Private Tour: Wachau Valley Tour, Melk Abbey Visit and Wine Tastings from Vienna
US$134.34
Overview
Spend a day in Austria’s UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, and discover its wine, food, and monuments with a private guide, just for your group. Perfect for those who want an organized trip but freedom to explore, the trip includes stops at authentic Austrian villages to sip wine in heurigen (taverns), sample chocolate, and relax. Finish with a Danube River cruise to Melk Abbey before a drop-off at your Vienna hotel.
What to Expect
Leave your Vienna hotel by minivan and travel from the city to the UNESCO-listed countryside of the Wachau Valley. As the region is known for its wine, your first stop is at a traditional heuriger where you’ll sample five famous varietals.

Continue to Dürnstein, a UNESCO World Heritage town to sample the produce typically made there. Chow down on chocolate, fruit preserves, and schnapps, then enjoy some free time for lunch (own expense).

After a second wine tasting in the village of Weissenkirchen, you’ll head to Sptiz where the waters of the stunning Danube await. Soak up sights of riverside vineyards, castles, and monuments as you cruise along the river to Melk, then hop out to explore Melk Abbey at leisure.

Your day trip then ends with the journey back to Vienna, finishing at your hotel.

Please note: In winter, the river cruise is replaced with an included lunch at a wine tavern.

Not to be missed, esp. for wine-lovers

The tour is well-organized. The wines we tasted were delicious but reasonably priced. Unfortunately some of them are not available in the U.S. Our guide and driver, Marco, is knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. He made the tour so much more enjoyable. Highly recommended.More

The Abbey is closed to visitors because it is now a girls school. So you can only admire the abbey from afar.
