Money Well Spent!
Jun 2021
We were picked up at our hotel by a comfortable, air conditioned mini bus and driven up the coast and then through the beautiful olive grove lined roads to the little village of Gastouri and the Achillion Palace.

In the grounds of the palace there is an explosion of colour with beautiful Bougainvillea, Pergolas and Cyprus trees. There are statues of Greek mythological figures, the likes of Zeus, Hera and Achilles – in the throes of death - and tremendous view over the island towards the Capital.

Inside the Achillion Palace itself was jaw dropping with ceiling frescos, artwork and furnishings dating back to the Palace’s construction. I particularly liked the fact that there were personal items of Empress Elizabeth’s to look at and we learned a lot of fascinating history from the free audio guide.

We then took a short drive to the hill of Kanoni where there are stunning views of the tiny island of Pontokanisi (Mouse Island) and the quaint little whitewashed Vlacherna monastery which is set in very pretty surroundings. It is also very near to the airport so if you’re lucky (which we were) you can watch a plane or two roaring in right overhead!

After these stunning scenes we were then taken to Corfu Old Town and left to our own devices for a couple of hours to explore the narrow winding streets leading down to the sea. From here you can see both the old and new fortresses which are very well maintained.

You can pick up souvenirs from the tiny shops that fill the cobbled Venetian inspired streets and visit the majestic Church of Saint Spyridon (with the highest bell tower on the Ionian Islands).

We then had a coffee and a bite to eat in lovely restaurant before making our way for a stroll around the enormous Spianada Square (the largest square in Greece!) which is a very picturesque space with crafted trees, lawn and monuments.

All too soon it was time to depart back to our hotel taking our glorious memories of the day with us.

We would definitely do this again – money well spent!

Exceptional
Sep 2020
We booked a half day private guided tour around Corfu Town and to the Achillion Palace. Making the reservation online was easy and we could tailor our experience to what we wanted to see and do.
The taxi arrived at our hotel on time. The car was clean both inside and out. Our guide, Spiros, spoke very good English, and although it is not his first language, he was polite enough to laugh at my husband’s very bad jokes. The architecture in Corfu Town is stunning. As we requested we visited the Museum of Asian Art, the Old Fortress and found time to stop at the Liston for ouzo and meze.
The Achillion Palace is stunning and our arrival was timed to coincide with the departure of the big tour groups, excellent planning by Corfutrips.

I would recommend having a guide. It is a bit more expensive but very well worth it as Spiros was very knowledgeable and made the tour far more interesting and memorable than if we had just visited these places by ourselves.
