About
We run away from the city center to idyllic landscapes of Kvaløya to enjoy: blue hours of polar night, snow, sun or snowstorms and to try snowshoeing the easy way - without climbing high mountains. Before return we visit the local gem hidden on the shore in Ersfjord - Bryggejentene café - to relax over a cup of coffee, tea or chocolate and their famous cakes.

Wednesday, June 12th E-bike day rentals.
My wife and I arrived shortly after opening at 10am. We had visited with them the day before, asking about renting e-bikes. We were greeted right away, and were out the door with our E-bikes by 10:30am. Everyone that we met from Tromso Outdoor was great! So friendly and helpful. Before we left the building we went through all of the rental formalities, including renting a saddle bag for my bike, to carry all of our stuff. A full day rental is 24hrs, but we had intended only to rent until just before shop closing time of 1700hrs. Our E-bikes worked great. We made something of a clockwise partial loop of the island, cutting through the middle of the island on the main bike trail. Along the way we stopped at the University museum, the ski jump area, and the botanical garden area. We had a great time touring the area on our e-bikes. And it was a joy to do business with Tromso Outdoor. We would certainly return if we have the chance.

      Mixed experience
I hired a ski touring set up for two days. They were very helpful about changing my days of hire to fit the good weather and the gear was generally in good condition. However when I returned the gear I was charged for a top side scratch on the skis. It was only 100kr but to my mind a minor scratch like that is part of the usual wear and tear of using the skis. Hiring this gear was not cheap. So please beware, the expectation seems to be that hire gear has to be treated exceptionally carefully and any minor scuffs have to be paid for by the customer.

      Great experience.
Our guide, Leah, was fantastic. She had a lot of tips to make the experience more enjoyable. We highly recommend this if you are inexperienced xcountry skiers like us.

      Ski rentals
Rented cross country skis here for 24h, so we could go at our own schedule. They were helpful in picking out the skis and making recommendations on routes. No issues at all with the returns, everything went smoothly. Professional and courteous staff, would gladly use again if in Tromsø.

A must-do activity for nature lovers
We had the best tour with the best guide Mikkel who inspired us with his love and enthusiasm for nature and the activity. We learned a lot during a marvellous hike in pure nature and the most stunning views. Definitely will tour with you again or try all other offers of the company next time!

      Nice way to begin cross-country
Marie was a wonderful teacher: patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. The area where we did the activity was groomed for it, and very easy to get used to. Once we got used skiing in the flat area, we went to a couple of small slopes to practice breaking. We got also a small break in a beautiful area by a lake and enjoyed some hot tea and a Norwegian snack.

      Wonderful experience
I had a wonderful experience with Tromsø outdoor and their guided snowshoe hill hike. It was supposed to be a hiking experience on Kvaløya but unfortunately the weather forecast wasn't good and therefore our guide took us to another location. I had a blast! Cannot recommend this highly enough.

      Snowshoe hike on Kvaloya
We really enjoyed our trek with Mikkel and Tromso Outdoor. My family of four did the snowshoe hike and it was a truly wonderful experience. We had beautiful weather and found the guide to be really knowledgeable, experienced and passionate. The hike was as described but the views were more wonderful then we could have imagined. Thank you Mikkel for a wonderful day we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tromso and will definitely be back to experience more.

      Excellent lesson.
Fabulous lesson, lots of fun. Really well taught so that by the end we felt we knew enough to be able to go out and give it a go on our own.

Highly recommend to begin learning how to ski!
Really Great for beginners!! After that lesson and free time to practice what we’ve learned I was sweating and felt like I just did a workout. Was great. Kudos to Tomi for being so patient, the group that i was with was a family who was quite difficult to deal with but Tomi taught them and handled them well. Highly recommend to experience, and for sure will try skiing again. We also had some good hot grape juice wine? And pastries in between.

Excellent experience run by a really friendly and caring group
Had a wonderful afternoon fatbiking with Mikel who was super patient and considerate. He got us started on the bikes, took us on to a lake to experience loose snow. Took us to the ski jumps which we climbed to sit and have a snack. He told us lots about things in Tromso on the frequent breaks necessary for me to catch my breath. Thank you Mikel. Before the tour the folk in the shop were lovely allowing us to leave our luggage in their store while we went away for lunch and then during the tour. They seen to be a really helpful, caring bunch of people.

      Amazing experience!
Highly recommended! We were very unlucky with weather, making for high avalanche risk at the intended hike location. But the Tromsø Outdoor team had a good backup hike taking us up smaller, less treacherous inclines, and around a lake. We are fit and healthy, and found the hike easy, but the views and our guide, Mikkel, made the whole experience totally worth it :)

Our first snowshoeing family hike and we could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. Our guide, Mikkel was excellent and made it an enjoyable time. Service-oriented and attentive, he fitted us with perfectly sized snow boots, and the snowshoes and trekking poles were in good condition. Mikkel provided interesting nuggets of information regarding the local landscape, culture, wildlife, avalanches, how to make a snow cave etc. The hike itself was fun, with amazing winter scenery and an ever-changing weather that added to the experience. We savoured the authentic norwegian snacks for hiking - lefse and hot blackcurrant juice - that Mikkel brought along for us to try. A perfect way to end the hike with a delicious hot chocolate/ coffee and yummy sweet pastry at the picturesque Bryggejentene cafe! Thanks a million, Mikkel and Tromso Outdoor team, for the memorable experience!

Many, many thanks to Lukas and his boss for a wonderful experience. It was my first time snow shoeing, but it was much, much more than that. It was a cultural experience, an environmental appreciation and the genuine relaxed conversation with 2 really experienced, highly professional and genuinely personable guys.
We went for snowshoeing and came away with so much more!
