- 890baileyk0 contributionsBucket List Experience with TomásMy husband and I attended two tours with Wandering Owl, and had the absolute privilege of having Tomás as our guide for both of the trips! It was comforting to know our trip was done ethically and sustainably. Tomás provided the perfect balance of knowledge and humor - not to mention he took beautiful photos! We'll cherish these memories and pictures forever. Although luck may have played a big part in us seeing two magnificent shows (dancing lights, multiple colors), we couldn't have experienced it as incredibly as we did without Tomás! His knowledge of the area and driving skills allowed us to experience the lights all night. Thank you again, Tomás, for creating two perfect evenings! <3Written 25 January 2025
- Gelibeg0 contributionsA magic night with expert guides!Isaac and Michael did an amazing job finding secluded spots with clear skies to see the lights, even on a night that was overcast and snowy at times. They found two sites and we made a campfire in one after walking up a short hill in the snow. The temps were well below zero but we weren’t cold at all with the thermal suits and boots provided. The aurora were spectacular and Isaac took some great portraits of us, the group and the lights. He was so friendly and engaging and I learned a lot about the lights that I didn’t know. It was a magical night, especially because we had our own space rather then being in crowded sites with the big buses. I would recommend this tour to anyone.Written 24 January 2025
- mariajB9257LX0 contributionsGet in the bus, aurora is waiting!Despite cloudy sky that night we managed to see wonderful aurora thanks to good monitoring done by the crew :) Friendly and helpful guides, hot drinks and yummy soup, thermal suits included. Highly recommended!Written 24 January 2025

- 247megb0 contributionsFound Northern Lights in difficult conditionsLucas and Michael literally went extra miles to find the Northern Lights despite cloud cover coming quickly. We had 2 opportunities to see the lights and it was amazing. I am Australian and it was -22 degrees which was a very new experience, but the boots and suit provided made a HUGE difference. Lucas had a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm. BOOK THIS!!Written 23 January 2025

- georgessau0 contributionsAn unforgettable experience with Tomás!We had a magical evening in Tromsø thanks to Tomás, our exceptional guide. His expertise on the northern lights was truly impressive, and he took us to the best spot to enjoy this unique spectacle. Despite the initially planned schedule, he extended the experience, giving us over 5 hours in the main spot of observation and sharing. Tomás took great care of us throughout the evening: a delicious soup, coffee, hot chocolate, and captivating stories around a warming bonfire that enriched the experience. All the weather conditions were perfect, and thanks to him, we were able to live an absolutely incredible moment. Thank you again, Tomás, for this unforgettable evening! If you're looking for a passionate and caring guide to see the northern lights, look no further. GeorgesWritten 20 January 2025
- Bickmiester0 contributionsAbsolutely stunning scenery and perfect hostAmazing Northern Lights Tour with Thomas! Thomas was absolutely fantastic as our Northern Lights tour guide! His knowledge and expertise made the entire experience unforgettable. Not only did he help me adjust my camera settings to capture stunning photos of the Northern Lights, but he also went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable throughout the night. He even made me a warm cup of tea and checked in regularly to ensure I stayed warm and cozy despite the cold. Thomas’ care and attention to detail made all the difference, and his friendly and upbeat attitude added to the magic of the evening. An amazing ambassador for the environment and a beautiful soul. If you're looking for a guide who’s passionate, skilled, and genuinely cares about making your experience perfect, Thomas is the one to choose. He was determined to take the most perfect pictures of us all . Thank you for such an incredible adventure, Thomas!Written 20 January 2025
- 974rochellew0 contributionsUnforgettable TimeThe tour was incredible! The northern lights showed up and made the night absolutely perfect. Tomas, our guide, was awesome—great storyteller, picked the best spots, shared interesting facts, played good music, and even took amazing photos. Plus, I made new friends with an awesome group. 10/10 would recommend Wandering Owl!Written 20 January 2025
- fayzanr20250 contributionsGo with this group!Mia and Lucas are the absolute best. They truly took us hunting for the Aurora. It was a cloudy day and are chances were not great. They rallied us, took us to Finland, and helped us find an opening on the cloudiest of days to get a glimpse of the Aurora. While it was difficult to see the lights that day (for reasons way beyond their control), they created an amazing atmosphere, shared great stories and mythology around the Aurora, and ensured we had a pleasurable and awesome experience. My fiance and I will never forget the experience. Lastly, its rare to find tour operators who do this reguarly who have maintained their enthusiasm and joy for their work. Mia and Lucas passion for the lights really came through and their energy carried us during times when we hit setbacks on seeing the lights. Highly recommend. Best tour and tour operators in the Tromso area!Written 20 January 2025
- lperesson0 contributionsBest New Year's Eve ever !!Incredible experience accompanied by Anna and Maciej who did everything to make sure we had a wonderful evening. We had the best New Year's Eve ever! Anna's explanations were very interesting and helped us understand a lot about the Northern Lights, but also about Norwegian culture. Maciej was an incredible driver. As an added bonus, Anna provided us with her magnificent photographs and saved us our camera settings so we could immortalize the spectacle. We highly recommend Wandering Owl to anyone who wants to hunt for the Northern Lights in a very friendly atmosphere.Written 19 January 2025
- S5683XUrebeccat0 contributionsBrilliant guides, excellent location, beautiful aurora picturesWe booked an aurora hunt directly with wandering owl after reading excellent reviews on Facebook, and we are so glad we did! We had 5 nights in Tromso and the first 4 were solid cloud and snow storms with no chance at all of seeing the lights! We booked on our last night out of desperation that if anyone would get us to see them then it would be the wandering owl! Javi scoured his apps looking at the weather and aurora updates and decided the best chance was to head to Skibotn. Marcin drove us south towards the Finland border while we all kept our fingers crossed for a chance at some gaps in the cloud. We arrived at a beautiful private spot at about 9.30pm. Surrounded by mountains and snow the gaps did indeed come!! For about half an hour we were treated to the aurora dancing across the sky in front of us! Javi took photos of us all and then gave excellent help and advice on how to photograph the lights ourself. He provided tripods to those that needed them. We then all sat around a campfire listening to interesting facts about the aurora and Norway history. Dinner was a delicious homemade soup, followed by hot drinks and cookies. When it was time to leave Marcin was kind enough to drop us home to our air BnB even though it was slightly outside the city centre. We are so glad we chose the wandering owl for our aurora hunt. It truly was a night to remember forever.Written 18 January 2025
- D8743MHmarinab0 contributionsWonderful northern lights company!Tomas was a wonderful guide! It was a snowy evening and the chances of seeing the lights were very low. Nevertheless, Tomas tried his very best to find the lights. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them but he still made it a great time for everyone involved. We had a super fun photoshoot and fun sitting around the campfire, chatting. He educated us on the history of Norway as well as the future of the arctic & the science of the lights. I went on another tour with another company that did not do all of the education that this company did. Overall, it was an excellent adventure all thanks to our guide & good vibes in the group. Thank you wandering owl!Written 18 January 2025

Excellent snowshoeing tour with Karolis. Very knowledgeable, interesting and enthusiastic. He picked a superb desolate location out of the wind approx 1 hour out of The city and somehow we missed the snow that was in Tromsø most of the morning. Just 4 of us walking in fresh snow with lovely light. Lunch stop with delicious sandwiches, vegan hot chocolate and cookies - and panoramic views of wintry countryside. In fresh snow, this is a medium level activity, and you need to pick feet-up. But nice easy pace and ultimate serenity. Highly recommend. Thank you.

An awesome experience! The tour started in Tromsø, where we met our tour guide Peter. The group was just 8 people from all over the world. I liked that international atmosphere. Peter was very knowledgeable about the area and explained a lot. All questions were answered. He took us first to a nice spot at the fjord to show us the scenery and then to a small parking lot in the mountains, where the adventure started. The tour was uphill, about 130m/430ft elevation gain and took about two hours for the round trip. On top of the peak, there was a nice picknick with sandwich, cookies and hot chocolate. The view of the mountains and fjords was breathtaking. Peter took beautiful pictures of everyone, much better, than any selfie can be... It was a great tour and I can recommend this tour to everyone, who wants to be a little more active than just sitting in buses for sight seeing (which is also very nice, of course)

We went for 4 nights and managed to fit three main trips with the northern light chasing and the Reindeer and Fjords. This trip was booked when our dog sledging trip was cancelled (by another company ). This trip ended up being the highlight of our trip to Tromso and highly recommend and combined really well with the trip the day before in a minibus to the Fjords and feeding the reindeers. In that trip we covered more distance and a few quick stops at different locations. In this trip we were able to enjoy ad feel part of the artic scenery and really appreciate the landscape. Our guide Anthony was fantastic and was able to connect with everyone in our group with a variety of nationalities and hiking experiences. We were a group of 13 in the bus but then split into two smaller groups which worked well with one group more experienced with hiking/snowshoeing. The snowshoes were easy to use and the location was incredible with the top point having a view up the Fjord withy the sea in the distance and surrounded by mountains to the sides and behinds. Anthony went out of his way to help take photos/videos with peoples cameras and took a number with his camera which was high quality and these have been shared for us to download. The lunch provided was excellent and the homemade cookies and hot chocolate great to finish and give energy boost for the return trek. I would love to go back in the summer months and would prioritise this trip and company (and guide).

I went on two tours with wandering owl; an aurora hunt and a snow shoe tour. Both were really great and professional! My guide was Virgil both of the times, and he brought some good vibes with him; you can see he knows the landscape and enjoyed taking us to a lot of beautiful places around tromsø!
Because there was to much wind the conditions were dangerous, we could go see fjords instead or get a full refund.
Our group wanted some adventure and we went anyway. Glad we did because I got to see a lot this day!! We drove for hours each time stopping at beautiful places to walk around. Also Virgil made some professional photos he shared with us, I think this is a big plus!
All in all I had a really good time with Wandering owl and saw a lot around tromsø :)

We today completed the “small group snowshoeing tour from Tromso” with Wandering Owl. Our guide Max was attentive and caring from the outset, he was enthusiastic and engaging on our journey. Once we arrived, Max provided us with all the equipment we required and we set off on our hike. We were able to ask Max all sorts of questions and have a really friendly conversation, he was extremely knowledgeable and provided boundless information throughout. The tour itself was not too strenuous and we took regular breaks to admire the views, which were breathtaking. We also saw an abundance of wildlife including Moose, Reindeer and White Tailed Eagle, which was amazing! All the way along Max was taking photos of us and our group. We had a lovely lunch at the top of our hike before making our way back down. On the way back to Tromso we even got a glimpse of the northern lights which Max was happy to stop and take a photo of us. Overall, this was a fantastic tour with some stunning scenery, but I must say our guide really made this day memorable for us

Went on my first snowshoeing tour in Tromsø with the guide Anthony. It was a truly magical experience on a sunny day in a white landscape. Anthony was an amazing guide and chose a mountain top with a stunning view. He was both talkative and informative and tried to include and talk with everybody in the group. The hiking pace depended on the group, so everyone could follow, and we made a few stops along the way to take photos. There was plenty of time to take photos and he would also take photos with his own camera of the group/individuals and share them afterwards. The photos were really good. It was a small group tour of maximum 8, so it felt very personal. I can highly recommend this snowshoeing tour with a small group and professionel guide! It was an absolutely memorable experience!

This was our favourite activity we did in Tromso - we had never done snowshoeing before and we really enjoyed it, and the scenery was just incredible. Our guide was amazing, so friendly and enthusiastic, it was obvious he really loves his job and is passionate about nature. He also took some really cool pictures of us and helped us take some of our own. And even provided really tasty homemade soup and biscuits for everyone!
Being in a small group made it a bit more personal (there were 7 of us in our group), and we also really liked the fact that it was just an hour drive each way which left a lot of time for actually snowshoeing and admiring the views. As a bonus we even managed to see the Northern Lights right at the end as we were heading back to the van!

Well organised relatively short hike in the island of Kvaloya where you can see great landscapes and admire Tromso from the mountains. Our guide Peter was great - really knowledgeable about the area, he took care of us and entertained the group with interesting stories about Tromso.
Definitely recommend if you like small groups hiking to get a more personalized experience!

Hello there and thank you for the excellent feedback from your time with our professional guide, Peter.
We love receiving feedback from our guests, it motivates our team during these cold winter months to give our guests the best possible experience with us. Of course, as you know we can not promise anything to do with the weather (like Aurora activity) but we can promise a positive experience; home-made meals, hot chocolate and biscuits - all made freshly (and with love) in our Owls Nest. It has been a pleasure to have you on tour with us and we hope to welcome you back to Tromso again one day.
All the best!

We joined for a hike in October. Gerard, our guide, was excellent! He took us to a really quiet spot and then led us up to a lovely viewpoint for lunch (great coffee!). There was a good amount of hiking on challenging terrain (would recommend hiking footwear) and Gerard did a great job of handling a mixed-ability group.

Amazing snowshoeing experience with Anthony, our devoted and enthusiastic guide. The tour is very accessible, revealing breathtaking landscapes all along the hike. Appreciable snacks and hot beverages on the top (especially the hot chocolate), then meal together at the end. Small party of 8 people feels more intimate, perfect to avoid overcrowded activities.

A group of 7 of us is interested in the snowshoe hike on Dec 19. Do we need to book it this far in advance or can we wait until we see if there will be snow? Thanks, Janet
