Superb Day
Dec 2019 • Couples
The tour started promptly at 7:30a and the directions to the meeting point were clearly articulated. It was a very enjoyable day especially since the entire group consisted of a family of 4, my partner and myself. Our tour guide explained our journey for the day and was very knowledgeable. He shared facts throughout the journey to Salzburg including sharing his personal favorites. Upon arrival in Salzburg, our tour guide was waiting and we departed for the 1.5 hour walking tour. We enjoyed the mixture of Salzburg history as well as showing us a few locations where The Sound is Music was filmed. At the end of the tour, we had 2.5 hours to wander Salzburg on our own, which was plenty of time. The drive back to Vienna seemed short as most watched The Sound of Music on their dedicated iPad.

Service throughout the day was impeccable and ended with the tour guide delivering my iPhone to me at our hotel. I left my iPhone in the van and noticed it was missing about 5 minutes after being dropped off at our hotel. I didn’t panic as we were in a small group and thought I would be able to pick it up the next morning. To my surprise, our tour guide came back to our hotel that evening to drop off my phone.

I highly recommend this tour.

A trip back to the Middle Ages....
Dec 2019
We had an excellent tour of the Lakes Region and Salzburg. We much enjoyed Naomi's historical details about Salzburg during the Middle Ages, and about the filming of Sound of Music.

Good day trip
Nov 2019
It takes a about 3 hours each way to get to Salzburg from Vienna. The trip there you will make a couple of stops in the lake region to see some amazing views. You get about 2 hours or so on your own in Salzburg after the tour which is led by a local guide not the driver. It was pretty cold the day we were there but still enjoyed the visit.

Dear 422jh, thank you for sharing your experience with fellow travellers! It can indeed get quite cold in winter around here, but the views of the snow-capped mountains and wintery landscapes usually make up for it :) We hope to see you back in Vienna soon! Marlies & the Vienna à la carte team

Memorable Day Trip to Lake Region and Salzburg
I would like to thank the tour operator for the fantastic service provided. Our tour guide and driver - Fleming was a complete gentleman. He tried his best to accommodate all requests from the guests and provided detailed information of not only the places but their connection with bigger historical events. So people who didn't have a good idea about the historical events never felt left out. And it made for a great drive while we admired the lovely countryside.

The group included only 8 people and we were comfortably seated in the premium AC van. Every seat had iPads for entertainment and wifi was enabled inside the van. There should be more charging ports for the phones I felt considering it's a full day trip.

We stopped at an upmarket breakfast buffet place. The layout was a bit confusing to figure out at first and crowded. The stop was supposed to be for 20 mins but we got delayed and ended up leaving after 40 mins. There were some passengers who grumbled about the 40 min breakfast stop but since I couldn't get anything to eat before the early morning departure, really appreciated that Fleming accommodated it.

The drive was great. I chose this trip out of all the available options because of the lake region tour. I wish we had more time there. I would have loved to take a tour specifically for lake region but there was no such option available. May be some time from Salzburg tour can be curtailed so passengers can enjoy the lake region more.

In Salzburg, our guide Naomi kept the tour upbeat with her witty and lively commentary. I think there should be a lunch break before the walking tour since doing it on an empty stomach around lunchtime dampens the enthusiasm a bit.

We got some free time after the tour for sightseeing and lunch. We left Salzburg as scheduled and on the way back, while everyone was discussing sound of music locations, the tour guide put the movie on the screen which made the drive back to Vienna quite enjoyable and was a fun way to conclude the trip.

So, even though this trip was a bit more expensive than others, I would highly recommend it.

Small Group Day Trip to Salzburg from Vienna
Sep 2019
Marcus did an excellent day trip to Salzburg. He had a good sense of humor and was talkative to the group. Stopped along the way for both WC breaks and take photos of the beautiful countryside. Stopped in the charming village of St. Gilgen for a while before arriving in Salzburg. Naomi in Salzburg did an excellent walking tour of the city and was very detailed in her historical knowledge of the area. Would highly recommend this trip.

Hi Bill B, thanks for the great feedback and for recommending our tour! We'll gladly forward your praise to Markus and Naomi. We are happy that you enjoyed the countryside and the stop in St.Gilgen - it's one of the perks of the small group size compared to larger group tours! Hope to see you back in Vienna one day! An excellent trip!
Sep 2019
A truly excellent day. The vehicle was comfortable with good leg room and our guide, Marcus, was superb. He drove beautifully and took time to ensure that all our needs were catered for and that nothing was too much trouble. He was polite, good humoured and extremely informative. I would highly recommend this trip and the Vienna A La Carte company, which was easy to book through tripadvisor.

Huge Disappointment
Sep 2019 • Couples
First of all as you sent me an email to review tha tour with photo taken by our tour guide it is not our group or tour guide
This tour was very weak especially for the price of more than $225 pp
Can't recommend. Our guide
Julio was very nice but not really personable and somewhat difficult to understand
He tried to give a lot of information but ultimately
I wished he did not talk constantly.
Too much time spent in slake district- OK to get out at at Lake Attersee and take pics, then
A quick stop in St Gilgen would have been fine
So touristy
Saltzburg not too interesting to make it worthwhile to spend 5 hours+ driving there and back
Do not recommend

Dear travelrodent, thank you for taking the time to write a review on TripAdvisor. We are sorry that you were sent the wrong group photo at first. We found out about 10 minutes after sending you the photo and immediately rectified the mistake. You are saying that your guide gave too much information and was not personable (you are also saying that he is a very nice person). While each of our guides and drivers have their own individual style, they always try to adapt to the needs of each guest and to present their knowledge in a captivating and fun way. Julio has only received excellent customer feedback so far but obviously he was not the perfect fit for you that day. We apologise for that because we want each of our guests to have the best experience possible. It is quite rare that guests say that they would have liked to spend LESS time in the Lake Region, particularly in St. Gilgen. More often we hear that guests would have preferred to spend more time in the Lake Region (AND in Salzburg). The itinerary has been designed and fine-tuned based on customer feedback. We try to maximise our guests' precious time and to find the perfect balance between all the beautiful sights on the tour. Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback of our guests we are doing this quite successfully. We are sorry that you did not find the tour worthwhile. The higher price point of our tour compared to other options is explained by the small group size of our tour. We strictly limit this tour to 8 people, ensuring a semi-private atmosphere and making the experience much more flexible, relaxed and enjoyable compared to coach tours with groups of 50 or more. This advantage naturally comes at a price. Thank you again for leaving your review. Your feedback is very important to us. Best regards! Ulrich & the Vienna à la carte team
