About
Join us and experience the quiet and magical winter forest and freezing waters of the archipelago. A walk along the frozen coast highlights why Finland is one of the best outdoor destinations year-round. This half-day excursion starts from Helsinki and takes you to the Porkkala peninsula. Following the frozen forest trails of the archipelago, we will pass by gnarled pines and tall spruces to the beautifully desolate and cold Baltic Sea. Your guide will make a fire in a nearby wilderness shelter and prepare a warm lunch while you have time to freely explore the surrounding area, takes photos and find your own peace in nature. The excursion is exclusive since the group size never exceeds 8 persons. Highlights: • Lookout points of breathtaking archipelago scenery • Amazing photographing opportunities • Easy walk designed for all levels of fitness • Campfire lunch and coffee/tea with a seaside view

When Taiga Times contacted me to say I was the only one booked for the day, I was worried I would be stuck making small talk with an old Finnish guy all day! But Jeff is neither, and he was warm and friendly from the moment he picked me up. Jeff is very knowledgeable and engaging, talking about a wide range of subjects - even when I went off topic and asked about Finnish folklore he was happy to discuss. Lunch is a great touch, and it feels so authentic. You really are in the wilderness, it was so peaceful and the location is stunning. I highly recommend this tour, and Taiga Times, for anyone that wants to get out of the city and do something a little bit different.

I was lucky enough to get a one-on-one tour of Porkkalanniemi with the tour guide Jeff! He was kind enough to offer to pick me up from my hotel (and drop me off at a part of Helsinki I had wanted to explore post-tour), which really made things easier on me.

Had I not gone on the Taiga Times tour, I probably wouldn't have seen the beautiful, nature-y side of Finland. Jeff is very knowledgeable about plant and animal life in this area, and was more than patient when answering my questions about Finnish life and culture in general. Not to mention, the lunch he cooked for us was quite delicious!

It was a fun walking tour of the forest on the archipelago - we even saw deer on our way up to the nature park! I definitely wanted to tour somewhere a bit off the beaten track and got my wish. If you're looking for a more personal experience in your next excursion, I highly recommend any of the experiences offered by Taiga Times! Thank you for a beautiful time!
