Small-Group Golden Circle and Kerid Volcanic Crater Day Trip from Reykjavik

Overview
If you only have time for one day tour while in Reykjavik, make it a journey around the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular sightseeing route. This full-day small-group tour checks off all the famous highlights such as Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geyser, and Gullfoss waterfall, as well as visiting the spectacular Kerid Crater Lake.
What to Expect
After being picked up from your central Reykjavik hotel, meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 people, and head north to explore the popular Golden Circle sightseeing route.

Kick off your adventure with an attraction often left off Golden Circle tour itineraries – the magnificent Kerid Crater Lake. Gaze out over the dramatic volcanic crater, which measures an impressive 886-foot (270-meters) wide and 180-foot (55-meters) deep, and marvel at the glittering crater lake at its heart.

After taking plenty of photos, jump back in the bus and continue to the Thingvellir National park, where you’ll get the rare opportunity to walk right on the meeting point of the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Learn about the shifting of the plates and their influence on Iceland’s volatile volcanic landscapes from your guide as you admire the views, then hear more about Iceland’s history as you visit the site of the world’s first parliament.

After a break for lunch (own expense), the photo-worthy landscapes continue, as you stop by the Geysir geothermal area to see geysers including Strokkur and Geysir, the geyser after which all others are named. Stick around long enough to watch the Strokkur geyser erupt (around every 10 minutes), spurting a column of water up to 98 foot (30 meters) in the air.

Make a final stop at the mighty Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most visited sights, before returning to Reykjavik, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

I had read excellent reviews of this tour and have to say it lived up to our expectations. The tour took in all the main sights and each was only a relatively small distance from the last stop. We took the tour on Wednesday 25th...More

Take the tour - it's more than the views, it's the incredible history of Iceland as well.

Booked this through Guide to Iceland. Opted for the City Hall pick-up location which was so easy. Our driver, Andre, was fantastic. We don't normally take tours when we travel but are glad we did this one. It was a full day of amazing visuals...More

A comfortable trip with all you "must see" on Iceland on one day

We started at the hotel in the morning and went in a small bus around Tingvalla, Kerid volcanic lake, the geyser Stokkur, Gullfossen and finished in Blue Lagoon. The bus driver told us about Icelandic history and anecdotes about the places we visited or just...More

It was a full day. The same tour company does off shorter versions of the Golden Circle though I think. Like a half- day maybe? But you wouldn’t have much time at any one place which is a shame!
