- Bethbridge8190 contributionsHighly RecommendThis was a really great tour! Personally I would have loved even MORE Sound of Music stops, but I understand that it would have taken up too much of our Salzburg exploration time. Bascialy I need to come back and stay in Salzburg because it's gorgeous and there's so much to see. Loved our guide Joseph and our pretty drive with stops along the lakes. The van was very comfortable with big windows, so you have a view no matter where you sit. Loved this small group experience!Written 8 January 2025
- Buddy8440 contributionsLisa fantastic guideSuper fun and engaging tour! Lisa was a fantastic guide, leading an amazing tour and sharing plenty of great tips for Vienna. She was very kind and helpful!Written 7 January 2025
- 190bethm0 contributionsPowerfulThis was a powerful trip that will stay with me for a long time. Both the tour guide on the bus on the way to Mauthausen and the guide at Mauthausen were extremely knowledgable. The stop at the Quarry, while short, was one of the highlights of the trip. A definite must for your trip to Austria.Written 2 January 2025
- Nerr N0 contributionsGreat journey! The road to Salzburg, the views, and the stops along the way were as much an experience if not more than Salzburg itself. Robert, the guide was great and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!Written 28 December 2024
- 12aileend0 contributionsWonderful day trip to Salzburg!!Yosef was an amazing driver and guide!! So friendly and full of information!! He gave us enough stops to eat and use the toilet on the way to Salzburg and back to Vienna. He stopped at beautiful spots to take pictures by the lake and was very helpful on our guided tour in Salzburg!! We got plenty of free time to get lunch and shop and visit other points of interest!! I would definitely recommend this day trip to Salzburg from Vienna with this tour company!!Written 26 December 2024
- LoveTravel18470000 contributionsBreathtaking scenic viewsOur guide Wolfgang was fantastic. Full of stories and bits of every day facts that only Austrians would know. He was engaging and answered all our questions. We only had 7 people in our group so it was a nice size. Several short stops along the way. The lakes we saw were all beautiful and broke up the 3 hour ride. Salzburg was well worth the drive. It gives you a perspective of what the rest of Austria is like outside of Vienna. Looking at the Alps along the way was so peaceful. Salzburg on Saturday was incredibly crowded with both tourists and locals due to the. Christkindlmarkt. Beautiful city and only wish we had more time to wander. It was a long day but worth every minute. If you’re a Sound of Music fan, you will see some spots.Written 14 December 2024
- Kyle U0 contributionsBudapest from Vienna - Day TripSuch a fun day trip from Vienna! Easy 2.5 hour drive. Our driver Wolfgang was great with a very comfortable Mercedes Van for 4 adults. Our guide in Budapest Anita was fantastic as well. Her tour showed her knowledge and passion for the history of Hungary and Budapest. Highly recommend!!Written 8 December 2024

- OferShel0 contributionsExcellent tourExcellent trip to lake area & Salzburg. Guide was very knowledgeable and shared lots of information and stories. During first stop we were given some time to walk around the town and see the famous church- we chose to walk to the lake and took beautiful photos. Second stop at lake area also given some time to walk and take photos. In Salzburg given a detailed tour by our guide and then given free time for lunch, shopping or museums. Highly recommend.Written 29 November 2024
- Marf136690 contributionsThis palace rivals Versailles and Fontainebleau.Schoenbrunn Palace was the main summer residence of the Hapsburgs. The name means "beautiful spring". The 1,441 room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. The history of the palace and its vast gardens spans over 300 years, reflecting the changing tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Hapsburg monarchs. Pictured here is the Palace, the gardens, the Hall of Mirrors, the Gloriette designed by Maria Teresa.Written 19 November 2024

There aren’t enough adjectives to express how wonderful the Salzburg day trip is from Vienna so I will simply advise those who are debating taking it to please do so without hesitation. The initial pick up point could not be easier to find (although that didn’t stop one member of our group from being able to locate it - more about that later). Our driver Ben was already parked in place earlier than we were instructed to meet him and kindly introduced himself, refunded our taxi fare on the spot, and recommended a perfect spot to grab some coffee before we left on our way. Since one group member was strangely unable to locate the meeting point Ben gave her an ample grace period before kindly phoning her to let her know that the rest of the group needed to hit the road and couldn’t be further delayed. Once we got going, Ben quickly made up for lost time and had informative narrative to provide as we traveled. The two pre-Salzburg stops seemed to arrive in no time and provided us with adequate opportunity to roam around the respective areas and take in the delightful tableaux. Once we made it to Salzburg, Ben left us in the capable hands of our guide Gaby who was utterly charming and delightful as she walked us all through Salzburg’s wonderful landmarks and made recommendations for our free time that was to follow (she was truly such a memorable pleasure). After spending another few hours enjoying all that Salzburg has to offer, we easily found Ben for our smooth return back to Vienna where we passed the time with The Sound of Music viewing in the sprinter van to tie it all together (because how could you not). NB, the van has free WiFi and is soon to be outfitted with USB ports so you needn’t worry about being adequately juiced for your day.
TL;DR don’t think twice about booking your day trip to Salzburg with Vienna à la carte - this is one that you don’t want to miss.

We were spending only a few nights in Vienna but we REALLY wanted to go see Salzburg (Sound of Music, anyone?!) Though we were apprehensive about joining a tour group at first, we decided it would be great to join this one so we could be more efficient with time, as we could only spend one day in Salzburg.
We really enjoyed doing this tour with Ben, our driver and guide, and we were super comfortable in an awesome van with cushy seats and iPads (so we could re-watch the Sound of Music again, of course!) Ben was very knowledgable and engaging, answered all our questions throughout the drive. He also didn't mind our corny Sound of Music jokes - which I am sure they get a lot of! I particularly enjoyed the view of the hills and lakes we passed by, and we were able to stop at a couple of them for some photos on the way to Salzburg. Our walking tour guide in Salzburg was a lovely lady named Lisa who told us a great bit about the city's history and gave us recommendations on where to eat or other places we could explore in the couple hours we had free to walk around.
I really thought I would be too exhausted by the end of it, because the tour itinerary looked really extensive. But thanks to great time management, a suuuper comfy ride, and really fun and engaging tour guides, it was a breeze! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone off to Salzburg!

Absolutely loved this tour. Our tour guide, Flemming, was an encyclopedia of history and Austria. He narrated our tour to Salzburg pointing out interesting places along the way. We stopped at several places along the way to allow us to see some sites. Salzburg was amazing and so was our local guide. Well worth spending a little extra to go with Vienna a la Carte.

The van driver/tour guide Ton was so incredible. He’s very knowledgeable and gave really interesting information on the drive. You can’t find a better tour guide. Maria, the local on the ground guide in Salzburg, was also terrific. I’m not sure how they managed to provide two wonderful guides. A perfect and very memorable day!

We had a great time on our day trip to Salzburg. Travel there and back was very convenient and comfortable. It was nice seeing the lakes on the way, and our tour through Salzburg was nice and informative. We had plenty of free time to get lunch on our own and check out the attractions that interested us the most. I would highly recommend it.

Vienna a la Carte was the only tour company that was willing to pick us up in Vienna, deliver us to Krems for a Danube cruise, pick us up at the other end of the cruise in Melk, arrange a Melk Abbey guided tour and then drive us to Salzburg at the end of the day.
We really appreciated their flexibility in putting something together that wasn't pre-packaged and we had a great day.

We were met at our hotel by our driver Flemming. He was punctual, friendly and extremely knowledgable. We had a very comfortable van that was supplied with bottled water for the three hour drive to Salzburg. Our driver told us so much about Austrian history and kept us spell-bound the whole way to Salzburg. He drove us through the beautiful lake district and we stopped to take breath-taking pictures. We stopped for a short ice-cream break in St. Gilgen a pretty little village that just happened to be the hometown of Mozarts mother. It was a gorgeous town by the water.
Once in Salzburg we were met by our guide who took us by foot and showed us all the highlights of Salzburg. She was very interesting and knowledgable. We saw many places that were central in "The Sound of Music" movie. We also saw Mozarts childhood home which is now a museum. We walked around the town and went up to the Salzburg Fortress. The views were awesome! We stopped at a local restaurant and ate lunch.
After a great day in Salzburg we met back up with our driver Flemming for the ride back to our hotel in Vienna. He had many more things to tells us about the history of Austria. We were very pleased with our trip and highly recommend it to everyone!

Well informed, safe, and friendly driver to and from Salzburg. So many wonderful things to see in Salzburg - and the local guide was excellent with suggestions of what to do and where to go. Finally, excellent response by staff with helping us locate a misplaced bag.

Very good tour and nice van for our small tour group. Free Wifi and Ipad for each seat in the van, like you taking the plane though. As a small group, we can decided some of our stop too. Must do!

The tour was extremely well organized and timed to maximize our enjoyment of the full day trip to Salzburg. Our driver-guide, Sylvia, is personable, professional, and very pleasant. She is an excellent driver and her commentary contributed to our understanding and appreciation of the history and the culture of the region.

Hi
Can individuals join the tour group?
Can you please share full itinerary of trip, with list of all stops/destinations?
Also, the duration / time at each stop?
Written 3 September 2021
Hi, what is the exact price for the tour for two persons? We plan to join the trip from Vienna and leave the tour at Salzburg.
Trip Advisor showing the prize from $147.70 but when I input my date for two persons, the total price is so high. Thanks.
Written 22 July 2019
Why is it listed "from $147.91" but when I am trying to make a reservation it gives the price of $650 per person? Truly false and misleading listed price just as they say they don't do that...
Written 21 July 2019
I'm guessing it should have read $650 per vehicle depending on how many it held. That's how we were charged when we booked it last year.
Written 21 July 2019
Why in TripAdviser info tour to Salzburg cost per person 148$ but if I add it to cart it recalculate up to 435$ per person where is mistake ? 1.4k for 3 persons
Written 12 April 2019
Which Sound of Music movie locations are included as part of the tour? For example, would you go to the gazebo? :)
Written 23 January 2019
Unfortunately no gazebo since that was constructed on a soundstage as part of the film set. You will most notably visit Mirabell Gardens which will instantly be recognizable as the scene of the “Doe a Deer” choreographed dance sequence as well as some platzes used in exterior shots.
Written 24 January 2019
Hi, I have booked an opera at Staatsoper starting at 7:30pm, could the tour accommodate for this please? Thank you.
Written 30 April 2018
Seriously, almost a £1000 for a barely one day tour that doesn't even include lunch! Is this a joke or a typo?
