What to expect
Depart your Reykjavik hotel by air-conditioned vehicle, and with your small group of no more than 15 travelers, venture northwest toward the Snaefellsnes peninsula. On route, hear about this scenic peninsula, dubbed ‘Iceland in miniature’ for its geological variety. Steeped in folklore, it consists of sheer cliffs, sandy beaches, volcanic mountains, fjords, and quaint villages, and is crowned by the Snaefellsjökull volcano. On arrival, admire the vast, snow-capped Snaefellsjökull, the region’s highest peak, and learn how it was chosen by Jules Verne as the entrance to the earth’s core in his novel, 'A Journey to the Centre of the Earth.' Next, visit Ytri-Tunga, where a farmstead overlooks a sand-and-shingle beach that’s home to seal colonies. View the seals, and then continue to Hellnar and Arnarstapi, two coastal villages framed by lush fields, basalt cliffs, and pyramid-shaped Mt. Stapafell. Here, stroll the clifftops to enjoy the scenery and sea air, viewing the rock formations and Arnarstapi’s natural harbor. Plus, see the two coastal basalt pillars of Lóndrangar and head to Djupalonssandur black beach where the sounds of seabirds and roaring waves fill the air. Here, check out Djupalonssandur’s famous ‘lifting stones:’ four boulders of different sizes. Named after their weights—fullsterkur (full-strength) at 340 pounds (154kg); hallfsterkur (half-strength) at 220 pounds (100kgs); hallfdraettingur (weakling) at 119 pounds (54kgs); and amlooi (useless), at 50 pounds (23kgs)—the stones were once used to gauge the strength of fishermen. To earn a place on local boats, they were expected to lift the hallfdraettingur—anything less, and they weren’t strong enough. If you wish, try your strength on the stones, and then stop at Kirkjufell, a cone-shaped 1,519-foot (463-meter) mountain that’s one of Iceland’s most photographed spots. Hop out for pictures of this fairytale-like mountain, whose base is skirted by trickling rivers, lush pastures, and sandy beaches. Finally, return to Reykjavik where your tour concludes at the original starting point.

David is the man, great, great tour
Mar 2021
David is a genius. This dude knows everything about everything, not just the mountains, rock formations and volcanoes you'll see on the tour, but every single possible thing that you can think of.

Honestly, the tour was spectacular. We had so much fun. By the end of the tour, David was more a friend than a driver. His driving is great, communication skills on point, knowledge extensive and humor dark :)

The tour started at 8:30, he was there at 8:30. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

Small group Snaesfellsnes Peninsula Tour
Mar 2020
Mark was our guide for the Snaesfellsnes Peninsula Tour and was excellent! On our last stop, our bus got stuck in the snow. Two other tour buses came by (different tour company) and worked with Mark to get us out. It took 1-1/2 hrs. but they got us out and on our way. If he was flustered, he never let us see it; he just kept working diligently on the task at hand. It was an excellent day!

Thank you also for your patiance, the Icelandic winter weather can sometimes be a challenge but our guides are of course used to dealing with this and in Iceland we all help each other in such situations. We hope to see you soon here in Iceland again.

Beautiful Day Tour!
Feb 2020 • Couples
This tour to the Snaefelsnes peninsula was amazing! Our guide Thor was entertaining and gave us so much info on the Icelandic culture. We saw so many beautiful sights.... waterfalls, rugged coastlines, gorgeous beaches with lava rocks/black sand. We stopped for a tasty lunch in a small village. Also.... I left my gloves in the van at the end of the trip.... and they were returned to my hotel! Now, that’s what you call a “Nice” company! I highly recommend this trip!

Snæfellsnes day tour
Sep 2019
Customer service is best. The driver was very nice. however, I would expect to receive more information about the country and sites and transfer it in a clear way. Also, during the long driving the music in the vehicle- songs were all in English I would expect to listen to local music while travelling in Iceland.

Brilliant Tour
Dec 2019
We were collected by our Guide /Driver Einar who was absolutely brilliant. There were only 6 of us on the tour which was great. Einar imparted amazing information all the way along which made the whole trip so much more interesting. The scenery whilst being very stark was fantastic and wonderful photographic opportunities. We were lucky that we had the most perfect weather even though it was about -3 degrees but the mini-bus was warm and comfortable. Einar gave us more than enough time at each of the attractions and accompanied us as well which was also a bonus. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great day out
Fun day out...not too long either, compared to some of the others we did. Loads of comfort breaks which was appreciated.
Loads to see although the geyser visit was disappointing as they don’t tell you anywhere that the big geyser hasn’t blown for years! But worth the visit all the same...got a great video of it blowing, which it does every 5 minutes or so. The waterfalls in the whole of Iceland are fantastic and the ones on this visit didn’t disappoint. The scenery is spectacular.
Our negatives would that the “secret lagoon” was pointless really...not that secret and who wants to have a bath with 100s of other people, but better than the blue lagoon and something that needs to be done as you’re in Iceland. Great little fish bar just outside...
But our driver was awful..he drove like a rally driver which at times was dangerous and not comfortable as you were thrown all over the place...he over took everything and hardly braked around the many many roundabouts...and he didn’t really interact with the travellers..obviously just a boring job to him.

Amazing Series of Stunning Highlights
Sep 2019
Although it started uneventfully, this tour was soon to reveal an amazing sequence of stunning highlights. The driver/guide, Chris, was excellent and pointed out several interesting features as we headed to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We continued on to a fantastic extra stop at the Black Church where a wedding party was just departing. Everyone in the van was happy with this short detour and thanked Chris for his suggestion.

The first highlight was Arnarstapi, a small fishing village with huge lava/basalt formations right on the beach. I have never seen anything like this. The views were fantastic—even a rainbow that lasted the entire time. After a great lunch, we headed up the peninsula coast to Londrangar, the next highlight. We could see the towering black basalt towers on the coast as we approached. After a stop for photos, we continued on to the black sand beach of Djupalonssandur, walking through a stunning path lined with very tall lava formations to an amazingly beautiful black pebble and sand beach with multiple lava formations.

Continuing around the peninsula, the next stop was Kirkjufell mountain. I still hadn’t quite put it all together in my mind (the mountains on the left and the waterfalls across the road on the right) until I made it up the hill, crossed the bridge and looked back at Kirkjufell. And there it was, that classic view of Kirkjufell Mountain with the waterfalls appearing to be at its base. The rain was becoming more intense making photo taking difficult.

I guess you can tell that even after being home for four weeks now, the memories of the highlights I’d seen and experienced is still prominent in my mind. When I look at my images, I just stare and say thank you NiceTravel for a marvelous day tour. NiceTravel, you are the best!

Most amazing experience by the most amazing guide!
The tour was so much more than what it promised to be! A cosy and manageable small group, and a fantastic guide named David! He made us all feel incredibly welcome, and went beyond his scope to take us to multiple additional stops on the way. We were more than happy to see more sights, and his enthusiasm was just contagious!

This tour is highly recommended to see the best of Snaefellsness Peninsula!
