- scarletts2700 contributionsNot a good experienceThe weather was really bad. I know there's nothing we can do about it, but they could arrange the itinerary a bit better. The time that it spent for resting areas and restaurants was too long. I don't understand why they put the waterfall at night, we couldn't really see anything. if they skip the "dinner" , it would go earlier for the waterfall. Also, the Website said that we would go to the Vik , but we didn't, we were only be there for toilet break😑, which was quite disappointing.Written 15 January 2025

- craigr2310 contributionsHot and cold with a view! The first step of the 7-step ritual spa was truly spectacular. Emerge from the changing room into warm water, hardly noticing that you're outdoors (it was about 13 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of my visit); when the steam and mist rising from the water would clear momentarily, you'd see the ice- and snow-covered rocks surrounding the extremely large hot water lagoon. As you walk through exploring, you find a geothermal waterfall you can stand under, or various benches in the water, or the infinity edge of the lagoon less than 30 feet from the Atlantic, where you could watch birds fishing in the water. There was even a wade-up bar in the lagoon. It was really huge-easily over 100 people in the lagoon when I was there, but it did not feel crowded. The web site describes the other steps in the spa treatment, but I also want to mention the third step: the sauna, with one entire wall a window facing the Atlantic; there were actually two, and I chose the "quiet" one that discouraged cell phones and conversation. After step 7, return to the lagoon and feel stress and worry evaporate with the steam. Do this alone, with a loved one, or with friends, but do it!Written 14 January 2025
- maxmE6290XY0 contributionsIncredible ExperienceSome of the most fun I’ve had on holiday. The Golden Circle is an incredible place, even in the middle of January the views are beautiful. Once you get to the geyser, you should will be given enough time to have some lunch. Finally you get to the Gullfoss Waterfall where you will board a specialised bus and head up the glacier for about an hour and a half. When you get to base camp, the snowmobiling can start once everyone is suited up. Visibility was pretty bad on the day I was there, but if I’m honest, that just made it more exciting and adventurous. Guðrún was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide who I would like to thank for a great day. Pawel, our driver, was very good. I felt very safe, even on an icy day. The only thing to bear in mind is that the tour says 10.5 hours, but this is of course weather dependent. We got back a bit later than expected, so if you book a northern light tour the same day you might struggle to make it. Worth every penny.Written 13 January 2025

Patience paid off for us all, despite people saying ‘oh tonight they won’t be out, maybe tomorrow’, but Stefan knew where to go! Thanks Stephan 💫 !Written 12 January 2025
- Mabnieves0 contributionsGreat tourGreat tour. Our driver and guide was Stefan A. He was very kind, give us information about the northern lights, the iceland culture and other things. You have to be patient but if you're lucky (and wait in the righ place) You can saw it. I really recommend the tour. 👏Written 12 January 2025
- barbarabberg0 contributionsStefan, the best guide to the Norden LightsOur guide was Stefan A. Everyone thought we wouldn't see the lights, but he was hopeful. Took us the perfect spot, waited until 00:30 with us and then we were graced with the most beautiful spectacle. Originaly our tour was on the 11, but it was rescheduled due to weather conditions to the next day. Trust the process. Book the tour for your first day here and rebook until it works out. The weather is just as unpredictable as the Auroras. But the guides have experience and a very sharp eye. Stefan noticed the most faint light in the sky and help us all set the cameras, so we could get the full show! Tip: I have a S23. Using the Pro option in the camera, set the ISO to 640, time to 8s and WB to 3500. Have fun!Written 12 January 2025

- sk13_13_130 contributionsCumbersome Airport TransferI've travelled a lot, and have never encountered a more confusing and awkward airport transfer process. Using a taxi is terribly expensive because Keflavik is in a different city area (as I was told). So you have to book one of the airport transfer companies, all of which follow the same maddening system: although you are made to think that you're booking and paying for a direct drop off at your hotel, you are taken to the bus deport, told to get off, pick up your own luggage, walk through the bus depot to get to the other side where you board another bus which drops you off at a bus stop that may or may not be right next to your hotel. What makes this process even more cumbersome is that there is no transparency when you book and you have no idea what to expect. For elderly people, people with kids, with lots of luggage or just being jet lagged after a long flight, having to walk a bit of a distance carrying your luggage from arrivals to where the buses are waiting is a most disorienting experience. Moreover, there was nothing at arrivals to indicate which way to go to find your FlyBus; the person I asked showed me where the buses were waiting. And when I made it through the bus depot to catch the second bus, I had no idea which bus to Catch. None of the bus companies staff that I saw wore any uniforms or hats to identify them. It's utterly confusing and unprofessional. Why they cannot come up with a system whereby the airport transfer involves only one bus is beyond me. At the very least, they should clarify the process.Written 12 January 2025
- sk13_13_130 contributionsFrustrated in the Blue Lagoon at NightIt was supposed to be the highlight of my trip, hence scheduling a visit to the Blue Lagoon on my last night in Iceland. I had read that a night visit was highly recommended because of the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. The staff were helpful, the changing /shower facilities plenty and well taken care off, but the actual lagoon was a terrible disappointment. There were no lights in the lagoon area and, because of this and the steam, it was impossible to see anything beyond the stretch of one's arm. A terribly disorienting experience. Impossible to find the mask and drinks bars without asking people, who themselves were lost and floundering, and not knowing for sure (because it was pitch dark) whether it was safe or you were meant to go under the bridges was similarly unnerving. Falling onto people because you saw them too late to move aside was also awkward, especially when they were making out in the dark. There were guards at some point who pointed to the direction of the drinks bar, but they weren't around when I wanted to leave and it took me a while to locate the ramp to exit. I understand it's important to maintain a certain atmosphere, but a few lights (or illuminated signs) are absolutely necessary. Also, I fail to understand why there is no heated bus shelter in the parking lot. What was supposed to be a highlight ended up being a maddening experience.Written 12 January 2025

We booked this trip via Iceland Air and it was an incredible value for people that are using Reykjavik as a home base, and not renting a car. It worked for us, but if you have a rental car...you could go there on your own and just follow the trail.
Our guides chatted a bit on the way there about the landscape, but they did not walk us up the Volcano. They literally said "follow the trail and remember your surroundings and you will be fine." They give you an arm band and get your phone # just in case you don't show up in 4 hours. We did stop at a random warehouse to use the bathroom on the way there and at a hotsprings that has facilities on the way back. There was a random porta-potty at the parking lot you could use in a pinch.
The Volcano was not spewing lava when we went. And it rained too, so wear warm rain proof jacket, hat, and shoes. The wind is pretty strong up there!! It was so neat to see the lava flow! Naturally we touched it and video chatted with the kids to freak them out!
The hike is tough up the Volcano if you have any limitations. However there is a shorter hike you can do to just see the end of the flow.

Been on the Golden Circle and South Shore tour already with this company and both times the trips were excellent!!. The driver was really good and drove safely and I could hardly feel any braking!. The tour guides both times were also excellent, really friendly and chatty, while on the Golden Circle Tour the tour guide shown me her photos from the volcano when it erupted, after she asked me what other tours I’m doing :) (Reviews for these two are posted separately).
When it came to the Volcano tour, it was raining really badly and a few other stops had to be called off, but the driver improvised brilliantly and substituted stops for new ones coming back and forth from the volcano, such as the bridge between continents which were tectonic plates and stopping by a really lovely and quaint cafe that served the best soup I’ve had in ages!!!.
Climbing up that volcano in that weather wearing only denim was a bad move on my account, but I was so pleased I did it and encouragement from my fellow tour group members and the tour guide kept me going and I was so pleased I done it!. Like he said afters, how many other times in my life will I ever spend on the top of a volcano overlooking the crater?. It was one amazing experience.
Yes, it rained and rained, but like the tour guide said, we were not there to expect good weather or drink pina coladas, we were there to experience a once in a lifetime sight!. The rain also added to the memory in a weird and wonderful way as well!.
Thanks again for everyone being so friendly and helpful in the office via email and the tours themselves!. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2023 and maybe see you again on another tour I haven’t tried yet!☺️.

We took the guided volcano hike. The bus picked us up on time, and our guide, Raven, gave us information as we drove to the trail head. The information provided by Reykjavik Excursions on the hike were right on! It was the degree of difficulty they said (moderate), took the amount of time to climb, both up and down (1 1/2 hours each way), the equipment they recommended was correct. If it had rained, we were prepared- luckily it did not. And we had the perfect amount of time to observe the volcano. Raven did the hike with our group. Even with different speeds, she kept in contact, and was so knowledgeable and helpful, and interesting!! She was great and added to an awesome experience!

For us, this was not a guided hike, it was just a ride to the volcano. The guide said little about the volcano on the intercom on the way over, then we got there she pointed out the way to walk and said be back by 6:30pm. She and the driver hiked part of the trail with us, sort of, but they were on their cell phones most of the time. I never saw them on the way back and I wasn't sure how to get back to the bus after the last giant hill, the southern edge of the lava. Others also had to guess how to get back to the bus.
My friend and I felt strongly that the guides should have taken us on the path closer to the lava so we didn't have to go up and down so many steep slopes. Some people did that go way and were able to go faster and make it to the slowly oozing lava field on the other side, most could not.

Flosi our tour guide did an incredible job - we started unsure how the tour would go as snow had covered the ground but flosi like a boss took us the whole way drove incredibly well & we felt safe the whole time. My understanding and magnitude of lava and the damage they can do has blown my mind! Would 100% recommend! Our hike was brilliant and seeing the steam from the hard magma was breath taking! Thank you!!!

The highlight of my holiday! I was feeling nervous about this hike as I wasn't sure what to expect but there were people of varying abilities doing the hike and everyone looked out for one another. The tour guide was very informative and made sure that everyone got up and down the volcano ok. The path was full of snow but we were advised on the best places to walk. Even though the volcano finished erupting last year, you could still feel the heat from the lava and see the gases as the lava takes months, even years to fully solidify underneath. Be prepared for all weather's as it was lovely at the bottom of the volcano and snowing when we got up there. Book this trip if you love hiking, it isn't for the faint hearted but worth doing if you can.
Also, I felt like I could go at my own pace which was what I was nervous about
Not only do you walk up the volcano but you get to see other geothermal relates places after your walk. Well worth the money!

Myself and my wife recently visited Iceland for the second time and wanted to experience something different on this visit, so decided upon the Volcano tour.
We were not sure what to expect but had a wonderful time on the trip and got to see lots of things we hadn't experienced on our first trip to the country.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we visited several different area before arriving at the volcano.
We then had the opportunity to walk up the side of the crater and view the whole area from above which was amazing and provided a true sense of geological history in the making. After descending the crater wall we then had the opportunity to explore the actual lave flow area.
The remainder of the trip visited several other interesting sites before heading back to Reykjavik and being dropped off at our hotel.
The bus was very clean, the driver and tour guide were very helpful & friendly and I would definately recommend this type of trip.

Our guide Hershy, was friendly and informative, we learned so much from his knowledge of the area and really enjoyed this tour, it was such an amazing experience, this was a full on day trip , it was amazing to see the lava fields and visit the most recent eruption site, it felt like we had landed on a different planet. The rock and lava formations are definitely something you must see if visiting Iceland. The trip was relaxed and our driver was safe which means a lot to me, I'm a nervous passenger when I'm not in control of the wheel. Thank you to all involved at reykjavik excursions, money well spent to be looked after as we have been.

The trip was amazing, even though we went during Christmas time where everything’s closed our guide Flosi did everything to make sure we all had the best experience. He was very knowledgable and we even got to see the recent lava field from the November explosion from 2024. My mum and I were able to do the short hike no problem and the view was amazing (a bit slow because we’re a bit short) he made sure we all got to the top and then helped everyone with going down. Loved it!

My husband won't stop talking about this excursion or showing people the photos and videos he took - which is not at all like him! He would agree with everything Ninny Ebaum has just written - it was cloudy and hail fell at the top of the fairly arduous climb so you do need warm, waterproof clothes and good boots. Going back down was more difficult because of the scree and angle of the slope but this was a once in a lifetime experience that he, our son and his wife will never forget. I was glad to stay behind with our granddaughter who was below the age limit of 9 years! They would have liked more time to enjoy the experience which was over too soon.
