Highlights
  • See the highlights of the Reykjanes Peninsula on a guided day trip
  • A guide provides live commentary about the sights along the way
  • A small-group tour lets you escape the crowds of tour busses
  • Choose your own drop-off spot (options include the airport and Blue Lagoon)
What to expect
  • Meet a driver at your centrally located hotel; bus stop, if your hotel isn't on the pick-up list; or at the Reykjavík cruise port, then board a climate-controlled minibus for the trip to the Reykjanes peninsula. The first stop of the day is Kleifarvatn Lake, which tops a fissure zone, and is fed entirely from underground, then you’ll continue to Graenavatn, a small lake in a volcanic crater with brilliant teal-colored water. Keep driving to the multicolored hills of Krysuvik, where you can stretch your legs on a walk between the bubbling hot springs. Pause for lunch at the harbor town of Grindavik—you can bring your own or purchase lunch upon arrival—then head to the geothermal mud pools of Gunnuhver, where you’ll hear the spot’s fascinating ghost story. Watch for birds along this stretch of coast, and visit Reykjanesviti, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland. The last highlight of the tour is crossing the “Bridge Between the Continents” driving between Iceland’s two tectonic plates. This tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point, at the Keflavik International Airport for flights departing 4pm or later, or at the Blue Lagoon (please note your desired drop-off point when booking).

Wow after Wow !!
There is no need to spend lot’s of time researching which Tour company to use - Gateway to Iceland are simply Outstanding !

I booked 3 tours with GTI and each was fantastic. Gummi and Jakob were fantastic knowledgeable guides and everywhere we went it was wow after wow.

This company will take you to off the beaten track places as well as all the major sites and I never felt rushed at any stop.

You can really experience Iceland to the full with Gummi’s company and he works tirelessly to ensure everyone has an amazing experience.

Thank you Gateway for the time of my life !

Fantastic Tour, Gummi the guide was amazing!
Mar 2020 • Couples
This was the last of the four tours we did during our stay, but the only one we booked via Gateway to Iceland.

We had a brilliant day, taking in all the natural beauty and small fishing villages of the Reykjanes peninsula.

Gummy our guide was so knowledgeable, attentive and thoughtful. He was the best guide of all the tours we did in Iceland!

Would highly recommend this company and will definitely book with them when we return to Iceland.

Reykjanes tour with Ian... highly recommended!
Feb 2020 • Couples
Great tour, off the beaten track...not the best weather but our guide Ian was brilliant!! Ian was so knowledgeable about the locations and the country. He put everyone at ease in the group which made the tour very interactive, and really added to the experience. The tour itself was very interesting and diverse starting off with a drive passed the Presidents residence, through a field with racks of drying fish (this was actually one of my favourite pictures of the holiday), some hot springs and of course the bridge between two continents. There was a great stop for lunch, our recommendation would be the lobster soup (this was the best lobster soup we had whilst in Iceland) Ian was patient while everyone took their pictures and at no point did we feel rushed. We took several tours all with different companies and this tour was by far our favourite.

Wonderful half-day trip before the airport
Feb 2020
Great half-day trip before my departure with direct airport drop-off. A fantastic way to get a taste of the Reykjanes Peninsula with stops at many scenic sites. Ian was a lively and knowledgeable guide with many interesting anecdotes and fun facts. The group wasn't very big either which was great as it gave us a chance to interact more and it felt more personal.

Reykjanes- Ask for Ian
Dec 2019 • Couples
The trip itself is good. You see the geothermal park at its best. From geothermal vents to bridges across plate tectonics, this tour is a great way to spend 6 hours. Our tour guide was Ian, who elevated the trip to another level. His vast knowledge of the area and friendly manner made this extremely wet and cloudy day that little bit brighter. We learned so much about the history of Iceland and the role it played in WWII. A very enjoyable experience. Thanks again Ian.

Fantastic and Informative Day
Dec 2019 • Couples
We booked this so we could see a bit more of the area and we did! They even picked us up without issue from our hotel the other side of Reykjavík. Yes there is quite a bit of driving but it’s in a warm and comfy luxury minibus and you have a lot of ground to cover both initially just outside the city and then around the peninsula itself. There are lots of stops to take photos etc. Our guide, Gummi, was very knowledgeable had lots of stories and was keen to show us as much as possible. He even helped out two tourists who had gotten stuck on the icy road. The peninsula is stunning and quite unique and the Fish House lumch was yum! The trip is well worth doing if you are interested in learning more about Iceland and it’s natural geography etc. The fact you are dropped off at the airport (we did this to fill our last day) is a bonus and we both said we were so glad we chose this tour. Thanks to Gummi and the team For making our last day in Iceland a good one. 👍

Wonderful small group trip
Nov 2019 • Friends
A perfect, smaller group and shorter day trip to a quiet yet beautiful area of Iceland. I did this tour on Thursday and it was amazing. Our driver was very friendly, gave us so much information about the environment and landscape and told us about myths and stories about the area. He also got out of the van with us and walked around all the stops with us which was really very nice as he told us even more information! Such a friendly, knowledgeable guide who also happened to be the owner! It's such a beautiful area, really is wonderful and to be honest I would do this tour all over again. A must on your visit to Iceland!

Top trip. Great alternative to a standard airport transfer
Realising that everything in Iceland is so dam expensive, I came to the conclusion that £59 for a day out including airport transfer was probably better value than the normal £25 Id pay for the bus to the airport. We saw several geothermal sights, black beaches, cliffs with waves and viewpoints. Our guide Andre F was a top lad. Most tour guides only give the occasional snippet of knowledge. Andre gave us talks on everything ranging from Iceland in WW2, plate tectonics, Icelandic folklore, Christmas in Iceland, Icelandic politics etc.. incredibly thanks for a great day out just before my flight. Fyi the bus got to the airport around 2:10, and I’ve heard the normal time for arrival is 2-2:30

Reykjanes
A great trip with a informative friendly local guide. Shows you the best little bits of the South of Iceland. Worth the money considering how much fuel would cost to get there. Plenty of pic opportunities to impress your friends and family.

Great guide and lovely views

Thank you so much Gunnar for your enthusiastic way of narration and your guidance! I had already seen a lot of Iceland but your company really made the trip worthwhile. Reykjanes is an area that is often overlooked but can serve as a good introduction for discovering Iceland. Gunnar was very laid back (giving us enough time everywhere), and since we were a small group we could visit a lovely small restaurant/coffee house by the harbor (recommended: the lobster soup). Takk!
