When I stumbled upon 176 (and counting!) 5-star reviews and saw the pricing for a full day of private sailing with drinks, snacks and lunch included, I thought it wasn’t real. But I am so glad it IS! Captain Mike met us at the Lavagna train station (we trained in from Milan) and swept us away on his beautiful sailboat. With plenty of drinks (I’m not telling his secret to the perfect Aperol Spritz), snacks and an INCREDIBLE lunch, Captain Mike found us a quiet harbor where we spent hours swimming (bring towels and sunscreen and maybe a snorkel mask if you are so inclined) and taking in the scenery. Mike’s hospitality and stories made our day even more enjoyable. This is the absolute perfect way to spend a day and while Mike insists he “isn’t doing anything particularly special”, he really is. I HIGHLY recommend connecting with Mike of you want to enjoy a perfect Italian day on the sea.

We were booked for a boat tour with Captain Mike and unfortunately Mike had to have surgery and thus our tour was cancelled. These things cannot be helped and we totally understand the situation. Captain Mike went to a huge amount of trouble to refund our deposit. (It was troublesome due to the length of time since our original payment & also the bank system in Australia is different to Europe ). We really appreciated the effort he went to (even though the poor man had just been through surgery) to refund our deposit!! Highly recommend booking this tour as it would’ve been absolutely fabulous!!! Thanks Captain Mike for your professionalism, persistence and also keeping us updated with what was happening!!! What an experience! The day starts off with Captain Mike's gracious welcome onboard the Calmacuor. He is capable and informed, providing his guests the utmost professionalism. The coast in and around Lavagna has lots to offer. Gorgeous waters. Snorkelling. Classic Italian scenery. Even dolphins if you are lucky. The menu and food are all prepared by Mike himself and are just delicous. We highly recommend this tour. The value for money cannot be beat. We will be back ! Thank you for the memories

My partner pre-booked this sailing trip before we arrived as a romantic day out for us both. Mike was very informative before the trip and met us at the train station. It was a short walk to the harbour he introduced us to the boat and gave a safety briefing. The weather wasn’t great so we were sceptical, however we are so glad we went as it was just such a fantastic day. Mikes knowledge of the area and sailing capabilities made the trip perfect. We visited the famous Portofino. Had an absolutely gorgeous lunch with fruits that I’ve never tasted such succulent juices from before, and amazing focaccia bread. My partner took a dip in the ocean which was a tad cold due to the weather. We were dosed up with some Prosecco and beer which is always a pro. The views were amazing even with some stormy black cloud above, and fortunately we got some sailing in on the way back with some nice wind which just made it even better. Mike is such a lovely genuine person we are lucky to have met him.

Strongly recommend using Mike for sailing around the Coast. We had an excellent half-day, Mike was a great (and very safe) skipper, and the food and drink were first class. A don’t-miss opportunity.

My family and I had scheduled a day sailing with Mike. He was quick to respond and confirm our sail date. As the day approached the weather changed. He kept me abreast of the current situation as he continued to follow numerous weather reports. I was made to feel safety was a priority. We appreciated his honesty and concern. We will definitely rebook the next time we are in the Portofino area.

Sailing with Mike is an absolute must-do in Liguria! My husband and I had been on the go touring the area and needed a relaxing day; and Set Sail Tours was perfect for us. It was definitely one of the most relaxing days we have ever spent at sea. Mike served a beautiful spread of food (the onion focaccia is unbelievable), and drinks flowed all day. We enjoyed it so much that we booked another day. Thank you Mike for a fabulous day on the Mediterranean!

We had a great day on the boat with Mike. We started the journey with fresh croissant with hidden strawberries. We saw all the villages from Lavagna to Portofino. We jump into the cool Mediterranean see and get cool. All the meals, and fresh fruits were also great. Special thanks to our host, Mike for his hospitality and his nice chat. My friend and I had a wonderful time sailing with Mike! He really thinks about every detail and takes care of his hosts. It was an amazing experience and we even got to see dolphins! I would definitely go sail with him again!

Absolutely recommend it! My girlfriend, her parents and I went on the sunset cruise. Great tour and we enjoyed Michael’s company. We were lucky enough to spot a big group of dolphins and before we knew it they were all around the boat. Beautiful view of Portofino from the sea.

We were two couples who wanted to see the Ligurian coast from the sea and decided to book captain Mike and his beautiful sailing ship for a day on the sea. Some of us had never been sailing before, and we were all looking for a unique, once in a lifetime experince. The ship sailed smoothly, and we loved to watch the beauty of the sails surrounded by the Mediterranean sea and the pictoresque Italian villages. Mike taught us about sailing, and we were served a tasty Italian lunch and cold beverages. After a while, we stopped for swimming on a bay with authentic Italian athmosphere and peaceful and beautiful scenery. We felt safe onboard with him as a captain. At the same time we felt relaxed as his guests and talking to him was both interesting and rewarding. After spending a day with him, we would love to sail with him again.

What a perfect way to view the beautiful coast from Lavanga to San Fruttuoso Monastery. Mike had the galley producing croissants and fruit platters as we set course diverting to see a dolphin pod which played with our bow wave. We took turns sailing this beautifully kept yacht and stopped for a magnificent lunch on board and a swim. A must for a group for that memorable day. Thanks from Mel and Russ NZ

We had an amazing GIRLCATION on the Mediterranean coast!! Captain Mike was phenomenal and he showed us around Portofino and Santa Margherita! We saw dolphins and spent our day in the beautiful, crystal clear waters! A tour that you can’t miss!!! Thanks Mike!

I came for a day trip while in holiday with my family in Santa Margherita. Lavagna is an easy train ride from there. Mike was a wonderful host. We the best day out on his boat. Lunch and drink were fantastic. He has great knowledge of the area as we sailed up the coast. Swimming off the back of the boat was a highlight. Thanks again Mike!

We had a great day out with set sail tours. Mike the captain was lovely. Great food served throughout the day (crossaints, fruit platter, cold cuts and delicious focaccia.) had a couple of beers/ spritzes whilst sailing on the beautiful Ligurian sea. Enjoyed a dip in the sea and a snorkel near portofino. Very relaxing. Thoroughly recommend.
