- 378hanka0 contributionsGreat Food TourBabis out tour guide was amazing, he was very knowledge of all the areas as well as the history. I would highly recommend this company and tour. We have been on many tours in many locations and this is by far the best we have been on.Written 18 September 2024
- lizhQ219FB0 contributionsLovely Crete VillagesOur guide, Alex really made this tour a 5 Star with personal stories of his family’s experiences during WW2. Each village we visited we unique and beautiful. We literally ate our way thru the countryside with stops at a cheese shop, bakery and perfect local lunch spot. It was so nice to leave the tourist shopping areas and explore the lovely island of Crete.Written 15 September 2024
- DMRVA0 contributionsNice day visiting two family wineries.Very nice wine and olive oil production tour. Our guide Joana was informative and very friendly. The introductions of the wines at each winery was very good. We really enjoyed spending the day outside of Chania seeing the countryside. We enjoyed the tour very muchWritten 14 September 2024
- Ellen280 contributionsHighly recommended tour companyWe used this tour company for a carpe diem Crete day with our group of friends. They are super responsive and professional and helped us plot out our day. At the core, we needed to get from Elounda to Chania. Maria picked us up at hotel #1, took us to Knossos (where they retained a solid private guide) and then we had lunch/wine tasting at their recommended Dourakis winery (also lovely). It was a perfect vacation day. Maria was very kind and a safe driver. They also helped us do a boat day from Chania all around the southwest/west portion of the island - that experience was also a 10/10.Written 14 September 2024
- 119brennanc0 contributionsBest Tour EverMy family went on a custom tour that went from our hotel to the Kanakis Olive Mill, to the Dourakis Winery, to a small house at the top of a nearby hill for a cooking class in traditional Greek foods. Our driver, Bobby (hopefully spelt right) was very polite and extremely knowledgeable about the entirety of Cretan history. He guided us through everything perfectly and also showed us an interesting double church built out of the natural rock in a small, remote village, providing us with interesting facts the entire way. The cooking class was taught by a family which had an extensive history of their own, and Bobby translated for us and helped us through the entire thing, and you could tell that the family was very fond of him. I cannot recommend this enough, particularly if you are interested in Cretan history.Written 13 September 2024

- Rachel H0 contributionsWorth the moneyDon't be an idiot like me and make sure you check where you're staying before you book. This tour is on the western side of the island. I am staying on thr east and drove 3 hours to get here. Fun but long day. Now to the actual review, tour guide was great and knowledgeable, and the wineries we visited and the olive oil factory we visited were really cool to see and I quite enjoyed it. Lots of laughs and we got enough food in us so we didn't get drunk from all the wine lol. It's a beautiful landscape as well My favorite had to be the olive tree, I am a huge fan of ancient things so it made me very happy to see it. In all I would do this againWritten 6 September 2024
- davidkO9584DT0 contributionsHistorical knowledge is the key.We were going to be late( roadworks), rang them, they swapped pickup point.. no problem at all. Our guide Babis, was fantastic, his knowledge, maps, battle plans etc, were first class.. he bought it all to life , especially for me as my Grandfather had been there during the war. The visit to the collector with all his relics was pretty amazing. Recommended.Written 5 September 2024

- anastasiagV5090TF0 contributionsGreece 2024The tour guide was very knowledgable, worked at a great pace, and delivered an appropriate amount of information. She also gave options of things to do from a local perspective. Our driver was very friendly, punctual, offered great service to ensure we were comfortable, and also provided local “best spots”. Highly recommend!Written 4 September 2024
- BefromBe0 contributionsFantastic tour, fabulous guide! The tour in the small minivan through 7 villages in the Chania area was fantastic, exactly what I had hoped for as a solo traveler. Alex was a very thoughtful, excellent guide who gave us a lot of interesting information that allowed us to get a more detailed picture of the country and its people, their lives and customs. The trip was very relaxed and stress-free, and the breaks in between with delicious local food and drinks were very welcome. I can highly recommend the tour and Alex as a guide too - best wishes to him from Switzerland! Hopefully next year again :-)Written 2 September 2024
- debradY1838JB0 contributionsGreat experienceVery informative tour. Our tour guide, Alexander, was excellent, It was nice to learn about the history of the island. - eli3530 contributionsAmazing experienceA truly amazing and interesting experience about the WWII-history of Crete. Our guide Yannis was brilliant and knowledgable. Together with Yannis we had an incredible day visiting many different places where events took place during the invasion of Crete. We got the opportunity to see both cemeteries, bunkers and museums. All together with Yannis vivid storytelling about the events, we got a very deep understanding about the history and resistance of the Cretan people. Excellently planned day with a comfortable vehicle and a stop for a complimentary sandwiches and drinks included. Could not have been more satisfied with the day. Thank you!Written 29 August 2024
- Caleb1280 contributionsBattle for CreteBattle of Crete Small group in a comfy aircon Touran. Yannis our guide was incredibly knowledgable and easy going, making everyone feel relaxed at the beginning before going into more detail about the history we were there to learn more about. I not only learnt so much about the Battle of Crete but also about the modern history of Crete itself. We visited a bridge, airfield and hill to the west of Chania. At the hill, and after exploring a British built bunker, Yannis took us through folders of maps, setting the scene to the Battle before going into detail about the key people involved and some of their stories. We then moved onto the German cemetery, visited a local historian who’s collected thousands of artefacts from the Battle and occupation, before stopping at the 42nd Street Memorial and the Allied Cemetery in Souda Bay. It was a lot of information to process, but as someone who’s grandfather fought in the Battle it was incredibly interesting, moving, and thought provoking. I cannot thank Yannis enough for conveying brilliantly the Battle and occupation. A day I’ll always remember.Written 27 August 2024

The class was the most fun activity in Crete!!!
Our guide Yannis was the sweetest guide ever and he explained the history, culture, language, and weather of Crete.
The view from the house is amazing and it is a beautifully preserved traditional house.
Making food was so much fun and it tasted sooooooo good. I am def making them again when I go back.
The cook was super sweet and gave us home-made dessert and little kneaded hats for souvenirs.
They prepared three different wines, cheese, and nibbles and they were delicious.
I also think the price is more than reasonable considering that it includes transportation, a tour guide, cooks, ingredients, wine, cheese, and all snacks.
If you are in Chania, you really do not want to miss this unique opportunity.

Thanks to the GS Tours Chania Team for a great experience.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Our host was entertaining and interesting and provided a commentary on the way up the hill to the White Mountain home where the class was held. He explained the history and geography and all about the Cretan way of life. After a welcome drink we were introduced to the teacher and the owner of the house and began our class. The outdoor setting was excellent and we prepared a number of Cretan dishes before heading inside for a wine tasting. his description of the wines was great and we learnt about the way they make the traditional local red. We visited a small museum and he provided a short brief on the fascinating history of Crete.
We then sat down for dinner to eat the food that we had prepared which was served with a local Rose wine.
A very immersive experience where we learnt about Cretan culture, foo and history and how they are all wrapped up together to create the modern Crete.
Recommended for a fun afternoon/evening experience.

We loved this experience, our hosts were lovely and we learnt so much about Cretan culture and history as well as the hands on cookery experience. The location in the mountains is literally breathtaking. From pick up to drop off, every detail was the perfect combination of professional but also authentic and did not feel overly commercial, despite the fact this is of course an experience for tourists.
It was enjoyable spending time with people from other countries and Yannis, our guide was so proficient at switching between languages as he communicated with group members.
The final meal prepared by the group and cooked by the hosts was delicious and we look forward to re-creating the dishes at home as we have received the recipes via email.
Many thanks to Yannis for making this such a great experience for the whole group.

This cooking class was soul food. The polar opposite of the stay-at-home pandemic experience, as if trying to right a wrong. Our host, Ioannis, speaks excellent English, and is a veteran from the hospitality industry (as I found out later). In my 1.5 month travel thru Greece, I learnt about the famed Cretan hospitality and his hospitality stood out. Ioannis drove us from a spot just outside old town to the beautiful mountain home in an area coined by him as ‘Tuscany of Crete’. The class had a great ebb and flow of culinary activity and other experiences. I’d rather let it be a surprise for you. The space was clean and the program conducted efficiently and at a relaxing pace. Never a dull moment. My fellow cooks/tourists came from all walks of life, ethnicities, and countries.
Cons - please stop using plastic bottles for water. Lead the way for the Greek hospitality industry. I am still waiting to get the recipes. :)

This class is fantastic! It is more than just a cooking class. It included history, wine tastings, appetizers, feeding animals on the family farm, explanations of the homestead and and experience where you can see how Cretans really live/lived. This is a truly authentic experience in a beautiful setting in the Cretan countryside. It lasts about 7 hours including your transportation to and from the home, and it is worth every penny. They even send you home with some adorable parting gifts. I highly recommend this tour.

This was an excellent experience, and it went by too quickly! The program for the evening moved seamlessly between cooking lessons, lessons about Crete and the local culture, socializing while tasting the local wines, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings on a walk through the farm - and of course, eating the delicious meal at the end! Giannis the guide is informative and entertaining and has a real passion for what he does, and the two others on his staff who helped run the cooking class were also wonderful. The dishes we made were quite common Greek/Cretan dishes, and not complicated to prepare. However, the tour was much more than just the cooking component, and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a pleasant and educational evening with delicious food, a beautiful view, and good company.

It was an amazing experience! Very happy we got the opportunity to join.
We were welcomed by our driver and local guide who shared with us interesting facts about the island, the culture and its history, while making our way to the house of our hosts for the cooking lesson.
At the house we met a lovely couple and the wife's sister who helped us cook several dishes from Cretan cuisine. They were always smiling and made our experience very enjoyable from start to finish. At the end of the day, we all shared the meal and learnt about Crete's history. Needless to say, the food was absolutely delicious and copious! Our hosts brought raki and small desserts, and we even got a small gift for our visit.
I would definitely recommend taking the cooking lessons if you want to live the best possible experience on the island. Thank you so much!

We had an amazing time with Nikos and the family that welcomed us into their home!! If you’re looking for a great and authentic experience with Cretan locals, this is your tour. First off, you better come hungry because you’re are going to leave stuffed. This is coming from a couple that loves to eat.
During the tour we received a brief history lesson as we drove out of the city, we fed the family goats, prepared the meals before the family cooked them, had a wine and cheese tasting, received another history lesson and then feasted on the food we prepared with the family. All in all we tasted about 4-5 different wines and had about 7-9 different plates of different dishes. If this family did a different tour, we would’ve booked that tour had we had more time in Crete. Overall amazing experience, would book through them again if we come back to Crete.

We loved learning about Cretan cooking, history, and culture. Although the trip up to the small town took a little while, the views and experience were worth it. The cooking class felt intimate, and it was fun learning with others. I’d definitely recommend this experience!

Secondly, is a large group class possible?
Thank you.

Our class was about 15 to 20 pax. So if you manage to find some availability

Hi - I believe what we ate would have been fine for vegans - mainly vegetables and salad - but the cheese was goats cheese (not sure if that is vegan)?
The cook was so lovely if you ask your guide if you could cook something that would suit a vegan I'm sure he could translate and it would be accommodated.
Sorry can't be more helpful.
