About the operator

- Bethbridge8190 contributionsHighly RecommendThis was a really great tour! Personally I would have loved even MORE Sound of Music stops, but I understand that it would have taken up too much of our Salzburg exploration time. Bascialy I need to come back and stay in Salzburg because it's gorgeous and there's so much to see. Loved our guide Joseph and our pretty drive with stops along the lakes. The van was very comfortable with big windows, so you have a view no matter where you sit. Loved this small group experience!Written 8 January 2025
- Buddy8440 contributionsLisa fantastic guideSuper fun and engaging tour! Lisa was a fantastic guide, leading an amazing tour and sharing plenty of great tips for Vienna. She was very kind and helpful!Written 7 January 2025
- Nerr N0 contributionsGreat journey! The road to Salzburg, the views, and the stops along the way were as much an experience if not more than Salzburg itself. Robert, the guide was great and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!Written 28 December 2024
- 12aileend0 contributionsWonderful day trip to Salzburg!!Yosef was an amazing driver and guide!! So friendly and full of information!! He gave us enough stops to eat and use the toilet on the way to Salzburg and back to Vienna. He stopped at beautiful spots to take pictures by the lake and was very helpful on our guided tour in Salzburg!! We got plenty of free time to get lunch and shop and visit other points of interest!! I would definitely recommend this day trip to Salzburg from Vienna with this tour company!!Written 26 December 2024
- LoveTravel18470000 contributionsBreathtaking scenic viewsOur guide Wolfgang was fantastic. Full of stories and bits of every day facts that only Austrians would know. He was engaging and answered all our questions. We only had 7 people in our group so it was a nice size. Several short stops along the way. The lakes we saw were all beautiful and broke up the 3 hour ride. Salzburg was well worth the drive. It gives you a perspective of what the rest of Austria is like outside of Vienna. Looking at the Alps along the way was so peaceful. Salzburg on Saturday was incredibly crowded with both tourists and locals due to the. Christkindlmarkt. Beautiful city and only wish we had more time to wander. It was a long day but worth every minute. If you’re a Sound of Music fan, you will see some spots.Written 14 December 2024
- Kyle U0 contributionsBudapest from Vienna - Day TripSuch a fun day trip from Vienna! Easy 2.5 hour drive. Our driver Wolfgang was great with a very comfortable Mercedes Van for 4 adults. Our guide in Budapest Anita was fantastic as well. Her tour showed her knowledge and passion for the history of Hungary and Budapest. Highly recommend!!Written 8 December 2024

- OferShel0 contributionsExcellent tourExcellent trip to lake area & Salzburg. Guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of information and stories. During first stop we were given some time to walk around the town and see the famous church- we chose to walk to the lake and took beautiful photos. Second stop at lake area also given some time to walk and take photos. In Salzburg given a detailed tour by our guide and then given free time for lunch, shopping or museums. Highly recommend.Written 29 November 2024
- Marf136690 contributionsThis palace rivals Versailles and Fontainebleau.Schoenbrunn Palace was the main summer residence of the Hapsburgs. The name means "beautiful spring". The 1,441 room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. The history of the palace and its vast gardens spans over 300 years, reflecting the changing tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Hapsburg monarchs. Pictured here is the Palace, the gardens, the Hall of Mirrors, the Gloriette designed by Maria Teresa.Written 19 November 2024
- 702essis0 contributionsAmazing Day Trip with A+ guideThis was an amazing day trip, which was well-managed, extremely enjoyable with stops in Austria's lake country along the way and altogether a worthwhile experience that is a must-do in a visit to Vienna. Our guide, Josef, was a pleasure to travel with and talk to. He was ready at the designated meeting spot well ahead of us, and had the vehicle ready. The vehicle was a Mercedes Benz Van which was very clean and in great condition. Throughout the trip, Josef was great at providing very helpful tips and explanations in his great English. Along the way, we made several stops at lakes and interesting spots, some locations of the "Sound of Music". In Salzburg, we had a mix of a guided tour by Josef as well as free time to ourselves to spend on things we enjoyed. We followed a restaurant recommendation from Josef and loved it. Josef was great at managing time and got us back to Vienna exactly at the time advertised in the tour. We have to commend his excellent time-management skills. We would highly recommend this tour and were very very happy we booked it.Written 14 November 2024
- L9202WDelizabethk0 contributionsSuch a great one day trip - highly recommend! After several days in Vienna, I wanted to get out of the city center to explore more of Austria. I stumbled upon this trip and absolutely loved it!! Wolfgang was our guide and he was so great - a very safe and careful driver, incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Our group was a very small group of four, but it was the perfect size to move from place to place. The lake region is BEAUTIFUL in Austria. Every stop was picturesque and the town of Salzburg was delightful. It's a cute, quaint and charming town with so much history. The only piece of advice I have is that once the walking tour is over you don't have too much time in Salzburg so I recommend mentally bookmarking all the places you want to go during your break. Otherwise, great 1 day trip!Written 12 November 2024

I met our guide at Tourist Info Wien (right off the U1 line at Karlsplatz stop). He explained a lot of helpful history to us on the ride over and then had us watch a short documentary of the concentration camp on iPads in the van which was very wise. We got to Mauthausen with a greater and more In-depth understanding of what took place there which made our visit more meaningful. When we arrived we were given audio guides and a map and allowed to wander the camp and it’s museum on our own for a few hours before reconvening. It was pretty desolate aside from a few school groups visiting. Our tour guide was great and even drove us down into the granite quarry so that we could see it up close. We went to lunch at a nice but casual sit down restaurant that served Austrian cuisine. Overall worth the money and I highly recommend this tour.

Tried to book with CityTrip who were useless. Went with Flemming from Expedia booking who were great
Dec 2019
Terrible place and as related to Jews who escaped, I was really upset, and still am, by the horrors. However, it is really worth going, to see why it was so important we won the war, as the Austrians were as horrific as the Germans and actually tried to escape responsibility for their terribel actions until very recently - even said they were the first "victims" until 2010! Very gald our love guide Flemming, was actually Danish, as we found many Austrians were still not accepting of their responsibilty and actually very unpleasant.
I could have spent more time reading, as a lot of information and much to see there. Well organised with hand-held device to give information at each point, but I think there could have been signs to help direction and information on some of the sites.
I am gald that I went and would really recommend Flemming at Expedia as your guide, but it is horrifying and reading more about it since, makes me really unsettled that any human could do these things to other people and enjoy them- I read the commander gave his gun to his 11 year old son to take pot shots at Jews with.

One needs a proper perspective to take a day trip like this. It certainly cannot be considered fun to visit a site where great horror and evil has occurred, but it can be very meaningful. By remembering and understanding the past, hopefully we can avoid anything like this occurring ever again.
The tour pick up point is near to the Albertina museum. We had given ourselves plenty of time to arrive early by tram, but there was an issue with the tram service and we were forced to walk. Our tour guide was in contact by phone and we made it just in time to the meeting point. There were a total of 8 people taking this day trip.
Our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave an overview of the Naschmarkt and other attractions in Vienna as we drove through the city on our way to Linz. Once we got on the open road, there was an informative documentary about Mauthausen for use to watch during the two-hour trip to the concentration camp.
Once at Mauthausen itself, it becomes a self-guided tour using a provided audio guide. I appreciated the opportunity to go at my own pace through the camp. There are many, many exhibits, so one must be conscious of the time when reading through the provided history.
Typically, the quarry itself is not accessible from a visit to the camp, but this tour provides access to the quarry by vehicle. So we were able to spend some time below in the quarry and see the "stairs of death" where many prisoners were forced to carry granite rocks up to the camp on their backs.
After leaving the quarry, we stopped for lunch at the Landzeit restaurant in St. Valentin. It is a large roadside restaurant offering typical Austrian food in generous portions. The drive back Vienna offers time to reflect on the experience and arrives in the city before dinner time.

We were met by our tour guide Fleming in front of tourist information in Central Vienna. Very easy to find and if you need a taxi this will get reimbursed. Comfortable vehicle.
Drive out to camp gave us a chance to experience the beauty of the Vienna countryside. Our guide Fleming was extremely knowledgeable and told the history of Vienna and WW1 and WW2 tying it all together in an understandable way. You then watch a 40 minute documentary on the Camp which gives a visual perspective prior to the camp itself.
On arrival you get a audio guide and move through the camp alone. I preferred this to an accompanying guide as you can spend reflective time in quiet areas. The tour ends in a modern and excellently curated area with very detailed information.
Fleming took us down to the quarry as the Stairs of Death have been closed to the public due to safety reasons.
My 13 year old daughter managed this tour well though there is a part in documentary that is very graphic.
On the way home we stopped for lunch which is not included in the tour.
In my view if you have the time this tour is a must to understand more fully the history of Austria. Thanks Fleming for sharing your knowledge.

Car from Vienna to Mauthausen camp. Appr 2 hr drive. Was given audioguide upon arrival. Went thrue the whole camp. There are several statues from different groups that ended up as prisoners here. Eventhough I have visited other concentration camps I ask myseld how tjings ended up like this. Well worth a visit. After the camp we had lunch before we hit the road again.

The Mauthausen visit was excellent in every respect. On transportation, the small bus provided for a group of about 12 was quite comfortable and would have been so even if full. On guides: first, the tour leader as such was most helpful and most informative; second, the camp guide was perfect, a local person with most helpful material and reflections. On the visit, a full three hours, two hours of guided walking and one hour for individual wandering. The site is decidedly worth a visit for anyone interested in this historical period. I liked the many memorial monuments erected by nations with citizens confined to this camp. Afterwards, on the way back, there is a stop for lunch, not included in the price, at a very pleasant restaurant. An experience that I would highly recommend.

My wife and I enjoyed our day trip to Mauthausen. We learned so much, it was eye opening to see the evils that have taken place in this world. It was a smaller group than we thought, there was a total of 8 of us. Joseph was our driver and gave us a lot of information about Austria. We stopped for lunch on the way back at an Austrian restaurant which was good! If you’re in Vienna and want to tour a concentration camp, we definitely recommend this one.

The tour was a small group and traveled in a van with a very capable guide/driver. It’s about an hour and a half from Vienna so very doable in a day. The camp itself offered an eye opening opportunity to learn about man’s inhumanity to man. I’ve visited Dachau outside of Munich and thought I already knew a lot about the Nazi concentration camps so I was surprised when I learned even more. The area where the camp is located is so beautiful and calm, it provides a sharp contrast to the horrific existence behind the walls and in the quarry down below. Good reminder of “Never Again” during our own troubled times.

Very informative tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and detailed in his explanation and insights into this somber place. I was surprised at how well preserved and intact a lot of the camp was.
If you visit in the fall or winter check the weather and dress warm. This place is atop a hill and if the wind blows it can get cold, you are outside for a good portion of the tour.

This was a very impactful tour for me. The drive was great, the driver was very informative but the best was that I was able to tour the camp on my own with audio guide. I was able to spend as much time as I wanted in each part. Great tour

We would like to take the train from Vienna to Hallstatt, stopping to tour the Malthausen Concentration Camp on the way.
However we will have our luggage with us. Is there a place to store it at the train station or nearby?
Written 3 May 2019
I was on a private tour so did not travel by train. I did not see a place for luggage at the site but they might make arrangements
Written 4 May 2019
we will be in Salzburg for 3 days are you able to travel to the memorial on your own and then gain entrance to the camp and does anyone know what the entrance fee would be doing it this way
Written 1 January 2019
We did the tour but entrance in general is free. You can walk around and see the camp but I highly recommend the self guided audio tour (looks like it’s also free per their website). The route seemed pretty easy, all highway so if you have a rental I imagine it’s an easy trip. It was about 2 hours from Vienna. Good luck.
