- JakeLovesPlaces0 contributionsAmaxing visitFredrick really made our experience! Great trip and a great guide ! The day was very well organised and the pick-up had no issuesWritten 14 January 2025

- sociauxling0 contributionsMost tiring tour! But loved seeing the South Coast!Had a fine time on this tour! Was incredibly long (started at 7am and was back at 10pm) but was worth it to see more of Iceland from Reykjavik. Definitely the most awkward tour to be a solo traveler on though. I kept forgetting what the bus looked like since it was just white with no other logo on it, so it was a bit stressful to remember where it was parked. And tour guide was somewhat transparent about the schedule but most of it was a surprise. Super happy we made it back to Vik in time for dinner though, got to try the famed Black crust pizza!Written 10 January 2025

- MalaDC0 contributionsPERFECTI heard a lot of hype about Glacier Lagoon but was wary of taking such a long day trip. When I read so many other reviews saying the "16 hours" flew by, I thought there's absolutely no way that can be true no matter how good the tour is. But let me tell you that this was absolutely the case! This was the first tour I took in Iceland, and it was by far the best. I cannot imagine a better way to experience these sights when based in Reykjavik and there's honestly not one thing that could have made the tour better. The van was comfortable and had usb chargers. Although the bathroom stops were a *little* spread out for me, I ended up feeling that way my entire time in Iceland, it's just a really big country 😅 And the length of the tour meant that we actually had adequate time to see and walk around each stop (this was a huge difference and highlight compared to any other tours I took). On the day of the tour, there was also the option to add a boat ride at glacier lagoon which was definitely worth it! All in all I cannot recommend this tour enough!!Written 3 December 2024
- juliacO9292OP0 contributionsGreat timeThe guide Rakel was friendly and informative and told us so many stories and made the tour great. I learned a lot. The perfect amount of time at each stop and we did an extra few stops too.Written 21 November 2024
- 734billiejeanc0 contributionsComfortable and safeWe chose this tour over similar ones with a larger group on a coach. I'm glad we paid extra and enjoyed a small tour which felt comfortable and safe. The day was enjoyable and we saw everything we had hoped to see, plus a little extra. Special thanks to our guide who took extra time to help me with some health needs, much appreciated.Written 12 November 2024

- paullS4638NO0 contributionsAmazing Experinence! We had an amazing tour. We loved the insights they brought about the history, customs, culture and language. The guides are personable and take time to answer questions. We loved the commentary as we drove on the bus. There was always something going on. The tour route to the hot pools, Þingvellir, goðafoss, and countryside was beautiful and memories will last forever. You will not be disappointed.Written 24 September 2024
- 923lanan0 contributionsGreat tour and guideThis tour is not a full day tour and allows for drop offs at the Blue Lagoon and airport which has many advantages for those not wanting to return to Reykjavik. While our tour guide Starry covered information about the sites we visited, he also provided contemporary and historical political and cultural commentary which added a lot to the tour. The highlight was learning about his anicent lineage and family literary traditions dating back to the ninth century. In the US, many of us can cite family history no further back than our great grandparents so I was in awe of his heritage. If you are interested in Icelandic history as well as the stunning geographic sites, I definitely recommend the Geopark tour with this guide.Written 15 September 2024

- sheerheartattack0 contributionsAsk before you goThe tour itself was great, the van size nice. One main issue I had was the logistics & crowds. To begin with the communication was poor. #1 the pick up location is not by the ship, it's 1/4 miles away, no direction given! Had it not been for another private bus guide, we'd have missed the tour! #2. The pick up zone is a disaster! 50+ companies lined up in lanes pulling up and out, and our bus was nowhere to be found. My friend & i walked all over asking each company "are you our van?" The name of the company on my receipt didn't match the bus company. It was a sh_ _t show. Our van had a tiny 8x 12 sign in the front left corner of dashboard. #3. Be aware, mid summer is not the time to visit Iceland due to crowds! Yes we too are part of the "crowd " however it was a nightmare. This has zero to do with with the tour, but the result of bus after bus, there was a traffic jam at every stop. Best bet, go in May or September. I've seen the same thing in Alaska with 5-6 ships in port.......avoid at all costs. #4. Overall tour was great & price was right.Written 26 August 2024

My daughter and I did three tours with this wonderful company while visiting Iceland. Everything about Gateway Tours was outstanding. My initial contact was months before my trip when the owner answered each of my emails promptly. These are van tours, not big buses, so the tour is more personalized. The guides were the best part, very knowledgeable, great presentation and overall fun. We saw so much of Iceland and learned so much history (and saw the Northern Lights) something we would never have been able to do on our own. I highly recommended this tour company and it’s most kind and considerate owner.

Booked the trip with GTI because we wanted to see the area without renting a car ourselves and it was so worth it! The bus size was small and cozy which made for a great ride and our tour guide was an absolute joy, you could tell this was someone who loved and appreciated the nature here. The tour covered so many different locations and sights that it was hard to predict what you would see next, we even went to a seal bay where we could walk up to them with only a few meters between us!
We would highly recommend this trip if you want to see as much as possible, this area has so many things to see and this is the best way to do it.

We had the most fantastic time with this company! Mr. Sigurdsson and Mr. Dooly were terrific guides. The love they have for their beautiful country really shaped our experience into a very positive one. We fully intend to utilize their company to see the Northern Lights.

The weather forecast for the day was not good and it turned even worse than forecasted. Thanks to Ian's expert driving skills, we experienced a seriously unforgettable adventure! The rough weather greatly limited seeing the sights as scheduled. However, we did get to experience the raging beauty of Snaefellsnes Peninsula in full glory. Thank you for the adventure and safe landing, Ian!

Had an excellent day with Dooley. This was my third tour with Gateway to Iceland. All have been excellent. All the tours are extremely well organized. The small-group format reduces the drop off/pick-up time and also creates the opportunity to ask more questions.
The National park is beautiful. Dooley is an excellent story-teller. Despite a gray, rainy day he still made sure everyone had a great time.
Highly recommend any tour on Gateway to Iceland!

We loved our tour around Snaefellness. It was a wonderful way to see one part of the country! Our guide Dooly shared with us some history of the island as we travelled. One of our most memorable things was stopping along the side of the road for fresh glacial water flowing down into a stream! So refreshing! Our fish and chips at the lunch stop was delicious and the sights, oh so wonderful. We didn't get to stop at he Balck church as a lot of groups headed out at once, but we did arrive back early so that is one small thing I would have asked to stop at even if it was busy. Definitely recommend going to Snaefellness!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review and delighted you enjoyed Snæfellsnes, it is such a magical part of the country. We always try to accommodate everyone's needs and the benefit of only operating small groups is we can be more flexible so if you decide to visit us again I hope you will let the driver know, even if a planned stop is busy, if you wish to visit.
Thank you for the recommendation and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland.

A great tour. Spectacular scenery with a knowledgeable and entertaining guide who knew the local history of the area, and was also able to personalize with first hand experiences. We had fantastic (almost miraculous) weather. Even the clouds atop Snæfellsjökull cleared at exactly the right moment. Would highly recommend this tour at any time, but especially when the road to Djúpalónssandur is open (not in the dead of winter), as this beach is a real highlight.

Advertised 11-12 hours, but was exactly 9 hours. We were picked up close to 9 am and dropped off at 6. I was aware that the beach stop would not happen in the winter time; not sure if that explains the 2-3 hours. Seems like a lot shorter than advertised, for the same price. This part didn’t seem right.
The tour was excellent. Scenery was beautiful, and each stop was just the right amount of time. Tour guide provided great info, was friendly, and spoke slowly and with very clear English. Lunch stop at a cafe had 6 options, about $20-30 USD in price, and food was tasty; good service.

Hae Thisis,
Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the tour!
Regarding the shorter duration, this can be due it being a smaller group (with less waiting for people to get together), as well as poor weather (making stops unaccessible) but in any case, it should amount to such a long time. We will definitely look into it!
Best regards

I took the tour of Snæfellsnes with the tour guide of Stefán. All I can say is "Wow!" Not only was this whole entire tour gorgeous scenes from out of a movie or an actual post card, but it helped very much that our guide was so knowledgeable. Being a native Icelander, Stefán really knew what he was talking about and you can tell that he spoke about Iceland with pride. This made the whole Iceland experience way different and better than just going on your own or trying to teach yourself. I learned so much about Iceland, it's history, and what I was looking at on the tour. Traveling with knowledge is so different than just going sight seeing. I would have never been able to have such a good and knowledgeable experience if it was not for Gateway to Iceland tour company and their educated staff. They include everything that there is to expect before the tour, very straight forward business, friendly staff, understanding, reliable and most of all, professional. Snæfellsnes is such a magical part of Iceland. Don't miss our on it's beauty, and take this tour with Gateway to Iceland. You will definitely get the best out of your trip to Iceland with this tour company, you won't regret it! Thank you Stefán and thank you Gateway to Iceland for this experience and amazing memories. Would highly recommend them to all my family and friends. Will definitely be using you guys again next time! :)

Two of our tours were cancelled due to extreme weather but my family was fortunate enough to be able to book two tours with Gateway to Iceland at the last minute, Raykjanes and Snaefellsnes. David was our guide for both tours and he was an exceptional guide - so funny and so knowledgeable about the fascinating country of Iceland! We actually booked the Snaefellsnes tour because we were able to be in David's group again. Both peninsulas were amazingly beautiful and David was passionate about showing us the best sights while keeping us safe. Iceland is an amazing country and I would highly recommend this company to see the sights!

The ones I was on were not. Even if you could get the wheelchair onto the small bus, the terrain was uneven in a lot of the places, not easily navigable. These are wild places. At Golden Falls for example, the only rest facilities are at the top of a big set of wooden stairs going up a small cliff. Suggest you contact the tour providers directly and see what they say.

Hi!
I am planning a trip in mid December and would like to take this tour. Does the weather have any limitations/impact to the tour? Are there any 'black-out' dates? Are trips cancelled based on weather?
Written 19 November 2018
Iceland day tours are routinely cancelled due to bad weather. Cloudy , rainy nights cancelled all the northern lights tours when I was there in February, and I had booked an 11 hour day tour of southern I eland that also got cancelled due to stormy weather. Cancellation was done the day before the tour. It is impossible for tour directors to know days or weeks in advance when there will be cloudless skies or no storm activity. Light rain does not cancel a tour.
