Go with Dofri for the insider's tour of Iceland
We had an absolutely fantastic time with Dofri and can't recommend him highly enough. He tailored the trip to us and our needs and interests and showed us some gorgeous sites. He even found a restaurant that had vegan food for us and he helped our elderly relative, who struggled with walking. Dofri is a consummate storyteller and brought the history of Iceland to life. He's also just a genuinely nice guy and is really lovely to spend time with. Definitely have a private tour with Dofri!

        Terrific Golden Circle Tour
We were six seniors including one disabled person using a scooter and we had a blast. Dofri picked us up timely at our hotel and we set out with his telling us about the Iceland saga and his family. Dofri is a wonderful story teller. He tied the tales to the places we were viewing. He was kind, thoughtful and quite funny. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him. It was a great tour of iconic Iceland sites.

        Best tour guide in Iceland!
We had such an amazing time with Dofri! He is extremely knowledgable about the history and culture of Iceland. We loved hearing all his stories about growing up in Iceland! Dofri is also extremely flexible and adaptable, and will make the most of the tour based on weather. We would highly recommend booking a tour with him!

        Amazing tour with Dofri!
Magnificent! Spectacular! And the scenery of Iceland was wonderful too. But I am referring to our travel guide, Dorfi H. Our group explored the Golden Circle, South to Vik and Thorsmork, and then North to Akureyri and Husavik. Dorfi helped me refine the plans to see the tourist spots, but also explore off the beaten path. Our group ranged in age from 9-84. He made everyone feel comfortable and important. Dofri has a vast knowledge of Iceland and its history. But his stories on folklore and Vikings kept us entertained for hours of travel. Dofri is one of the most interesting people I have met. He is educated and well spoken on a variety of topics. We were missing our dog and he brought his 2 border collies who were adored by all. I really can't recommend Dofri enough. He made our 7 days of travel with him so enjoyable and informative. Enjoy your time with the best!

        We had an amazing experience
We came all the way from Brazil, and such an amazing experience with our guide Dofri. Our guide was aways delivering much more then expected. Huge cultural level, filled with great stories and great interpretation (he's an actor as well). He took us to places beyond the ones we booked. Thank you for everything Dofri!

Incredible South Coast Adventure with Dofri and Reykjavik Errupts
This was the third of three tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts. I wrote separate reviews for both of those tours as well. I was a bit sad that this was going to be the last day of tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts, but at the same time, I was excited to go because I knew our guide had some more fun adventures planned for us that day. He did not disappoint! Dofri and our canine guides (Hneta and Kvika) picked us up again at our hotel. Before starting our tour, they were kind enough to bring us back to see the Icelandic horses again. It was a short stop, and we were soon on the road again with our first stop being an out-of-the-way pit stop where I could buy an Icelandic sweater (lopapeysa). Dofri had paid attention to what I mentioned in conversation the previous day and took me to a place where I could get exactly what I wanted at a fraction of the cost in downtown Reykjavik! It was a long trip from Reykjavik to our first stop, Skogafoss. On the way, Dofri introduced us more to Icelandic culture and tradition and continued the Saga of Egil that he told us the previous day on our trip around the Golden Circle. And he taught us some Icelandic lullabies (he has a wonderful singing voice). Again, he was more of a friend than just a tour guide. The time and distance between stops could be long, and he made the time fly by. After visiting Skogafoss, at our request, Dofri headed to Vik for lunch. He knew an out-of-the-way place (away from the tour busses) with great food. I had the best arctic char there. Dofri was great for knowing all the best places to eat. He even helped us make reservations for dinner after our tours with him. He goes above and beyond what's expected. After Vik, we visited Reynisfjara Beach, the famous black sand beach. Dofri explained how the awesome columns were formed. I should note, on all three tours he was a wealth of geological information. I learned so much from him regarding Iceland's geology. He explained things so well that visiting the Perlan museum was just a recap for me (it's a wonderful place to visit too). We did a quick stop at a glacier. I am disappointed in myself for not taking note of the name, but I was so excited at the time to hike up to it. Because our stops were relatively short (it's hard for mom to walk around) there was some extra time. Dofri (and Hneta) stayed with mom to keep her company while my canine guide Kvika went with me to hike up to see the glacier. I was so glad to have someone to keep mom company so I was able to do some things she couldn't do. I was also happy to be walking with Kvika. Our last stop of the day was Seljalandsfoss. We drove by it earlier and didn't stop, but Dofri had a very good reason for this. We didn't get to walk behind it because it was closed due to ice, but it was still breathtaking. One of my favorite things here was seeing the hidden waterfall nearby Gljúfrafoss. Dofri helped me into the narrow and slippery canyon that led up to the falls. I am glad he was there with me to show me the way and keep me from falling on the slippery rocks (I can be clumsy). The last thing I needed was to get hurt in the middle of my trip. On the long drive back, our private guide and skald continued with sagas he started. Between the sites, the sagas, and meeting the locals, Dofri crafted a unique and unforgettable Iceland adventure for me and my mom. I highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts and Dofri in particular to anyone who wants to book a private tour in Iceland. I booked a private guide because I brought my elderly mom with me on a short trip to Iceland, and I knew private tours would be best considering our limited time and her mobility issues. Dofri made sure our Iceland experience was priceless. Please see my other reviews (Golden Circle and Visit the Volcanoes) for more information about Reykjavik Erupts. I fully plan to go back to Iceland in the future, and I will be sure to book Reykjavik Erupts again when I do.

Golden Circle Gems: A Memorable Experince with Dofri and Reykjavik Errupts
This was the second of three tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts. I also wrote reviews of those tours. The Golden Circle tour with Reykjavik Erupts was fantastic! I thought the first tour we did with Dofri was great, but this one was even better. It was like spending a day with a long-lost cousin who knew all the ins and outs and fun things to do in his home turf. Dofri and his canine helpers, Hneta and Kvika (we asked if they could continue to tour with us), started the day by picking us up at our hotel and soon headed out to the Golden Circle. Our first stop was Thingvellir. On the way there, Dofri began telling us the saga of one of his ancestors, Egill. I won't spoil anything here, but I may now know where a horde of silver is buried in Iceland. I should also add that after hearing the saga from Dofri, I went out and bought a book on Egill's Saga. He is a credit to his skald ancestor and tells it better than reading it in a book, hands down. When we reached Thingvellir, Dofri was quick to help my mom in her wheelchair. She only needs it on long walks, and this was a long walk... downhill. Holding a wheelchair back while walking downhill is a lot harder for me than pushing it uphill. But Dofri stepped in and took care of it, keeping my mom safe and comfortable while we walked. As soon as the ground was flat, he allowed me and mom some private time to enjoy Thingvellir together. Later, he kept my mom occupied by playing fetch with the dogs while I took a hike up to a small but beautiful waterfall that was not accessible to her. We stopped briefly at a secret, off-the-beaten-path place near a lake. There, we saw how traditional Icelandic rye bread was cooked (fascinating). It was a beautiful area, and we were some of the only people there. No big buses of people. Dofri made us reservations at Friðheimar, the famous tomato farm. It was at the top of my mom's list as she used to grow a huge garden. We ate some of the best tomato soup there, and I even tried tomato ice cream (pretty good). We then visited Gullfoss (where again Dofri kept my mom company so I could explore more on foot) and then my favorite stop of the day, Geysir. He snapped the best photo of me and mom (I will share that with my photos). That's another great thing about having Dofri as a guide: his eye for a good photo! We headed for home after that, but not before Dofri took us to one of the best secret ice cream cafes in the area. We learned a lot more on the way back to the hotel about Iceland and its people... including some personal stories from our guide himself. I highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts and Dofri in particular to everyone who wants to book a private tour in Iceland. I booked a private guide because I brought my elderly mom with me on a short trip to Iceland, and I knew private tours would be best considering our limited time and her mobility issues. Dofri made sure our Iceland experience was priceless. Please see my other reviews (Visit the Volcanoes and South Coast) for more information about Reykjavik Erupts. I fully plan to go back to Iceland in the future, and I will be sure to book Reykjavik Erupts again when I do.

Make Iceland your next trip .
Whether you plan this trip yourself or use a travel agent, Iceland is a must go to. I don't know why we've waited so long we were chasing the northern lights and we were rewarded twice. We used a company called Reykjavík excursions that canceled every single night so we had to see the lights on our own. The center of Reykjavik is a hub of delicious food. Friendly people awesome live music every single night loved the Irish pub and the bar that looks like a library on the main street. The center hotels are wonderful. Had a great direct flight on Icelandic air from Seattle. Takk icelavd

        Amazing study trip!
We had an excellent experience with Dofri and Sigga from Reykjavik Erupts. A group of 13 of us were on a study trip to Iceland, and Dofri and Sigga used their extensive network of contacts, local knowledge and experience to offer a fantastic itinery for visiting inspiring businesses in the Reykjavik area as well as some natural beauty spots. We had a flight delay of 24 hours, Sigga and Dofri re-arranged parts of the original itinery so that we could make the most of the time we had and managed to do most things. They were both very to easy to work with, flexible, reliable, knowledgeable, punctual and professional. I'd highly recommend booking a trip with them to make the most of your time in Iceland!

        Incredible Day with Dofri
It was an incredible day with Dofri on the south coast of Iceland. He was able to avoid the crowds while taking us to the best sites on the south coast. He even brought along his two dogs, Hneta and Kvika, who greatly enhanced the experience. They were highlights of the trip. In addition to the wonderful day he was able to help us secure a last minute rental car for the next day. Dofri is a very experienced guide and we highly recommend booking with him

Fabulous Iceland Tour and Amazing guide
We had an incredible day with Dofri on a recent trip to Reykjavik. We were coming to Iceland on a cruise ship, but wanted a personal experience in Reykjavik. We feel very lucky to have found Dofri and to have made a lifetime friend. Dofri met us at the cruise ship terminal as arranged and even offered a bonus of bringing his wonderful border collie guides with us. Being dog people, this added such a fun part to our day, and you have never met better behaved dogs. We had a 12 day cruise, and Dofri made this day so special that it was all of our favorite excursion for our entire trip. Dofri is exceptionally knowledgeable about Iceland and Reykjavik, and cares deeply about making your day extra special and personal. He sought our feedback (and that of our teenagers) throughout the day to make sure that we were seeing what we most wanted to see and do, and he adjusted on the fly. His van is large, comfortable and very nice. We had comfortable accommodations for our day trip around the Golden Circle. Iceland is stunning. Dofri filled in the gaps to help us understand the history, context and details around each site visited, and in the landscape in between stops. He is laid back, easy going and friendly and very well spoken. He also happens to be a great photographer and took some amazing pics for us. Now, how to pick just one for the Christmas card!?! Dofri is a native Icelander and has worked in the film/tv industry, politics, tourism and is just a really cool guy. He appealed to adults and teens and made the day unique, fun and memorable. We felt like we had made a new friend in Iceland and want to stay in contact! Thank you Dofri for an unbelievably fun and interesting day. You helped us to fall in love with Iceland and gave us all a day we will remember forever. Come see us in Texas! We cannot recommend him highly enough for any tour you might like to take in and around Reykjavik. You cannot find a better guide to show you this amazing country.

The Golden Circle is a must but don’t do it without Dofri
If you are planning a trip to Iceland, the Golden Circle is a must. Dofri has the knowledge, space in his Mercedes van, and the personality to make it a trip to remember. Dofri picked us up at our hotel downtown and we then traveled the Golden Circle- waterfalls, Viking history, geysers and local food. Probably the greatest part was the Icelandic knowledge/history that Dofri provided. He is truly a Renaissance man w/ in depth knowledge due to his upbringing in this West w/ horses, education, and multiple careers. The scenery is beautiful and a must see but don’t do it without Dofri. We hope to return again and travel w/ Dofri to see the northern lights, volcanoes and possibly even a horse tour in the west.

        Best Guide Ever!
We were picked-up at our hotel by our guide at 8:30 AM - We were dropped-off by our new friend. We have traveled the world for more than 40+ years and without a doubt Dofri is the very best guide we have ever had the pleasure to meet. As if his wonderful personality, and stories of his family history, expert knowledge, and delightful humor were not enough, he also toured us around in a brand-new Mercedes Sprinter van fit for kings. Thank you, King of Trolls!

My crew and I had a 24 hour in layover and we booked a private tour through Reykjavik Erupts. Finn was our guide in a Land Rover SUV. We had a blast. Finn was very knowledgeable of the area and showed us all the highlights. I highly recommend using this company if you are not up for the big bus tours.

Whilst the weather was not cooperating the tour was definitely worth it. We met at Volcano house after watching a couple of really interesting videos and were lucky enough (maybe due to the weather) to have the guide to ourselves. We headed up to a fresh water lake, then on to see the strata of ash/rock/and lava that comprises Iceland illustrated. A trip to some hot water springs followed and then a visit to a hidden cave for some hot chocolate (with a little something extra) and typical Icelandic pastry (doughnut) before heading back with an inpromptu visit to a fish drying set up.

So whilst not ideal conditions a really interesting and informative tour. Well worth it

We came to Iceland to see the Northern Lights and were extremely disappointed when they decided not to show up, but this tour made up for it! We had a great time seeing beautiful vistas and hiking with Reykjavik Erupts! Kommi and Dofri's knowledge and stories were very entertaining. I highly recommend this tour!

I had some scheduling issues that I worked out with Dofri before I arrived and the day of my tour we both had even more schedule issues. But we worked out what worked for both of us. He met me exactly on time and got me to my airport drop off exactly when he said he would. The tour itself was great. I am a geologist and had only a half day so this worked great. I was able to see a lot in a short time. I highly recommend this tour if you don’t have a lot of time. Dofri is an excellent guide and with a small group it’s much easier to accommodate your own interests.

We were so happy to return to Iceland, and decided to go back to Reykjavic Erupts for a second tour of some hidden gems off the beaten track.

We booked through the 'What's On' office in Reykjavic and were collected punctually at the Volcano House by Dofri in his Landrover Discovery. There were 3 in our party and we were also joined by Pierre from Sicily.

Dofri is an amazing guide, and I think I described it before like driving around with your best friend. This is certainly more of an interactive experience than your normal tour, more of a continual conversation than a pre-prepared script. We discussed everything from the history of Iceland, geology, nature and folk law, all the time visiting the most amazing places, and surrounded by gorgeous scenery. It was a wonderful afternoon and such a shame it had to end.

10/10 Dofri, thank you so much for yet another amazing experience!!

So if you fancy doing something different from the standard tours and really want to learn about this amazing island and its people, I can really recommend Dofri, and Reykjavic Erupts. Check out their website for full details of their trips.

Thank you, Hutch, for your great review. It was wonderful to see you again after two years and I am thrilled you had such a good time - again! :) Hope to see you again someday soon. Dofri.

My friend and I had taken a couple of large group tours on our visit to Iceland, but the Volcanoes half day tour was just the two of us and our guide, Finn. That's it. Not thirty or forty other people. We started off the morning at the Volcano House (we were the only ones there, too), with two introductory films on volcanoes on Iceland; the huge eruption in 1973 (?) on the Westman Islands that forced evacuations of most of the population and devastated buildings and infrastructure, and then then disruptive eruption in 2010 of Eyjafjallajökull that shut down air traffic for weeks. We came out of the little theater to be greeted by Finn, and then we were off on the road. As we drove, Finn gave us more background on volcanoes and volcanic systems (it's more than just the erupting cone that we're all familiar with). We drove through lava fields (not flowing, but at one time it was), seeing incredible rock formations, stopped at a lake crystal clear, like glass, that you could drink out of, and I did. We also drove to Seltun, a geothermal area, with bubbling pools of mud, and the occasional whiff of sulfur. We visited some other stops, with amazing views, almost like being on the moon. What my friend and I both liked is we never felt rushed; we could stay and take photos as long as we liked before moving on. Finn took us to a hidden cave area, you can't see it from the road, and broke out a thermos of hot chocolate and a traditional Icelandic treat called a kleina. The tour was four hours, one hour for the films and time at Volcano House and around three out on the trails. We were lucky with the day, it wasn't too windy, not too cold and no rain or snow. The pictures I took really don't do it justice.

We saw a lot of cars with families, but I don't think we saw one tour bus, which was nice. There is some ability to customize the tour (more hiking, more driving, etc.), and I would recommend Reykjavik Erupts for a personalized experience.

Thank you for your great review. We truly appreciate it because for a small tour company like ours, a good word of mouth is the only reasonable marketing strategy. :)

A fun tour that wont take up your whole day. I learned a lot about the volcanos and saw some amazing scenery in only about 20-30 min drive from the city centre.

Having had our helicopter trip cancelled due to cloud, we decided on a private 4x4 excursion.
      We were not disappointed.
Our driver, Finn, took us over to the lava fields south west of Reykjavik.
The quiet, barren wilderness was a joy to behold.
Finn was very knowledgeable and told us all about the geology and the flora and fauna.
It was a wonderful afternoon and we would recommend it to anyone.
