What to expect
  • After morning pickup from your central Athens hotel (select hotels only), set off by air-conditioned vehicle for Athens’ port at Piraeus. Here, board the ferry for Hydra, one of Greece’s Saronic Islands, located in the Aegean Sea. Enjoy the scenery and sea air on your journey, admiring the Greek coast and islands along the way. As you approach Hydra Town, take in the natural amphitheater of the harbor, where the quayside is ringed with pastel-colored houses and mansions from the 18th and 19th centuries. Then, step ashore and enjoy hours to explore and relax as you wish. All your activities on the island, including meals, drinks, boat trips, and sightseeing are at your own expense. A favorite haunt of artists and musicians in the 1960s and 70s, this picturesque island offers a timeless Greek atmosphere tinged with a cosmopolitan vibe. No motor vehicles are allowed — apart from garbage trucks — with the only transportation provided by bicycle, donkeys, and water taxis — adding to the slow pace. Perhaps start by watching the boats come and go over coffee, and then delve into Hydra’s quaint, paved lanes. Admire the stone houses and flower-filled gardens, and browse the chic shops and boutiques before enjoying lunch (additional cost) in a taverna or café. If you wish, seek out some of the pretty beaches. Hydra has many swimming spots and bays, some on the edges of Hydra Town, and some in more remote locations, accessible by boat (additional cost). As the day draws to a close, perhaps finish at one of Hydra Town’s popular bars. Cocktail lounges and music clubs can be found all around town. Then, relax on your ferry journey back to Piraeus, where your trip ends with a drop-off at your hotel.

    Stop: 7 hours
After less than 2 hours by ferry, you will reach the famous island. You will then have seven hours to independently explore Hydra. Hydra was once a destination popular with fashionable artists during the sixties and has kept a highly cosmopolitan character. There are no cars or motorcycles; garbage trucks are the only motor vehicles permitted on the island. Spend your day walking around Hydra Town admiring the stone houses with flowered gardens, lovely gift shops and picturesque paved streets. Donkeys, bicycles, and water taxis provide public transportation. Hydra has a variety of swimming spots and beaches, some close to town and some remote and secluded, accessible only by boat. Lounge cafeterias, port-side bars and loud clubs are found all over the town with options that can satisfy all tastes. Enjoy a day full of experiences on your own and in the afternoon, take the ferry back to Athens at the conclusion of the tour.

Hydra is beautiful well worth going but KEYTOURS charged too much and they were not at the port to pick us up as arranged …no sign no names waiting for us….we were waiting for over over half an hour and when we had to get another taxi to take us back to hotel….when we complained to victor and keytours and requested to be reimbursed for the xtra money we paid for another taxi KEYTOURS insisted that they were there waiting for us for an hour and a half….not true….not trustworthy and unprofessional ….do not recommend to use KEYTOURS again

We did this trip on are own. Made arrangements and purchased tickets the day before. It is easy enough. Plan your day and be prepared. It is all walking or taking a boat to a boat access beach. Great food, swimming, and shopping. I would recommend an extend stay. I am going to plan on doing it as well/

Hydra is everything you could imagine and more. This trip charges way more per person than the actual cost of the trip. Definitely do this trip, but just go to the website for Hellenic seaways and purchase the trip yourself!!

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your time to send us your review and I feel very sorry for not satisfying your expectations on this occasion. Despite the fact that your opinion is fully respected, I trust you understand that since our product offers a pick up service from your hotel with our newly branded and clean mini vans to the port, the tickets themselves and also a transfer from the port to you hotel with our polite and helpful drivers that are waiting for you I believe that it is not fair for our product to be compared with the price of single tickets. I hope this helps and I always remain at your disposal. Kind Regards, Dimitris Bistolas | Μanaging Director

If we ever return to Hydra, we will probably spend a couple of nights so we can explore more of the island, but we enjoyed our day trip from Athens. I understand that it would be cheaper to take public transportation to the harbor and then to take the ferry to Hydra, but it was nice to be picked up at our hotel and delivered straight to our speedy catamaran. We appreciated the prompt and orderly pickups and drop offs. We had a full and leisurely day of walking and shopping in Hydra, including a fine seafood lunch in nearby Kaminia a light dinner back in town. It was a great day.

TOTAL SCAM! Not sure where all of the 460 euro went to. I’m not a mathematician, but a ticket to Hydra Island was 29.50 x 4 = 118 and return trip to Athens was 29.50 x 4 = 118, so round trip was 236. So my guess is that the 15-minute ride to and from hotel to the port cost 224 euro....PLEASE don’t waste your money and do this tour. You can get to the port via metro or a normal taxi and buy your tickets to the island there. (BTW, the vehicle there was s nice Mercedes van, on the way home we were cramped in a normal yellow taxi , LOL....total scam).

Hydra is a lovely island, close to Athens. It's a day trip from Athens port (boat departure spot is reachable by metro). We enjoyed being out of the city for a day on this little island which bans cars. The main town is tourist central, but not all bad. If you walk along the coast from the town there are great little spots to swim in the sea and relax, as well as some nice cafes overlooking the blue sea. Nothing special about the boat ride, but it only takes about an hour and is worth it.
