- indyd20170 contributionsWonderful UNESCO tour sites at ThessalonikiEfi is very professional and we covered a lot during our 4 hour tour. Visited several unesco sites , monastery , churches, city wall . We even enjoyed delicious triangle cream sweets exclusive to this area. Efi also was kind enough to assist with our transport to airport for the next day. Thank you.Written 28 May 2024
- 937lianneb0 contributionsFantastic tour!Efi was an amazing tour guide! So much knowledge and engaging personality. She asked us what we would like to emphasize in our tour, and accommodated our interests. She was friendly and shared lots of stories as well! highly recommend!Written 30 April 2024
- Shanxi_Dave0 contributionsInteresting and Relaxed Walking Tour of Thessaloniki with a Superb GuideResponsive and knowledgeable guide Efi made the history of Thessaloniki come alive for us. Promptly met our party of six as we debarked from our cruise ship and allowed group members to ask dozens of questions as we toured--especially about the Jewish history of Thessaloniki.Written 10 April 2024
- ZaviBeth0 contributionsEfi is amazing! We had a fabulous tour!Wow! What can I say? Efi was an amazing guide. We were a party of 6 , visiting Thessaloniki for 2 days and all interested in the rich history of the Jewish people who were once the majority in Thessaloniki. The tour began at the Holocaust memorial, commemorating the 50,000 Jews from Thessaloniki who perished in the Holocaust. Efi took us through the streets, sharing her incredible knowledge, insights, stories and tales. Her warm and engaging manner, coupled with the detailed information she shared, made for an amazing few hours. The synagogues and Jewish museum were closed that day. Efi had advised us of that when we pre booked the tour, as it was a special day - an annual Never Again march (and speeches) commemorating the day the first train left Thessaonkibto Aushwitz. Our tour finished in time to join the march. At the end of the tour, Efi gave us a book she had written and I can’t wait to read it. We have booked many tours on our many travels and Efi was amongst the very best tour guides! I would give her ten stars!Written 27 March 2024
- L4957CBdavidg0 contributionsEfi is fantastic! My wife, Kathleen, and I visited Greece for the first time last month. After doing some research on the web, I came across Efi Kalampoukidou, and read many wonderful reviews. I then contacted Efi to let her know we were interested in tracing Paul's missionary travels and learning about the Jewish history of Greece. Though Efi is based in Thessaloniki, she helped us with everything we wanted and needed for our time in Greece – tour guides, ground transportation, and very helpful recommendations. The three days we had her as our guide in Northern Greece were fantastic. And the guides we had in Southern Greece all know Efi and respect her. Efi is personable, responsible, knowledge, sensitive to the needs and desires of those in her care and treated us like family. If you are ever interested in touring Greece, Efi is the guide you want. - V7603MQkarenb0 contributionsGreat walking tour of ThessalonikiReally enjoyed the Tour with Efi. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and took us to some places that I am sure we would have missed on our own. Thoroughly recommend.Written 1 September 2023
- Cindy H0 contributionsGreat guide and awesome tour of Jewish ThessalonikiEfi took us on a Jewish tour of Thessaloniki and was an excellent and extremely knowledgeable guide. We got to both see the sights and learn about the rich history of the Jews in Thessaloniki and their fate in the second world war as well as modern Jewry in Thessaloniki (including a trip through the market!). She was considerate about the weather and pace. We highly recommend Efi as a tour guided and this particular tour.Written 24 August 2023
- Robert D0 contributionsExpert guide to ThessalonikiAfter reading some rave reviews of Efi, we were fortunate enough to book her directly for a day long tour of Thessaloniki and the Royal Tombs of Vergina with our two 16 year old granddaughters. We specifically contacted Efi after reading reviews about her expertise relating to the Jewish Heritage of Thessaloniki. We were not disappointed and came away with a great deal of knowledge about a part of history that is unfortunately little known by most people. As a native of this area, Efi was able to give us first hand insights about the history and culture of this region of Greece that is “off the beaten path” for most visitors to Greece. We concluded our day with a fascinating tour of the relatively recently discovered and opened Royal Tombs of Vergina, which is almost as amazing as the tomb of King Tut in Egypt. You can book Efi directly on her web site:Efiguide.com.Written 22 August 2023
- roset5550 contributionsA kaleidoscope of the history of the Jews of ThessalonikaI went on a private guided Jewish Heritage Tour of Thessalonika today. My private guide, Efi, was not only a wealth of knowledge, but she was able to show me a kaleidoscope of the long history of the Jews of Salonika. She was very patient and inspirational as she explained the history of her people. (I could never have learned all that she was able to share with me from a book.) As we visited each site and each monument, she .made the history of thdeJews of Thessalonika come alive. I highly recommend Efi for her expertise and for having madde my visit to Thessaloniks that much richer. Thank you, Efi!Written 1 August 2023
- Todd F0 contributionsTragic history of Jewlsh life in GreeceAbsolutely fascinating. Eli was passionate about the content and clearly a subject matter expert. If Jewish history in Greece interests you, there can be no better experience.Written 19 July 2023
- V2172BNruthl0 contributionsExcellent historical tour of ThessalonikiEfi was a very helpful, friendly and knowledgable guide who went out of her way to make sure that we felt welcome upon our arrival in Thessaloniki. You definitely get the feeling that she has a passion for history and loves her city. Highly recommended!Written 18 July 2023
- Nomad392664034100 contributionsThorough and Interesting tour of Jewish ThessalonikiVicky gave us an excellent tour of the relevant Jewish sites as well as some of the sites of general interest. She is very knowledgeable about the Jewish history of Thessaloniki and was able to place all of our surroundings in the context of the rich and (ultimately) tragic Jewish history of the area. It was also fascinating to hear her perspective on the state of past and present Jewish life as a native Christian from the area. This was a very worthwhile experience.Written 18 June 2023
- katesN708TA0 contributionsThessaloniki from a native's educated perspectiveMy husband and I (able-bodied and in our mid-60's) greatly appreciated Efi's experienced approach to showing her city and her country to interested visitors. My husband and Efi exchanged a number of emails to let her know what our particular interests were. I think that pre-tour conversation was helpful. We took two tours with Efi. The first was a 4 (or 5?) hour walking tour of Thessaloniki. We were interested in local Jewish history as well as learning about many of the other peoples and cultures who have made Thessaloniki such a mosaic. So our walking tour reflected that interest as well as visiting Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman sites. I never felt like we were going too fast or too slow. This tour was not only informative historically, but it also helped us get oriented to where the open air markets and great restaurants are. It made the rest of our stay (a week) in the city easier. Efi is very extremely knowledgeable, delivers information at a manageable pace, answers questions and was attentive to our comfort (stopping for food, coffee and bathroom breaks. She is enthusiastic about helping people connect with the region, the people and the incredible cuisine! Next, Efi took us to Virgina (a 6 hour tour with a driver) where we visited Phillip II's (and other ancients) excellently excavated burial grounds and the recently opened museum. We had time for conversation about the ancient history and current significance of this region as we drove there and back. I really loved our week in Thessaloniki and I believe Efi contributed to that experience. We would be happy to go on another tour with her (maybe Meteora? maybe Komotini?) when we are lucky enough to return to Greece!Written 21 April 2023
- conformist700 contributionsA glimpse into a vanished worldI would recommend Efi as a guide to the remarkable, tragic, and inspiring history of Jewish Thessaloniki. She is friendly, hugely informative, and obviously devoted to ensuring that her clients have a good experience. We visited both synagogues, the Jewish museum, and the holocaust memorial. I found the museum particularly impressive and moving. She is a mine of information not only about the subject of the tour but also about Thessaloniki in general. I endorse the other positive reviews here and recommend her tour to anyone who is visiting this fascinating city.Written 2 April 2023
- stacy5580 contributionsInformative and Meaningful TourWe were very happy to have done the Jewish history walking tour with Efi. Efi has enormous knowledge of Thessaloniki in general and also of the Jewish community. She guided us through two synagogues and the Jewish museum. She gave us an understanding of the community and its history without overwhelming us with every detail and fact. She was able to cater the tour to some specific timing requests we had and kept us and the tour on schedule. Because of our own constraints, we did not do the full 4 hours with Efi but I'd so like to know what else she would have shared with us if we could have. Efi also followed up with us later to check how we were getting on with our flights home as there were flight issues and offered to help us find last minute accommodations if needed. We would gladly do another tour with Efi.Written 28 March 2023
