Catching sight of the northern lights while in a populous area can be more difficult due to the bright city lights. Head out into the Icelandic countryside's darkness during this guided tour with round-trip transport from Reykjavik. Your guide finds the best spot for viewing the aurora borealis, giving you a better chance to view the light show than if setting out alone.
What to Expect
Your evening begins with pickup at your Reykjavik hotel by small car or minibus. From there you’ll head out deep into the darkened countryside where your tour guide will scout the sky for the first signs of the aurora borealis.

When your guide finds the best place for viewing the northern lights, you'll have plenty of opportunity to get out of the car to view and snap some photos of the dancing lights. Make sure to dress warmly and bring along a few extra layers since you will be standing outside to view the lights.

Although your guide takes you to a location with the best chance of viewing the northern lights, seeing them is not guaranteed. If you don’t get to see the lights on your tour, don’t worry; you’re welcome to join another night’s tour free of charge.

Your northern lights tour ends with a drop-off back in Reykjavik.

We went with the guide Makrem who was marvellous. It was not an easy night to see the lights and as the clouds came I imagined we would just see the stars. Makrem took photos and showed us the lights were there and we needed...More

On our initial tour we were unlucky despite out drivers best efforts to seek out gaps in cloud cover. The 2 following evenings the tours were cancelled due to bad weather, pretty much 8/8 cloud. As the weather on our last day in Iceland cleared...More

It’s very unpredictable, but if you look at the lunar calendar and the Iceland aurora forecast (only predicts 3 days ahead of time), you can have a better idea of what you might get. Don’t let the weather forecast scare you... More
