- lisapink120 contributionsSNORKELING IN SILFRA FISSUREI absolutely loved this trip. I was so nervous about snorkelling because I’m not very confident in the water but Wilmar was the best instructor. He was very professional with a great sense of humour. He was reassuring & always was close by when I was in the water keeping an eye on me. I wasn’t cold throughout the adventure & the hot chocolate was delicious at the end. I would highly recommend this trip 5 star 🌟Written 17 February 2025
- Richard F0 contributionsRonaldo was awesome 🤣What a laugh , great international group of people, Canada , US etc all up for a laugh . What an experience, totally different dive to any I’ve done . What makes this class is the guide Wilmar or Ronaldo as I called his as he’s a Catalonian Barcelona fan 🤣🤣 what a guy , good laugh with a great team around him . Very good at putting the more nervous people at ease . Safety is first class with these guys & fun at the same time , a very experienced diver . When your kitted up checked over numerous times your in the sink . I won’t say to much about it , as you should experience the beauty yourself. I dive but this blew my mind . Wilmar is constantly checking on the first timers throughout. It is absolutely stunning visibility in the water . Great fun start to finish My old pal Ronaldo makes it a great trip all round , letting a few of us stay in longer seeing if we could get under in the dry suits . Great experience, Wilmar and his crew are top notch divers with time for anyone of any experience. A must with these guys ⚽️ 🤣🤣👍Written 17 February 2025

He was so knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and really took great care of everyone in our group. I was particularly nervous about the deep water, but Wilmar was incredibly patient and supportive, helping me overcome my fear and truly enjoy the experience. From the initial briefing to helping us get geared up and even capturing some awesome underwater photos, Wilmar made the whole experience unforgettable. Highly recommend this tour, and if you're lucky enough to have Wilmar as your guide, you're in for a treat!Written 16 February 2025
- 968ellied0 contributionsA must-do experienceThis experience was one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland! Edgar was an exceptional guide - helpful with the drysuits, knowledgeable about the site and made me feel really comfortable as a solo traveller. The water is cold, but you are very warm in the dry suits. The coldest part is afterwards while you're waiting to take the suits off, but the hot chocolate really helps. Could not recommend this enough!Written 16 February 2025

What a birthday gift to receive for my 50th. If you do one thing in Iceland that you'll never forget this is it. The views were breath taking and genuinely moved me. Wilmar is exceptional, puts every ones safety first, looks after you like family, has a great manner and sense of humour. The water was so clear when snorkeling but there wasn’t much to see (we understood this before booking but for those who think you’re going to see “something”, you’ll see rock formations, which is still really cool). The dry suit is amazing. Keeps you dry and relatively warm, at least in the month of May. The lava cave was cool but our guide (who’s going back to Mexico) made the tour very memorable. Five start for sure

Our driver and lava cave guide, Grétar, met us precisely at the designated meeting time and took us to Silfra in the morning before the crowds arrived!
We had never snorkeled before, but the guides were super helpful getting us geared up and showing us the basics. Anil, our dive guide, was very fun and also considerate in getting good individual pictures of everyone, as well as group shots of our family. After the guided path, he gave people time to independently explore the last area if they wanted to. Silfra itself was magnificent, and didn't feel as cold as we expected!
The Leiðarendi lava cave was fantastic as well! Grétar's explanations of the geology and history of the cave made an already beautiful place so much more fascinating. The cave at one point split into a short, direct route and a scenic but more difficult route, and Grétar accommodated people who wanted to go different ways.
The transport was actually amazing as well. It was so great to have a native Icelander share his knowledge with us! Grétar was super helpful in answering any question we threw at him.
Fantastic experience, even in ways we weren't expecting!

Thank you for the wonderful review! I’m so glad to hear that both the Silfra snorkeling and Leiðarendi lava cave tours were such memorable experiences for you and your family. It was a pleasure guiding you through the lava cave and sharing insights about Iceland’s unique geology and history. I'm also happy to know that Anil made your first snorkeling experience enjoyable and captured some great photos along the way.
I’m thrilled that everything, from the transport to the flexibility of the cave tour, made the day even better. It was an honor to share Iceland’s beauty with you, and I look forward to welcoming you back for more adventures in the future!
Kind regards,
Grétar and the Adventure Vikings team

Our guide in the Lava Tunnel was very knowledgeable and we had a great time - suggest wearing gloves and not wearing a backpack (no need). The snorkeling was exceptional and absolutely once in a lifetime. DO bring very warm base layers to wear under the dry suit and make sure you bring hats and extra warm mittens for the changing period. My fiancé ended up with a small amount of nerve damage in his fingers due to the wind and reduced circulation from the dry suit while waiting for others to change into their suits (I do think we had a slower group which may have contributed to this as well). Overall an unforgettable experience!

We had a great adventure with Ivan. From the lava tubes to snorkeling the fissure, Ivan took care of us. He was incredibly patient and helpful. He expertly guided us underground and in the water. Ivan worked hard to make sure we were warm, dry and safe. He truly made us feel like Adventure Vikings and because of it we had a fantastic experience that we will never forget. Thank you, Ivan!

It’s cold and a bit intimidating but it is 100% worth it!!! Oh my - when you look down and start floating, it is like flying over an otherworldly canyon.
Unfortunately the caving part of the tour was cancelled due to earthquake activity, but this snorkelling part was extremely well done - good equipment and well explained - just do it!!

We did the dry suit snorkeling, booked with Adventure Vikings thru GetYourGuide.com. The website seemed like you could choose wet or dry, but once there we were told we were all doing dry and would have had to book wet in advance.
An amazing experience with well-trained guides. They were extremely helpful and friendly, while keeping safety the number one priority. It takes 2.5-3 hours, but the snorkeling itself is about 35 minutes. A lot of the time is spent getting the group outfitted in thermals, dry suits, head cover, gloves and more. That’s not a complaint, there is just a lot of stuff to put on and they have to help each person individually. But they are very efficient and organized.
Be prepared for a loose fitting neoprene suit with tight rubber against the neck and wrists to keep water out. The suit has boots built in to the pants so nothing special needed for feet. They suggest you wear something like long sleeve T-shirt and leggings or thermals, and warm socks. It wasn’t clear on the website what we should wear, so I had on bike shorts which worked ok. Must have socks for warmth and sanitary reasons. Over that they give you a thermal onesie, and then the dry suit. On your hands are neoprene mittens with a separate forefinger and thumb.
There is a second strap that goes around the neck even tighter to keep water from getting in the suit. Over top of that is a neoprene head piece that covers everything but your eyes, nose and mouth. People who are claustrophobic might have a hard time in the suit. Once you get the suit itself on, they keep adding straps and wraps and pieces, it’s tight on the neck, and you have to remind yourself you can still breathe. Especially once you get the snorkel mask and tube on, one has to stay calm and just breathe through the mouth.
The water is very cold, almost freezing point, but isn’t icy. The suit keeps you warm enough, except for the few things that get water on them like your lips and lower face. Since we were snorkeling I was able to lift my face out of the water if I got too cold. Water does sneak in to the mittens. They said not to try to pour it out, that would just make things worse. So we just dealt with it, but hands were very very cold especially towards the end of the snorkeling.
The view of the fissure was outstanding and very beautiful. If you wear glasses and need them to see, you either need to wear contacts for this trip or bring your own prescription mask. No way to wear your glasses and snorkel mask together. It’s challenging if you’ve never had this much gear on before, and don’t know how to maneuver really. I would think you should be at least 12-13 to do this well. It’s hard to keep up with your party and younger kids would get uncomfortable and scared.
The lava cave part of the tour was also very challenging. At least 3 places where you had to crawl through a short spot on hands and knees (or plank-style), lots of bending over and clambering over rocks in low light. An interesting cave, but not the best cave I’ve ever seen. Wet and drippy which wasn’t bad, but not much in the way of natural formations. Two of the stalactites had been stolen by someone a few years back, so there was not a lot to see other than the cave walls themselves and rock layers. I might have skipped this if I had known how much tight clambering we would have to do. Still, our guide was awesome and so helpful! Highly recommend Adventure Vikings. Just be clear on the difficulty of this trip before you sign up!

The day started with us getting collected by our amazing guide Ivan. It was just myself and my friend who ended up doing the caving so the experience was really intimate and lovely. Ivan was super friendly and gave us tips about places to go and see while we drove to the LeiĂ°arendi lava cave. Inside the cave was magical - there were all sorts of cool geological formations and colours in the rock created by the minerals from the lava. Since there were so few of us we ended up going through the cave very quickly and we got to back track and go through the cave a second time from the opposite direction giving a whole other perspective on the things we saw the first time around. The caving was fun as unlike caves I've been to before where you can walk through the whole cave, this one required more maneuvering and squeezing through some gaps in the rock which made it feel all the more adventurous. After the caves we returned to Reykjavik to pick up one more person before heading to Thingvellir National Park to the Silfra Rift. All the guides there were really helpful and gave us thorough safety instructions and helped us into our gear. Most people wore the drysuits but we wore the wetsuits. It was extremely cold not gonna lie but It was worth every second. Once I actually got into the water all thoughts of cold were pushed out of my mind because all I could process was the sheer beauty of the underwater landscape. The guides brought us along our course in groups of 6 and took lots of photos along the way. Ivan checked with me multiple times to make sure I was okay along the route which I thought was really nice. The clarity of the water was stunning, with it's otherworldly blueness. We spent like 40 minutes going through the fissure, those of us in wetsuits being able to freedive a bit down into the water which was worth the extra bit of cold in exchange for the better views. Despite the cold, being in that water was the most intense but also the single best experience of my entire life. It has always been on my bucket list and photos just can't do it justice it's something that needs to be experienced in person. Ivan was very helpful afterwards when it came to removing my gloves and such as my hands were too cold to really do anything and I was really appreciative. After we changed, he drove us back to Reykjavik, ending a very pleasant day. I would recommend this tour as a must see for anyone visiting Iceland, it was beautiful and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Hi Tour03035113876
The mimimum amount of participants needed so that this tour is scheduled, is two persons. It is partially a buisness related factor.

My husband has raynaud's disease (a disease that causes swelling and pain in his hands when in extreme cold conditions). Will the drysuit keep his body temperature from being too cold? Is there anything we can bring with us to help with his condition? Hot Hands packets? We have reserved tickets for Oct 20th.
Written 2 October 2019
Hi Victoria Hanna. Sorry for the very late answer. I will still try to answer, for others with similar questions. The temperature inside the cave should not be a problem, a good winter jacket, gloves and a thin beanie to keep under the helmet that we provide, should be enough. Regarding the snorkeling part, because the water temperature is quite cold, 2°C (37°F) all year around, I would suggest printing out our medical form that can be found on our website or by contacting us through email and then have your physician review it prior to arriving in Iceland. For safety reasons we do not allow the use of hot packets/instant heat packets/warmers in our equipment. Best Regards The Adventure Vikings team
