About
With so much to see in such a compact area, a walking tour is by far the most convenient way to experience UNESCO-listed Valletta. But large groups can be crowded and impersonal. This Valletta walking tour is limited to 30 people, meaning personal attention as you check off the sights: perfect for first-time visitors or anyone with limited time.

See the Grandmaster’s Palace, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and Fort St. Elmo
Learn about Malta’s history, culture, and architecture from your local guide

What to expect
Join your guide and small group in the heart of Valletta. After a brief overview of the city’s history since the Knights of St. John (Hospitallers) built it in 1565, stroll past star attractions from the Baroque era: the Auberge de Castille, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and the Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck. Hear tales of Maltese history as you view the Grandmaster’s Palace. See sights from the new Parliament building and the ruins of the Royal Theater to Fort St. Elmo and the Siege Bell War Memorial. Wander the charming Barrakka Gardens with their sweeping views across Grand Harbor as you learn about modern Valletta. Finally, bid guide and group farewell in central Valletta.

Unhygienic; large group
The only positive aspect of this tour was the expertise of the guide Mario, a former history teacher. The so-called "small" group consisted of eighteen persons, of which most disregarded the legally mandated face-mask and social distancing without any comment by the guide. Unhygienic.

We are surprised to read this review, and there are various reasons for this: 1) We checked with the guide and a handful of guests, and everyone confirmed that masks and social distance were maintained. 2) We take the safety of our employees and guests very seriously and are strict about the COVID19 (or other) safety precautions. Emails before the tour also remind the guests about these measures, and guides are trained accordingly. 3) You did not flag your concern to our professional guide. 4) You raised this through a formal complaint after the tour, and we immediately addressed it in your favour. 5) Maltese law allows for a group as large as 52 as long as there is adequate distancing. Thank you for confirming that our groups are less than our maximum of 20, as we advertise. I am disappointed even though you were compensated as a sign of goodwill for something we disagreed with, and you still proceeded to leave two negative reviews. It makes me wonder whether you were caring about hygiene or had other objectives in mind. We wish you all good health.

Book this tour.
We did the 10am tour this morning with Matthew and both really enjoyed. Only about ten in total on the tour so plenty of opportunity for questions and very easy to follow. Matthew’s passion for his country is obvious and we learned lots and it gave us a far deeper understanding of the history of this wonderful city covering the last half millennium. Highly recommended to all.

A really interesting way to see Valletta thanks to Jennifer :)
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, she had microphone tech also, which was a good idea. The tour had good content and gave a flavour of the history of Malta and we stopped in the shade to listen. Plenty of opportunity for questions and good to have a 20 minute refreshment break in between. Many thanks Jennifer from me and my daughter Milly who is a real history buff! Highly recommended.

An outstanding experience
The tour was absolutely amazing. Very informative and interesting, giving us a glimpse of the colorful and often gruesome history of Malta, and Valletta in particular. Matthew was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic, taking the time to answer our questions, while also making the most of the duration of the 3 hour long walk around the capital. Highly recommend taking the tour, it’s a wonderful addition to your experience of the island!

Matthew was a pleasure to learn from. He was delightfully descriptive in his sharing of historical anecdotes and kept a great pace. I certainly appreciated how he graciously ensured we paused in the shade along the way. He was the ultimate professional and I feel I have a much better understanding and appreciation of Valetta.

Amazing amazing experience. The three hours seemed to fly by.
Mathew was very knowledgable and explained a lot of the historical contexts behind a number of the City's buildings and attractions.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Malta that wants to learn about the history of Valletta.
