Despite some way-finding challenges, we had a wonderful three day self guided trek with Toto and Luna. Very good, kind donkeys who would cope with everything we asked of them. Super Agriturismos along the way for the overnight stays and amazing paddocks full of orchids. We have never seen anything like this before. The walk itself had some steep stony climbs, so not for the unfit (and young children might have found the route tough too) but worth the effort for the rewards at the top and the companionship of these lovely donkeys.

I think this was my best holiday ever. The hotels organised bij Lorija were all different and had their own character, but were all very interesting. The first day Roberto walked with us, for us to get familiair with the donkey's. The four days we spent walking from hotel to agriculturismo turistico were are wonderful. The views, the food, but most of all our little group: two donkey's, two best friends. No time for anything else. After walking (we did 15-18 km; believe me; that is more then enough. Take shorter distances when you are with little children.) We were here in late september, and that was great!!! Great weather, enough time in the hostels to cook the best for us. Every hostel had very different ways of cooking; from the cucina povera to Adolpho in Pupagi that made us the best tagliatelle a tartuffo EVER!!! Life couldn't get any better. Take good shoes; and a pair of reserves to change. For the rest the donkeys will put you in your right place! Enjoy!

we (family with three kids: 6, 8 and 11) booked the six day trekking in the monti sibillini, and the experience was fantastic. Roberto and Lorji are extremely nice, patient and considerate: they designed wonderful journeys through the most panoramic and beautiful areas, and the sleeping and dinner places were just perfect. Donkeys are everything you think they are: strong, loyal, fun, stubborn, unpredictable, enigmatic- a constant source of joy, wonder, amazement and annoyance alike. As city folk, native from some of the flattest places in the world (BE-NL), we did have some moments of doubt and pain (looking puzzled and peevishly at a map, surrounded by mountains, under a scorching sun or in a dense fog, to find our way, is quite outside our comfort zone), but the experience was wonderful, the scenery awesome and the organisation and support by Roberto and his team just perfect.

Ultimate family teambuilding with kids from 6-66 yrs (ours are 6 and 8). Superfriendly and complete introduction from owner Roberto. Dreamlandscapes, excellent walks, nice accomodation and great food. Can't wait to come back next year!

The ride here is tough to find but they are very patient in getting you there. The one issue we had was the lack of information...we showed up thinking we would get 4 mules and guides to walk with us. We ended up getting two mules for the four of us and a map for 100 euro. The walk is 2 1/2 hours to the end and 2 hours back. It is not easy when you have to drag a mule without guides. This was an issue of communication on both parties and not all on them. The mules were good and the trails well marked. We would only do again if we did on foot on our own or with a mule and guide for all.

Fantastic views, stunning scenery, and friendly people along the way. Close to Norcia and easy to just go for a drive in the area.

We (family with 11 and 13 yrs old girls) did an organised 6 day trek through the Sibilini Mountains with 2 donkeys of the Mulsttiera. Thanks to the fantastic scenery, the great places to stay and our trusted Nerina and Novoletta we had a fantastic experience. Definitely worth a try for either a day trip or a multi day trip!

We booked the family donkey weekend including camping near the refugio Colle Le Cese. Our children are 8 and 7 years old and they were very excited about the trip: a great experience sitting at the back of a donkey, nice environment with beautiful panoramic views, excellent lunch under a big tree, a professional mountain guide (Sergio) who could tell us nice background stories (in perfect english), a great dinner at the refugio. We took a 4 day (three night) donkey trip with 8 donkeys, 4 families with 9 kids in total (6-11 years old). Our guide, Francesco, was wonderful. He was very relaxed with the donkeys, an expert guide, good humour, very nice with kids, knowledgeable. We spent 3 nights in the fields (but close enough to refreshments and shower/toilet facilities). The ultimate trekking was through the Piano Grandi near Castelluccio. The flowers among the lentil beds were extremely beautiful, much more impressive than the Keukenhof in the Netherlands. The trip was not light, but with the very nice donkeys our kids managed to succeed as well, as new friends and as happy campers. Thank you, Roberto and Francesco!

MY wife and I travelled to Italy with our 2 daughters, 6 & 9, and stayed near Spoleto, Umbria. A donkey ride sounded good for the kids. I E-mailed La Mulattiera before we left and received info from Roberto and Lorya. Lorya convinced me to do the 10-4 trek up mountain trail to monestary with food provided, 2 donkeys for our family. 6 hours seemed long for 2 kids, I told her. "They can ride the donkeys, no problem." It took an hour by car from Spoleto in beautiful mountainous countryside. We arrived at a small village; wife took a bathroom break at local bar. We were given simple donkey instructions and off we went. Our donkeys were very kid friendly and amiable. Everyone in our group were Italians, and there were no children. Uh-oh, I thought. Lorya reassured me. Pretty flat for the first 1-2 hours with stop at a church for snack of cheese, meat and wine. Then climbed up mountain trail, narrow and steep in places. Gorgeous views with a good leg workout. Everyone dismounted on the steep descent for a short period and passed through another small village to the monestary where they provided lunch, rest and real bathrooms. Here, there was a playground and the old chuch to visit. The kids had a great time and at lunch were proud to walk their donkeys around on their own. We returned another route along the road through the villages and no further climbing. Great fun for all, and Lorya was right. Go to their website and e-mail with questions. They offer lots of different outings, and you don't have to work your tail off if you don't want to. Take a 2 hour ride and just enjoy the surroundings; finish the day off at the cute "bar" for food. Everyone friendly, Roberto and Lorya speak Engish. On the road back to Spoleto, stop in Norcia, only a few miles away, or one of the cute gift shops. Weather was sunny and warm for mid April, but is usually cooler in the higher elevation. Bring raingear just in case.
