Daniela made our class lively and entertaining. We enjoyed learning about the history and process of making azulejo tiles, as well as their cultural significance to Portugal. Her instructions on making and painting the tiles were both clear and fun, in all of the languages she spoke during our class. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique experience in Porto.

On a narrow street in Porto (actually part of the walk to Santiago de Compostela - look for the market at the bottom of the street) and not far from Sam Bento the train station is a cozy studio where we painted tiles under the encouraging eye of Danielle, a ceramics artist. Everything you need is available with lots of designs to transfer to your tile and lots of colours to use. Danielle was a gracious host and teacher, and we found ourselves with fellow travellers who all had a good time. A good way to relax and bring a little of Portugal home.

Daniella and her team were amazing! A ceramicist herself, she shared a little bit about the history of the tiles and tile painting in Portugal. She shared the techniques of how the tiles around the city are painted and maintained and, of course, the adapted technique that we used to paint our own tiles. She also served the best port tonic that we've had! We attended the class as a family of 5 - my husband and I and our 3 girls, years 7, 4 and 1. The 7 and 4 year old loved it! Daniella kept their attention with the history of the tiles and worked with them as they painted their own, helping them when they needed it. She also offered to hold the 1 year old for a while so that both my husband and I could paint. There is also a little dog at the front of the shop that the girls loved petting! Daniella was such a warm, kind host. We had such an amazing experience and would definitely do this again next time we are in Porto!

My partner and I went for a tile painting workshop in late March and we absolutely loved it. Learning about the history of Porto and its tiles before getting to work designing, tracing and painting our own tiles under the helpful eyes of Daniella was fantastic. She made delicious cocktails and traditional Portuguese pastries to get us through the workshop and then glazed and fired our tiles ready to be picked up within a few hours. I’ve already recommended this workshop to a few friends who are visiting Porto later this year!

Excellent experience. As someone who isn’t “artsy” Luzita made the experience fool proof. She gave us the background and history of the tiles and shared some tips and tricks to make our amateur tiles look like masterpieces. 5 out of 5 stars.

What a wonderful experience! Daniela was so enthusiastic and even provided the history of tiles in Portugal before we started painting our own tiles. She was such a great teacher, so patient and encouraging. I am far from artistic, however still ended up painting a gorgeous tile to take home with Daniela’s guidance. What a truly unique souvenir from Portugal! Highly recommend this activity.

It was a very enriching experience. Daniela will help you make all your ideas come true and it will end up being a beautiful result. The cocktail was very delicious and the group was very cool. Unfortunately, I left my umbrella at the door at your direction and forgot it and then it was impossible between tours to get it back.

It was a lovely time. It was nice to learn the history around the tiles. It is so beautiful. Also, the host (Daniela) was lovely and fun. And the place it self is nice and comforting. My friend and I had a great time.

We went to a tile painting (with cocktails!) workshop and had a great couple of hours, we found out the history of the tiles in Portugal and what the colours mean. It was so interesting, we met some lovely people and we now have a keepsake tile to put in the garden to remind us of our trip.
Would definitely recommend doing a workshop here.

It has been exceptional. I highly recommend it. The teacher tells the story of the tile and then one is painted with acrylic paint and you pick it up after two hours. He speaks English and Spanish perfectly. A person who transmits the love and sensitivity of tile craftsmanship. It adapts to all types of students. For me the only drawback is that it does not have an oven to paint with pigment and water, but it is for infrastructure reasons.
