About
Roaming the antiquities on Athens’ Acropolis slopes by yourself may give you only a sketchy picture of their history and risks you missing some must-sees. On this small-group walking tour, a guide shows you around and sheds light on each sight’s past. Plus, the tour begins at Syntagma Square, so you cover some of Athens’ more modern highlights, including the Parliament. Admission to the Acropolis is at your own expense.

This was a GREAT tour as long as you have some stamina. :-)
We started at Syntagma (I really liked the exhibit in the Metro station!) and worked our way through the National Garden, Zeus’ Temple, Hadrian’s Gate, and then to the Acropolis. The guide (Dorina) was very knowledgeable and did a great job keeping the group together and avoiding unnecessary delays. There was plenty of time to explore a little on your own…I never felt rushed. After the Acropolis, we went to the adjacent museum—the air conditioning alone was worth rhe price of the ticket! :-) The museum had a lot of interesting items, and Dorina did a great job highlighting specific items but also allowing for self-exploration.
Overall, i was very pleased with this tour and would recommend it without any hesitation. Enjoy!!

We normally avoid guided tours and only chose a paid tour because we were told it was the only way to avoid long lines at the Acropolis. That turned out not to have been an issue in February, but I'm glad we had the tour anyway. Katrina was deeply knowledgeable about Greek history and had a great sense of humor, so we got a lot more out of our sight-seeing than we would have on our own. (And I say that as someone well read in Greek history.) The length of the tour was rough on our teens, to whom it was all a lot of boring old ruins and rubble, but that would have been true anyway--and in fact there were several times where Katrina's narrative actually caught their interest and opened their eyes in ways we probably couldn't have on our own.

Dear Greg, your feedback means a lot to us, especially since you normally avoid guided tours. We are delighted that we managed to change your mind. However, the commment that really made our day is that the storytelling of our guide actually captivated the attention of your teenagers. Perhaps this is our greatest reward, as we are aware of the diffculty level of such a task. We are grateful for all your lovely comments, and hope to host you and your family again soon! Until then, stay safe, and keep on exploring interesting places!

We had an amazing time on this walking tour! Our guide, Natasha, went above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience for us. She was an incredible guide and we learned so much! I love that she pointed out small, super interesting things we would have never noticed before. She gave us ample time to ask our questions and was very engaging, even staying later than the planned end time. The Acropolis is breathtaking up close and the museum was really cool too. Definitely glad we got to tour the gardens too as we may never have gone there on our own! Definitely will book again with this company on our next trip!

We really enjoyed our tour with Katerina. As an archeologist, she had such a great understanding of the history of the area as well as archeological digs that have happened in and around Greece. She was witty and fascinating and her story about her dig at Akrotiri in Santorini made us end up visiting there once we left Athens. I would highly recommend requesting her as your guide. Her personal stories, mixed in with the rich history that inhibits Athens made for a very personal tour.

We did the Acropolis Walking Tour, Including Syntagma Square and Historical City Center. The Athens Walking Tour was one of our best ever. Including the City gave an additonal dimension. Fotini was exceptional, knowledgeable, personable, humourous and pulled the diverse group together. It was our first time in Athens. Off season there were no crowds. Highly memorable. Thanks.

We are so pleased to have selected Athens Walking Tours for our tour of Athens city center and the Acropolis. Our tour guide Kimon was fantastic from start to finish, taking care to explain at a comfortable pace and with the perfect amount of details. We came away from the tour feeling that we had learnt so much in approximately 4 hours. We will definitely use Athens Walking Tours again when we return to Athens in the future.

We were taken on a walking tour with our guide Dorina yesterday. It was brilliant! We learned so much from her, she was so knowledgeable and kept us interested. This tour is not to be missed if you want to learn about the history of Athens and visit all the main sites.

I would advise going for the earliest time if you can, because the tour ends on top of the Acropolis around midday, and it is very hot at this point. We did the 9.30 tour but I would opt for the 8.30 tour if possible.

Don’t let this put you off though, you will not regret booking this tour!

Thanks Dorina for being a great guide :)

We are very glad that you enjoyed your tour with Dorina who is indeed an excellent licensed guide! Its true that during the summer months (June- September) can get quite hot up on the Acropolis hill and that’s why our guides make many stops and keep a moderate walking pace so everyone can make it!

This is an incredible walking tour. Our guide Effie did a great job. She is very knowledgeable and added a touch of humor to the tour. We started at the Syntagma Metro Station in the square. She explained facts regarding the artifacts that were found during construction of the metro. Them took us to the Parliament building where we watched the changing of the guards. A must see while in Athens. We then walked the National Garden. Effie pointed out highlights and facts regarding the garden. Our tour included Zeus Temple, but due to it being under restorations we were given a choice to see the Olympic Station instead. Effie shared interesting facts about the stadium. Then on to the Acropolis!!! It was a very hot day, but we made it to the top. Effie took it slow and encouraged water drinking. The trip to the top was well worth it. It is an incredible site.
I would throughly recommend this tour.

Elena was a fantastic guide! Friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and eager to tell us everything we wanted to know. The tour itself was very well organized and left us feeling that we know and understand some very important highlights of Athens and Greek heritage in itself. I highly recommend Athens walking tours and of course our lovely guide Elena.
