    Korouoma Canyon
Stop: 3 hours - Admission included
See picturesque frozen waterfalls in Korouoma National Park and join us for a guided hike through wintery Finnish landscapes. If you ever wanted to visit a frozen kingdom, this is your time! The Korouoma National Park looks beautiful in winter, and it's a perfect place to relax, recharge, and reset. We will start our winter hike with a hotel pick up. Korouoma National Park is located in the municipality of Posio, and it spreads for 30 km. In addition to the snowglobe-like scenery, there are massive frozen waterfalls that will make you feel like you are in a fairytale. The hike is moderate, but you will need to dress up in warm clothes, sturdy shoes and to be prepared for a unique experience. Don't forget to bring your camera, because Korouoma Canyon in winter looks like it's out of this world. The hike is 4.5 km long, and we will follow the official park trail. In the middle of our journey we will stop to rest at the camp.

The scenery that we came across during the hike was no doubt beautiful. The trail was manageable, though slippery at certain icy paths. Alex was attentive and helpful in cautioning and assisting us throughout. He took great care of our group, and also kept with high standards of hygiene when preparing and barbecuing the food for us during the camp fire.

Prior to the hike, we had checked out from our apartment with our luggage, and were grateful when Alex allowed us leave them in his vehicle for the hike. What came beyond that was when he was flexible to drop us at the central train station after the hike to deposit the luggage, and gave us a ride back to the city centre for some final shopping before we left Rovaniemi later in the evening by train.

Thank you so much!

Definitely one of the best activities during my trip to Finland. It is a challenging hike with highs and lows, and occasionally sliding down, fun guaranteed! There are 3 frozen waterfalls on the trail, which are extremely visible and which you can get close to if you have a good condition. Our guide Alex told various fun facts about nature and the waterfalls during the walk and is open to also taking pictures of his guests. At the last waterfall, you get some free time, while he walks a little further to light the fire and fry the sausages, very cozy! Highly recommended to see the natural beauty of Finland.

The hike was great fun - the scenery along the 5km hike was amazing. There were some parts that were a bit slippery but the 'problem' could be avoided by sitting & sliding down the path, which added to the fun. Alex was very nice, help and knowledgable. Appreciated the little BBQ we had by the campfire, with sausages, marshmallows and some glögi to recharge our energy before the last stretch of uphill hike back to the carpark. I would definitely recommend this tour with Alex!

Great day at the Korouoma National Park. We were picked up at our hotel by Alex, who has a really nice chap and a fantastic guide. The Park is awesome in the winter, but the trail is not for the heart fainted, with plenty of slopes and slippery surfaces, but with the help Alex, who was great, everything was easy. Nice stop for lunch, with grilled sausages and other treats. We were a small group, so we had the chance to enjoy some really great sights of frozen waterfalls in this awesome place.

We enjoyed drive to Korouma. It was all amazingly white on arrival. Walked through snow covered trees till we reached the frozen waterfalls. Had a great time walking in the white scenery of the forest. Simply winter wonderland . Even had some drinks and sausages. Thanks to Alex our guide .

I honestly think the tour guide makes or breaks any tour. In this case this tour was made even perfect by our guide. He was on time, always informing us of what is happening and made the tour fun and informative. He gave us options and made sure we are okay all the time. The tour itself is amazing! Don’t sell yourself short. Go for the longer walk. Yes its harder specially in the snow but it’s honestly worth it. I personally would not suggest you try to do this tour on your own. First its a 90 minute drive each way on icy roads. Unless you know the park well you can get into trouble going the wrong way and walking on the deep holes. It’s definitely a highlight of our trip to Rovaniemi!

What a Beautiful landscape, to see frozen waterfalls was breath taking. We took the small tour 2km, as I took my 2 children (11- boy & 14 -girl) They really enjoyed it, but the 11 yr old towards the end got bored, and cold. We also had a break after seeing the 3rd and final waterfall, where we chopped wood, & made a camp fire, so we could BBQ sausages for lunch with a hot chocolate, and Marshmallows. Marshmallows went down well with the children. There is some steep track, but has some rope to hold on too. if you step of the beaten track the snow can be deep, and slippy, so do this with caution.
The guide pick us up from our hotel , and dropped us back, He was pleasant, but quite happy to answer question, but didn't really engage in general conversation.
My Only Tip is make sure you use the toilet at the petrol station stop, as in the forest you have to use a dry hole.
The trip from the Rovaniemi is just over an hour, you are hiking for about an hour and half, and stop for lunch for about an hour. Total time for the trip is about 5 hrs.

We went to Korouoma National Park to see the frozen waterfalls. It was 5km hiking ( if you are not used hiking, i would recommend the smaller tour) but it was worth it!
The views are very beautiful, you are really walking into a winter wonderland.
We also visited the reindeer farm with Alex and it was just lovely!
Alex is very kind, he tells you stories about the farmers, the animals, ... with a cup of coffee.
And then of course you have the reindeers. You can feed them, take pictures, a small ride in the forest.. one word AMAZING! Don't hesitate, just do it!
