Kirkwall is the largest town in Orkney, an archipelago in the north of mainland Scotland.
What to expect – your local guide will take you around Kirkwall, the largest town in Orkney, which is situated on the northern coast of mainland Orkney
We will explore St. Magnus Cathedral founded in 1137 by the Viking, Earl Rognvald, in honour of his uncle St Magnus.
Then we will visit two buildings full of history in the heart of Kirkwall: Bishop´s and Earl´s Palace. Bishop’s Palace is one of the best - preserved buildings from medieval times.
Once this visit is finished, we will head to Albert Street. Your local guide will meet you up at the meeting point and take you back to the ship.

He was very knowledgeable and helpful. One of our group has mobility concerns and he very much took care of us and kept that in mind without having to avoid seeing the island. The weather was also beautiful, showcasing the beauty of the islands brilliantly. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone coming to the area. Guide and coverage for Edinburgh in one day was excellent. Princess cruises.offered excursions as well. We received value and quality that was far superior with Pilar. No need to look further. I have mobility issues, so Davy arranged our itinerary to maximize my adventures while minimizing any walking. It was a lovely day, and I wanted to tour the coastline and see the ancient ruins so off we went. Davy introduced me to the local Cullen Skink (fish stew), and we shared the fish and chips, delicious. Great communication from beginning to end. Highly recommend.Written 30 July 2024

I love the fact that booking through TA gives me immediate communication with the tour company. I was able to discuss my mobility issues, traveling with a foldable walker, and my ideas for an itinerary that would limit walking well in advance so that Rob could come up with a plan. Michael gave us a thorough and enthusiastic walk and talk through the history of Kirkwall. A highlight was the visit to Saint Magnus Cathedral. Michael was full of stories about the place and really brought it alive for us. I wondered how a walk-through this relatively small town could be made interesting over a four hour period but the time flew past, albeit with a brief stop in a cafe on the way. Thoroughly recommend it!

Helen was very patient and introduced every important historical location in town with great details. Lots of old stories about local customs, language and archaeology were told. Really appreciate the whole tour!
