About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- GingerFanny0 contributionsWorthwhileThoroughly enjoyed our trip (4 adults, 1 child). Our lovely, friendly guide, Andreas, was fabulous - not only was he welcoming, friendly, and a good driver, but he also was a great photographer (knew how to use the cameras on our phones better than we do!), waiter and guide. This is a great way to see real Crete. The best part of the day was Privelli beach and my only negative comment would be that you don't get long enough at the beach. Could do with another hour for snorkeling. The lunch provided was amazing - we all said how yummy it was, well, everyone except my son who is a fussy eater (he didn't like the local food). All in all, it's a worthwhile trip but if you are travelling with children who are fussy eaters, make sure to take snacks and food with you.Written 3 November 2024
- davefI3816GG0 contributionsFantastic day tripAmazing Tour with Andreas. Great guide. Sampled local honey, olive oil, and bread. Great viewing of lots of local spots. Photos stops were great as was the photographer Andreas! Lots of information we learned a lot about Crete and its history. Amazing walk 10 mins up and down (take sensible shoes trainers!) To a wonderful beach swam in the sea snorkeling to see some fish and clear water. (Not provided) lovely experience. Then lovely lunch wine and raki. A little off roading experience. You all change seats so not always in same position in the land rover. Food was great. Stop off in Spili sample the water from the fountains and walked up to the folk museum small and free 5 mins lovely man inside explaining more around history of artifacts and house. Really enjoyed it xWritten 29 October 2024

Chris was so funny and very knowledgeable on Crete and its history. The goats were adorable and the taverna lunch was delicious. - 409daniellem0 contributionsBOOK IT!!!Everything about this experience was truly incredible - the scenery, food, culture and history but above all our guide (Andreas) went above and beyond to make the experience exceptional. From pick up to drop off we had so much fun. We would genuinely love to do it all over again and cannot recommend this enough! An absolutely must. THANK YOU ANDREAS!!! (Definitely worth bringing your swimming stuff and walking the 10 minutes to the beach with the palm trees and river)Written 20 October 2024

- Kit00690 contributionsWonderful experience with Vasilis, our fantastic driver and guide.Picked up from our hotel and headed to the south of the island. After an exciting drive, saw Griffon Vultures from the top of one of the mountains. Ventured through an amazing gorge before wandering along a deserted beach. Fantastic lunch as well as other frequent stops. Vasilis kept us entertained with his local knowledge and wry humour. A fantastic day which we would happily do again. Highly recommended.Written 9 October 2024

- B19520 contributionsGreat day in the MountainsWe were on the Birthplace of Zeus trip however the Cave is closed at present. Nonetheless it was a great day in the mountains. Our guide Darrel is knowledgeable and entertaining. We made lots of stops to see vultures soaring high above, admire ancient engineering (Roman and Venetian), admire the views and geology. We stopped in a village to hear about WW II history and at a goat dairy to meet the goats and taste cheese and raki. Visiting a working monastery was interesting. Lunch at a BBQ café on the plateau was very good and the agriculture there impressive. Some of the ride was, as promised, off well formed roads but we felt safe high on the mountainside.Written 6 October 2024
- emmafR3086IN0 contributionsEpic journey to the heart of CreteWe have done this tour many times and it's one of the very best, but what made our most recent was the tour guide Darrel lovell. He was superb from start to finish, his knowledge was amazing, he made the trip, fun, interesting, fantastic photo opportunities and never rushed us. He came across as genuinely passionate about what he wanted us to explore. Brilliant guy, helpful to me (Emma) as I have a walking aid and he helped me when needed getting in and out of Jeep. Photo opportunities were outstanding and even helped us when looking out for Griffin vultures, truly amazing experience. Highly recommended this trip, it's even better when your tour guide is as good as Darrel. Thanks Emma and Alan Floyd-Cocksedge UK BristolWritten 1 October 2024

Last week we had the opportunity to join this wonderful safari on Thursday. Our guide Vasili was an extremely friendly and enthusiastic man, who captured us with his great sense of humour and broad knowledge of the the region. He surprised us by even speaking our language (Dutch) quite fluently, and showed us the true face of the island of Crete. All in all it was an experience that I will never forget and highly recommend to anyone who's interested in anything apart from the beach and sun, since this day trip has history, culture, gastronomy and nature all mixed in one!
Safety is also prioritized, since masks were mandatory inside the car and disinfecting alcohol was offered each time the land rover was exited or re-entered. Another big thank you to Vasili for making this possible, again I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the island!

Geoff provided a phenomenal service on this full day Land Rover ride. He had clear expertise on life in Crete and it’s fascinating history. If you want a day out, a tour, expert history of Greece, views of wildlife (mountain goats, donkeys, vultures and more)- I would recommend booking!
Thanks so much Geoff for being a great driver, great photographer, great history teacher, and great at being inclusive and bringing the group together- 5 definite stars!

Great tour, highly recommend this tour. Leonidas was very informative, fun and attentive, he was genuinely interested in ensuring each one of us had a great time. He made the tour so much more interesting than it could have been. The included lunch was really good, great variety of traditional foods to sample, and the restaurant staff were extremely nice and friendly.

We booked this adventure through Seabourn Cruise Lines and were "Blown away" by the uniqueness of this trip/adventure. Geoff our guide and driver was the most knowledgeable guide we had on the entire cruise. His knowledge of the area, history, topography, fauna, and flora was amazing. He would stop along the way and pick a leaf or part of a bush and show and tell us of it's use as herb or medicinal product. There were very few questions that went unanswered. The lunch stop was one of the highlights of the trip. The food and wine were perfect. In fact my wife commented it was the best "off the ship" dinning experience we had on the entire 3 week cruise. The photo stops were approiate and spectacular. Unfortunately our photo files are too large. Otherwise we would include a couple.
If you are considering a unique experience on Crete this is it!!
Geoff is the "GO TO" guide!!!!!

My 10 year old son and I loved this experience. From beginning to end, Darrel was a fountain of knowledge. I suspect that whatever he doesn’t know about Crete, probably isn’t worth knowing! He made it fun and interesting, and more importantly engaging enough for a 10 year old.
Comfy walking shoes, some money for the cave entrance fee, sun protection and some drinking water are all that you need to bring because the lunch provided is delicious and very filling.
The caves were well worth the long walk up and lovely and cool once you got inside. Darrel advised the best way for us to go up and come down and he was right.
The goats are adorable and we were so excited to see the famous griffon vultures. The 2,000 year old plane tree was impressive and Darrel, we will always remember the camera trick you showed us…we have used it many times since. The shopping along the route was great too, who doesn’t love a bit of high altitude retail therapy. Thank you for a memorable trip.

We booked the tour as an excursion while on our cruise. I believe our drivers name was Kostas. My husband and I are 48/50 yrs old and my parents are 76/77. My father has difficulty with walking long distances. We all agreed this was probably our favorite tour of our entire 2 week trip. This tour and our driver gave us so much more insight into the island versus regular cruise port tours. We felt we saw the real island and versus just the tourist locations.
The ride is bumpy! 😀 and the vehicle can get crowded if completely full and passengers are larger. Luckily our tour had only 6 people (us 4 and another couple) so there were no issues. The stops made to try local bread, oil, raki, and cheese were awesome. We got visit and explore small villages tucked away in the countryside. There were plenty of stops to take pictures and we saw lots of wildlife. Our driver stopped along the way to point out trees/plants and picked wild herbs for us to smell. Wonderful and very interesting/informative.
The lunch was fantastic! So much food! Incredible that such a great and filling lunch was included in the price.
Overall, the tour/day is completely worth the cost and we would 100% recommend it to all ages. We got back to ship tired and with plenty of time before departure.

The trip is really highly recommended!! Our guide Thomas always told a lot of interesting things about the island of Crete during the trip. We stopped at many exciting places, learned a lot and were able to taste some Cretan specialties. Time passed incredibly fast!
P.S. I would recommend booking the Vito as it is certainly more comfortable and especially air conditioned - unlike the Jeep :)

Absolutely fantastic experience!!! This was one of the best experiences I have done on a trip ever. We were lucky enough to have Daryll as our tour guide, and he does live up to the hype! We also had a fab time with the other people on the trip too which made our day more enjoyable.
The Jeep is bumpy so be prepared for that otherwise I couldn’t fault a single thing! The day itself is fun, you get to go up to the mountains, Daryll knows so much about the island and will answer any questions, he is so friendly and knowledgeable and hilarious.
We saw some of the vulture’s so that was cool, the cave of zeus is excellent and after hiking up the hill the coolness of the cave is well needed. Also there is a café at the top and loads of stores and restaurants at the bottom so it’s a nice stop to make.
The restaurant we ate at was delicious, really lovely homemade dishes (and lots of wine!!)
We stopped in a couple of villages for some treats too. And I loved all the goats!
Overall I really recommend this trip as it’s a fun day out and you see loads of the gorgeous island. Definitely book!

Our guide Jason was outstanding! From initial greeting to the end of the day, Jason was funny, informative and really knowledgable about all of Crete. He has been living here since 2004 so knows the landscape, the locals and the plateau. We visited mountain shepherds and their goats, we had a break at a small taverna for a coffee and we had the best trip to the cave of Zeus’ birthplace. The mountain road can only be driven by such a experienced driver who made it look easy!
I would highly recommend the tour and Jason as the tour guide if you’re lucky enough to get him!

It was mine and my boyfriends first time in Crete and we booked this excursion last minute on our last day in Crete and we are so glad we did, what a fantastic way it was to end our holiday!
Our driver, Daryl, was absolutely fantastic constantly providing information about the local area, its history, the landscape and answering all and any questions we had. I honestly can’t thank him enough, he was brilliant and by far the best tour guide I have ever had and made the experience that much better!
We took a slightly different route than usual due to the potential wildfires but it was still a fantastic trip where we stopped off at multiple photo opportunity spots and Daryl was great at taking photos for us, we also stopped in a little village and had sheep’s milk ice cream which we were a bit unsure of but you have to try it, it’s delicious! We also stopped at Sfentoni cave, the biggest in Crete, which we paid €10 for two adults to enter and included a guided tour which was a unique and exciting experience! We also had a lovely BBQ lunch with some traditional Greek starter dishes which were beautiful and at the start of the tour stopped to try some local bread with olive oil, honey and raki - the honey was that good I bought some to take home! Overall it was a genuinely fantastic experience and Daryl was absolutely amazing, thank you so much!

Do you do port pick ups for cruise ship passengers? Also, our cruise ship doesn't arrive until 9am.
Written 3 June 2023
Yes they pick up at cruise ship port. We did this in April 2023 as an excursion during our NCL cruise. They were flexible with the starting time and made sure we were back in plenty of time to get back on the ship. Highly recommend.

How come half your review was removed and you can't add it because Tripadvisor's edit page is down?
Didn't you mean to post: "We did this trip in June and had a fantastic time. Darrel was a friendly, informative and entertaining guide. The itinerary was exactly what I'd hoped, including a Roman aquaduct, vultures, the Diktean cave, a cheese maker, windmills, picturesque villages, and an ancient tree, with lunch served en route. It is a bumpy ride (nature of the historic tracks) and there is an easy/hard option on the way up to the cave - if you're half fit or less, take the easy route both ways. But this was a fantastic trip that has left us with super memories, and Darrel's role as a guide was central to that. We'd definitely look at going on a trip with this firm in future when we next come back to Crete, which will hopefully be next summer. :-)"

Dagmar Mundani

Hi
I want to book the landrover-safari for 4 persons the 8th of September and we would like to be picked up at the Blue Sea Beach hotel, but for some reason I also have to fill in the name of a cruiseship. Because we don't stay on a cruiseship and the safari is also not with a cruisship I was wondering what I should do with that option.
