About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:

- sarahrX4785GI0 contributionsVery badI use hop on hop off all the time but this was the worst experience I’ve ever experienced with them. To start off not one person came to talk to us when we came to the area to but the ticket. They were all too busy talking to each other. Second we asked when the bus ran and no one had an answer. So we got on the first bus that came, it wasn’t what we wanted but it got us to our first stop. There we spent over 45 minutes waiting and no bus should up. At this point we needed to go so now we are out 70 euros and have to walk to our next site. I reached out to Vienna site seeing and told them about this and that I would appreciate a refund but was denied because according to there records no bus was late. If you’re going or in Vienna use big bus company going forward, that bus passed by us about 4 times.Written 23 December 2024
- E1936WXjanetc0 contributionsWorst experience of hop on hop off bus in EuropeIf i could give this company no stars, i would. It doesnt even deserve the one star it got. My Daughter and I paid 70 euro for day tickets. The audio wasn't synced, and the driver didn't stop at some stops on the route. It wasn't hop on hop off. It was hop off and wait an hour for another bus to come along. We spent our day waiting for another bus instead of actually sight seeing! On Wednesday the 18/12/2024 at 10:30am a red bus pulled up and two employees who were selling / scanning tickets stood in the doorway of the bus, chatting to the driver and blocking us getting on, we were quite confused but waited to get on as we assumed they would turn and scan our tickets once they were ready, the next thing we knew the bus drove away, I asked one of the employees (brown hair in a pony tail, small and an unapproachable demeanor, I would assume she hates her job) who had been blocking the doorway was that driver not taking passengers and she aggressively snapped at me saying "why didnt you just get on??" in a loud voice. I then explained that her and her colleague were blocking the door and did not usher anyone on or scan tickets, she was extremely dismissive and hostile and rolled her eyes and walked away. Please save your time and money, I would not recommend this company. Its unprofessional, the staff are extremely rude and most of all you see nothing!!!!Written 18 December 2024
- legendhere0 contributionsThis Isn’t the BestNot really impressed. For the amount of money €30(!) I could have done more. I have never been to Vienna before and wanted to got a sense of the city, I usually take these hop on/hop off tours all over Europe. This one was the worst. The audio was not synced to the tour. The WiFi didn’t work. Then, on my blue line tour the driver pulled over and asked everyone to get out. He told us another bus was coming in five minutes and he was on break. Everyone disembarked, which meant waiting in the cold for the five minutes. I don’t know why he didn’t just tell us all to stay on the bus until the relief bus came. Then, unbeknownst to me, the tour bus turned to red. Without an announcement or informing us we were disembarking a blue line to join a red line. When we stopped at the Opera House, I went to get off thinking I’d catch a red lined the driver rudely informed me I was ALREADY on a red line. Then he played the audio saying red line bus five or six times to drive home the point during the tour, meaning we weren’t synced. Not impressed at all.Written 16 December 2024
- DCCountryBoy0 contributionsGreat ValueThis trip was a wonderful way to explore the Wachau Valley and countryside around Vienna. Our family found it an excellent use of time and money. The bus is comfortable and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, and fluent in English, French and Spanish. We enjoyed the stop in Durnstein before boarding the boat to Melk. The Wachau Valley was beautiful in the fall with spectacular scenery around every bend. We tour enables you to take the bus up to the Monastery, making the most of your time. Very professional driver and guide - well worth it!Written 18 November 2024

- galahad240 contributionsWorthy visit to BratislavaThe tour itinerary followed as advertised. Arriving in the city , a local guide will be with you at most 2 hrs , then the rest will be your own time. Since the catamaran trip back to Vienna is at 6:30pm you have enough time to roam discover tiny street around old town, and picturesque buildings. After sometimes the allocated time by your own is too much , might get bored waiting for the catamaran trip back to vienna . Recommended a day trip to Bratislava.Written 5 November 2024
- Moonsubstats0 contributionsThey didn’t tell us they had canceled the cruiseUnfortunately, we arrived , there was no ship, they had canceled it first bother to inform us . No one contacted us, we took a taxi , there wasn’t even a person at the desk , it was all closed up. If you book, make sure they are actually availableWritten 26 October 2024
- 323gautierd0 contributionsInteresting but not mandatoryI’m probably not a good fit for this of tour but, even though I have appreciated the landscape, I certainly could avoid it.Written 17 October 2024
- anns7430 contributionsNot worth the $The bus tours were disappointing. The representatives at the stops were rude and unfriendly. If you just use it as transportation it is ok, but not worth the ticket. They advertise free WiFi on board, when I told the rep it didn’t work, her response was oh well it broke. Skip it and use the trams.Written 14 October 2024
- MaxOregon0 contributionsYou either love or hate the hop on hop off experience, and this was no different than any other we’ve experienced. We have traveled all around Europe, and often use busses like this in cities where we don’t know a lot about them. As such, they provide a good service of providing an overview of a city with historical or practical commentary. Clearly, if we knew everywhere we wanted to go, mass transit would be a better and cheaper option. Also, there are very few of these busses we’ve been on where some of the audio ports didn’t work, or some employees viewing customers as eye-roll inducing ignoramuses (it’s not a great job for anyone). But they do provide an appreciated service, and this particular one was pretty much the same as we’ve experienced all over Europe. We did wonder what a tour in the summer might be like, because even in October with the sun shining through the all the glass on the top, the upper level became positively roasting, with no air conditioning and no way to open windows. My guess would be to try to find an open air bus in the summer and wear a hat and sunglasses.Written 13 October 2024
- DebzG860 contributionsA worthwhile day trip out of ViennaReally enjoyed this day trip. We started off by visiting the small town of Durnstein. Not much to it but we did enjoy trying (& subsequently buying!) some apricot liqueur. We then got the bus to Spitz, where we picked up the boat for a leisurely 90 minute cruise along the Danube. Thoroughly enjoyed this section of the day as we got a couple of drinks & sat on the top deck & enjoyed the views as we sailed along. We then arrived at Melk but we hadn't booked the Abbey tour. This meant we had a good 2 hours to relax and enjoy a nice lunch and also explore the town. We did visit the Abbey & got to see most of the outside as well as the Abbey shop where we purchased some wine! I would definitely recommend this tour if you've got the time when visiting Vienna.Written 30 September 2024
- dale_river0 contributionsA worthwhile day tour from ViennaThe tour was pretty well organized. There was some confusion at the Opera meeting point—it was raining and the bus arrived late. However, once we took our seats, everything went as described. Our multilingual guide, Tomy, gave the commentary in English and Spanish. The visit to Durnstein was brief (use euro coins for the bus stop WC!), but the village itself, though charming and surrounded by vineyards, is quite small. The Danube cruise from Spitz aboard the MS Durnstein was scenic and relaxing. We ate in the floating restaurant, which was affordable and pleasant. Once in Melk, we waited around in the rain for our tour of the magnificent abbey, guided by a nice young woman, who showed us some of the highlights in the museum and library. The abbey restaurant was also a welcoming spot for a break (yummy coffee & pastries). Despite the rain, the entire all-day experience was worth it, and we're glad we took time out of our stay in Vienna to see some of the Austrian countryside.Written 17 September 2024
- Dean G0 contributionsClean bus and friendly staffGood fun, staff were friendly and the bus was clean. The routes are a bit drawn out so you end up driving a lot and getting stuck at the many traffic lights. On a sunny day you get decent views passing through the city. There are complimentary earphones and an audio guide in many languages available. The paper map was good too.Written 15 September 2024
- F4464MValanp0 contributionsBeautiful day on the DanubeThis is a full day tour involving a 90 minute bus ride each way. First stop is an old town which is cute, but not much to see there other than tourist stores and ice cream shops. Then boarded a boat for a 90 minute boat ride up the Danube. Beautiful scenery and a nice way to spend the day if the weather is nice. But there is only a few seats outside that are shaded, so hard to be on the deck on a hot sunny day. The other two decks are basically enclosed restaurants with service. You can see well through the windows and the air conditioning is good, but would be better if there were more shaded areas with an outside breeze. After the boat ride is the town of Melk, a beautiful old town with an abbey well worth the trip. Plenty of time for lunch at a restaurant in town, but the walk back up to the abbey in time for the tour is quite a climb.Written 6 September 2024

Well hosted, truly beautiful daytrip.
Both the trip itself, up through the alps, was a sight to behold. All the while taught the long, interesting and influential history of Hallstatt. And the actual stay in Hallstatt- were truly 5/5.
We did have perfect weather, which may have influenced the experience further.
We recieved well rounded advice from out tour guide regarding what was possible, how to time the excursion, even which ATMs were trustworthy.
The tour included a stop at a road house en route, arrival, a boat tour across the lake, and approximately three hours of roaming with no further guidance.
The only caution I would raise, is that it is an expensive excursion. But I'm sure most would expect that anyways.

Tour operator was good enough to pick up from the hotel.
The Tour was good and the guide provided excellent details
As per the tour we booked for the tour along with the skywalk, but the tickets to the transportation by the cable car was not provided. And due to a long queue at the ground station no one from this trip could go to the skywalk.

A must visit tour you should get either in combination with the activities the place has to offer or just for the unique landscaping and the church
We booked the one that included the sky walk, salt mines, and the cable cars with the panoramic view, although the guide we had was not very organised so we missed the ride with the cable cars since there were no tickets left by the time we got there, but we did took the liberty of arranging the boat ride on our own
Book in advance your tickets
Get comfortable shoes (boots if you visit during winter. It is very slippery in some parts)
Do not try local snacks if you have the chance to get them in Vienna. They are cheaper and a lot tastier.

Let's start with the good parts:
- Hallstat is a superb village and well worth the trip
- the bus which provides return, costs almost the same as the train
- the driver seems serious and professional, with a comfortable bus and large windows
The bad sides:
- the supposed meeting point starts at 7:00 a.m., which turns into improvisation (latecomers expected +15 minutes, no line during the check list), Chinese tourists have no education)
- the famous break, this transforms into reality a partnership for the agency responsible for the day towards the restaurant chain: landzeit. So at the start we lose another +36 minutes, just because the agency will impose a 36-minute break in their partner restaurants and the same on the return +35 minutes in their partner restaurants.
- what I didn't appreciate was the lack of honesty on their part, this whole "force break" mechanism is just a program imposed by the agency for tourists, mainly Asian. I don't find that honest...
- what I also didn't appreciate was that during their break, the bus driver asked everyone to go out into the cold and closed his bus. History that is directed towards their partner restaurants....
- we arrive at the village of Hallstat around 11:43 a.m. for a return at 3:30 p.m. which means that that doesn't leave much time to visit the village.

The scenery is one of a kind. Unfortunately, it has become a large tourist trap. Too many people - some are loud and some are inching their way get their IG poses, regardless. What may used to be a serene place to visit has now become a place to waste more money that I was surprised that water on tap is not being offered in restaurant. I have learned that during my recent travel to EU, tips are no longer voluntary for services - it is being asked for and sometimes being demanded. Such a shame. But, nevertheless, we enjoyed the scenery, except for unruly and sometimes rude tourists that we have encountered.

It’s a very beautiful little town stunning scenery and architecture but there’s nothing to do other than wander around and see the waterfall. If you go get there early, we arrived 9.30am and it was reasonably quiet in early June but by 11.30am it was filling up quickly mainly with hoards of Japanese tourists. It’s also a tourist rip off place parking’s extortionate as are the restaurants and cafes, €12 for a pancake 🙄 really! Take note! all the businesses only take cash and the Atm’s charge a shocking fee to withdraw cash, and I didn’t see a mention of a charge before hand. I was charged €6.50 for withdrawing €50. If I had the choice again I wouldn’t bother going.

It's most likely you'll leave Hallstatt feeling over the moon. However, it's not due to the guide's involvement, it's simply because the place is divine. Now the reasons behind my 2 stars are mostly because I genuinely don't understand where the expenses go, I'll give it that it's a long drive, and the guide certainly didn't make it easier because she kept going on about what started off as interesting but was too long-winded to keep paying attention to that it ended up being exhausting. You pay for the transport and the 10-15 minute boat trip!
Additionally, we were approximately 70 people, it felt like factory-tourism and it was too expensive for that! There was no room for any personalisation, it felt like a school day trip with a students that just met up and a teacher that didn't care to know anything about them!
Also, the time we had at Hallstatt wasn't enough to scratch the surface, you had to choose what to do because we couldn't do more than 1 activity, and the office wasn't affiliated with any museum/restaurant/ etc (unlike all of the tours I've been to yet).
For me it was my 2nd time in Hallstatt, I know the potential that this town has and I know it's not hard to leave feeling amazed and over the moon, but even though we left it knowing it was a day to remember, I feel like it left the office feeling like they didn't need to plan anything other than a pickup and dropoff to contribute to the natural experience that is to be had in this beautiful town.
Out of all of my experiences with day tour providers, I'd rate this as my most independent, most restrictive, and poorest in terms of what we could have done vs what we actually could do.

Do not book this tour in the winter! The shops were 70% closed. The ones that were open closed at 3p or earlier but the bus only leaves at 4p. The guide we had was nice enough but his English was very poor - almost impossible to understand. If weather is off even slightly you can't see anything from the funicular. The mine was closed. The boat trip was unavailable (which was disclosed, but with the promise of a more comprehensive walking tour which this guide was unable to provide. Way too expensive for this level of value.

Quite possibly the worst tour I have been on anywhere. The bus is freezing and the driver talks disrespectfully to the passengers. Tour guide would not stop talking about uninteresting facts the entire ride there. 45 and 30 minute breaks for the driver both ways?!? I don’t understand why the driver needs a 45 minute break for a 3.5 hour drive, especially when he was sleeping on the bus the whole time we were actually in Hallstatt. Hallstatt itself is beautiful, but there is absolutely nothing to do in the town. Is is a 14 hour trip with little to no reward. Save yourself the trouble and the money. Most miserable experience.

Terrible
Travelling about 10 hours to spend 4 hours in a pretty but not remarkable place wandering around makes no sense. The guided tour of the town barely happened and the short boat ride and then bus back to the town was a waste of time. A terrible waste of a day when we could have spent the time better enjoying Vienna.

Thank you

Hi there,
If Tripadvisor or Viator were fully book. You can try to book personally when you are in Vienna. There many travel operator near the Opera house or you can even ask from those people or usher from the Big Bus tour or Sightseeing tour.
Or if no other choices you can change the date of your tour in Hallsatt, December is peak season also in Hallstatt because there many tourist from Japan, Korea, China which they occupy the beautiful serene small city of Hallsatt.:(
Hope it can help

To whom it may concern,
I am very interested in this tour but have some questions.
(1) how do we get from Vienna to Hallstatt? By bus or by train? And how long is the duration?
(2) Will we be stopping at Aplin lakeside?
Thanks and regards
Written 12 September 2019
(1) By Bus, around 5 hrs journey (including breakfast & stop in Schloss Orth, Tarunsee lake)
(2) In Hallstatt after coming down from Skywalk, exit is from souvenir shop, there you can do shopping. Aprt from that time for shopping will be less, as bus will start back for Vienna by 4PM (means 3-3.5 hrs will be there to explore Hallstatt)
Hope it helps... :)
