Mount Kynthos, at 370 feet, is the Delos island's highest point
Aug 2019
One of the key reasons to see the Delos Excavation. However, only one of the Iions is an original. However, some of the real ones are in the museum on sight. It gives you a perspective on what it would have looked like coming to the island when there in their original position, then to see the ones in the museum brings it even more to life.
Delos is an island that is currently uninhabited and is mainly an archeological site . You can’t stay there , only the people that are workers stay on the island . You can get to it by Ferry from the island of Mykonos. In June 2019, we left the old port in the afternoon because we missed the 10am boat.
Don't forget to bring sun block, a hat (there are very few shady places), and water! If you run out of water, inside the museum they give away a bottle of water per person. It takes about 4 hours to tour the island (including the guided tour). Take hiking shoes since there is a nice hike uphill were you can get a fabulous view . Mount Kynthos, at 370 feet, is the island's highest point. Up there, are remains of the Temple of Zeus and Athena. To ancient Greeks, this peak seems to look like the spot from which Poseidon had pulled the island up from the deep. Two warnings: bathing and pets are not allowed on the island.

Knowledgable guide but could have given more information about where to meet tour operator. Old port Mykonos was not helpful since we initially thought the port the bus from ship brought us to was the old port and their was no one to ask

Take sunscreen and water
Sep 2019
This is fairly well organised although you do have to pay an extra 20 euros for a one way pick up ( along with another possible 10 people) despite it stating in the info that you are returned to your pick up point. We were instructed wher to go once we were dropped off at the old town and had to queue for our tickets and the ferry was very crowded. On arrival at Delos you are divided into groups which are group numbered so you get your own language speaking guide. He was very good and knowledgeable. We stopped for a short break at the museum and were given free water then continued the tour. The tour takes about 2 hours and there is no shade other than the stop at the museum so make sure you take water, sunscreen, a hat and suitable clothing. There is also a small gift shop but not much to offer however what we saw was reasonably priced. The ferries stop running between 1.30 and 3.30 so make sure you don’t miss this ferry as there is noth8ng else to do.
