- Σταύρος Π0 contributionsNot the best not the worst train in my country there are worseThe train wasn't the best because it was delayed for half an hour when I went with my family but it had many accomodations that's why I gave it a 3/5Written 8 September 2024
- alexanderfL9819XL0 contributionsHorrible first experience in ViennaWe arrived in Vienna on 29/07 at night and wanted to use the transfer from the airport to the city center (included in our Vienna city cards). Before taking the train, we showed them to a CAT member at the airport and he told us "It'd be ok for us to take the CAT train as the transfer from the airport was included in our Vienna city cards". We then took it. However, when the train arrived at its terminus (Vienna city center), a CAT ticket inspector entered our wagon and scanned our Vienna city cards. Result: our card code bars were not recognized by his scanner. Although we tried to explain to him multiple times that we paid for this transfer (we also showed him the voucher for this), he didn't want to listen to any explanation that we gave him and made us pay again for the transfer from the airport ... What a good way to start our Vienna trip. I think that you should rethink the way you choose your ticket inspectors. Intelligent people and good listeners would be welcomed. Thankfully, the Vienna city card assistance center told us that it was a mistake on their part and that we would be refunded from CAT, which just happened some hours ago.Written 22 August 2024

- 522schs0 contributionsHorrible customer service. No will to go above and beyond and assist.I booked tickets with accidental destination using booking.com. Booking has no records of my booking since they claim it was just a portal to buy tickets , however the city airport train station has my reservation on system but refused to help or contact their partner 3rd party. Granted Booking has horrible customer service. No available customer service.Written 27 November 2023

- Sarah C0 contributions16 minutes, awesome! This is a fantastic service from airport to city centre. we had pre-bought our e-tickets on the Vienna City Card app (they were inspected on each journey). The train is modern, light and airy, plenty of room for luggage, clean, overall a delight and great first impression of the cityWritten 14 August 2023
- Doughnut000 contributionsGood serviceFast as anything to get you from the city centre to the airport. Clean, efficient trains every 15 minutes. Puts other cities transport to shame. One thing. It claims you can check in your bags in Vienna, so you can travel hassle free. This is true but only for certain airlines. We travelled with BA and were stuck with our bags for hours.Written 3 March 2023
- 277georgei0 contributionsdon't use Vienna pass card and use public transportAfter spending many hours on the internet i finally concluded that the Vienna Pass Cards is very expensive. With this card you get access almost to every attraction and it is valid for a specific time period (1,2 ,3 days etc). The problem is that if you want to pay less for the attractions you want to visit you must literally fly from one to another. You must visit many per day , something which is practically imposible because of the museum's sizes ( you need several hours to explore each of them) , the distance's between the attractions and the museums closing time. I concluded that it was better to make a list with tha attraction's i wanted to visit and buy seperates ticket for each of them. In some cases you can buy a combination ticket, which i did, for example for the zoo and the ferris wheel. It comes 8euros cheaper in comparsion to seperates tickets. For our transportation we used trains, metro and tram. There is an app (obb) where you can buy a 7 days ticket for about 17 euros for all the transportation means in the inner city. You will need only an extra ticket , which you can buy from the red Obb machines, when travelling from and to the airport. This ticket cost is 1,9 euros per person and it covers the outer city region in addition to the 7 days tickey. I used this app on everyday basis becouse you can tell where you wanna to go and it shows you what to take in order to go where you want. The public transport is quick, clean and very efficient to use.Written 3 October 2022
- lukew8550 contributionsAwesome TrainWe used the CAT to return to the airport and it was a great experience. Makes you jealous how nice and efficient these trains are compared to back home. The seats were immaculate, clean and you can tell things are well looked after.Written 4 July 2022

CAT is an airport express train between the Airport and Wien Mitte Station with departures every 30 minutes. Tickets cost (Single €14.90, Return €24.90 per adult). You can book tickets in advance online, at the many self-service ticketing machines within the airport luggage retrieval area as well as outside the CAT platform.
Train ride is a short 16 minutes, seats are comfortable for a short ride. There is free wifi onboard. They keep the train cars are rather warm inside. In the end, rides are pricier than bus or OBB trains into the city but they are fairly frequent, predictable and a fast way into the city centre.

Yes, you can use the slightly slower local line to reach the city center for a cheaper price, and in hindsight, I should’ve probably done so. But without a comparison to another option like that, I can say with confidence that the CAT is clean, comfortable, spacious, convenient, and very accommodating of wheelchairs (i.e. no advance notice needed). Just flag down an employee on the platform, and they’ll get the ramp to use to roll onto the train. That easy!
I appreciated the inclusion of three languages (German, English, AND Spanish) in the welcome announcements and safety videos (which were very entertaining to watch). There were plenty of areas to store baggage. The Wifi onboard was fantastic, albeit slow.
It is evident that the folks behind CAT have put the effort in to ensure a more glamorous and very seamless, worry-free trip to/from Vienna Airport. Sometimes the peace of mind that you’ll make it to the city center without the need to stop, change lines, or pay hidden fees is what counts, and CAT delivered.

The CAT is highly advertised in Vienna airport and as you can see below even at the entrance to the platform from which it leaves. Unfortunately the 14 Euro charged is not warranted by the 6 min time saving.
Yet from the same platform, the red trains of the OBB also depart for Vienna Centre and beyond for 2.40 Euro. The trains leave from 3 a just round the bend from the flashy green coloured CAT trains.
So forget the Green go for RED the Viennese do!

Very convenient way how to get to airport avoiding traffic a with luxury of space. Trains commuting between city and airport under 20 minutes. Clearly marked by green colour on train and departure hall in train 🚂 stop. Price is much higher than normal train which is perfectly ok for tourists or people not rushing to airport

Horrible trap to catch your money!
As you arrive to the airport is full of vending machines and people selling these tickets.
We made the mistake to buy those tickets realizing only after that is was not going to the city center where we need to go without paying extra money for extra tram/metro on top of an already expensive ticket. We asked the people of the company and they said it was possibile to refound the tickets as this happends often. Result we had to call their customer service and it is not possible! So it burns 2 times now

After a not so good flight with Ryanair it was nice to travel on something that was clean, on time and fast.
My 3 year old loving spotting all the signs from the airport for "the green train" as she called it and it was very easy to find and board.
I had already booked tickets online as wanted to include subway tickets and that was very easy to use
We were in the city in no time

Unexceptionable employees with no manners at all. We booked two tickets for 72 hours ,and the system made a mistake on the dates so we had to change the dates.unfortunately we got a fee for 105 euros cause of that exact mistake that was not our fault. If that wasn't enough the employee at the cat station told us that she couldn't help us and change the dates and that we had to buy two new tickets. So 150 euros lost cause of them mistake

Dear passenger.
We are very sorry to hear that you have had such a bad experience with our product. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused!
For Wiener Linien tickets we are merely resellers. This is why our staff was technically not able to change anything according to this booking.
Concerning our employee’s manners, we can only assume that there was a misunderstanding during the conversation. But we have already forwarded your topic to our team leader.
We apologise the inconvenience and hope to welcome again on board.
Yours faithfully,
City Airport Train team

This is a brilliant, efficient and useful airport train, and usually cheaper and quicker than a taxi. We had a ticket for this and public transport throughout our stay, and it was all good value (did not get the attractions options).
The biggest advantage for us was that when we came to return to the airport, we could check in our bags at lunchtime, and then carry on sight seeing without having to worry about them (only work with certain airlines I believe).
The train arrive at Mitte which is slightly away from the old centre, but there are U-bahn stations nearby.

There is also the CAT (City-Airport-Train) as a separate express train only for the airport transfer between Wien Mitte and the airport. The train reaches the airport in 15 minutes because it does not stop anywhere in between. The ticket costs twice as much as a trip by S-Bahn or train.

Unless you really want to end up at the so called Central Station save your money, get a universal Vienna Travel Card and use the U Bahn / s Bahn network system which also runs from the airport station and is more likely to take you to where you want to go. The City Centre waiting room facility is good but really, you don't need to use this CAT service at all. The crowds heading for the regular platforms at the airport station told us something.

There are lots of signs in the airport pointing to the CAT train - big green signs down the ramp from arrivals. The train departs from Mitte station and the timetable is at the cityairport website, under timetable.
I would post the link but it isn't allowed.
