our host was simply brilliant!!

A sense of disappointment.
No 3 course lunch was pointed out to us. Just shops with sandwiches
No swimming. Yet I spent the day carrying swimwear.
No waterfall
Mostly the guide Phillip was chatting to the guy in front and we didn't understand. Even when we asked questions to get an interaction we got very limited response back. Eg I asked about Camera de Lobo's and was told it was a fishing village. Er Yeah I could see fishing boats....turns out there is also a connection to Churchill, but this wasn't explained. I found out after.
To be honest it felt like a day following a guy who was getting his breakfast at a random shop. Then a stop off somewhere else for Coffee and again his lunch. We didn't get a good feel for the country and to honest we left feeling like we won't bother to return.
I've no idea why we had such a poor experience,as almost every review is so positive, even with the same guide.
At the end of that day my children and I were reading other reviews and the itinerary to try to work out if this is what I paid for.
I didn't want to leave a negative review but also need to tell the truth. For us this was not a good time
