- K4780FRcharlesb0 contributionsEasy Going Family FunLil' Hughy gave us some guidelines with how to throw axes (over and under arm) and technique to shoot the bow, and we had some good competitions with some fun games too. I particularly enjoyed 'Baking A Cake' with the arrows as me and my partner managed it in just 4 arrows! A great, easy to enjoy activity - though I'd recommend bringing wipes in case the cows have been in the area again!Written 29 November 2024

- 8427A0 contributionsWhitewater rafting adrenaline pumpingBooked whitewater rafting as a group of 2. The website was easy to navigate and book a slot. There is a sign along the main road which directs you to the carpark. Here, you need to pay £4 (cash or card) for all-day parking. Upon arrival, we met Jess and Harry and felt welcomed straight away. They were both friendly and chatty. There is an undercover seating area, an outside seating area, changing rooms and toilets. There is also a milk hut just down the path that sells hot drinks and milkshakes. The hot chocolate from there was delicious! Nice and warming after a chilly October morning. To start, we were given a safety briefing from an instructor. They provide you with a wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid. The changing rooms are split in male and female. There are plenty of cubicles to use and there is also storage space for your bags. (I've got to say they have made great use of a container to form changing rooms). In total, 14 people took part in whitewater rafting and we were in three rafts. We travelled to our starting destination in a minibus, which was only a short drive away. Before we got on the water, we had another briefing from the instructor you are with. They really do care about safety. At no point did I feel unsafe. Harry made us feel safe and prepared for the waters. He was a great instructor! Harry was fun, talkative and I could see he had a real love for the water. He got us all hyped up and excited for our adventure on the raft. He made the whole experience so much fun. We got to jump into the water, surf waves and bounce off rocks. Harry even gave us some information about the local area while we were on the calmer bits of the water. I couldn't have asked for a better instructor! Zak and Jess were in the other boats. They were also great instructors. You could tell they enjoy their job and working together. After the adventure is over, you return back to base in the minibus. You can purchase photos from the photographer who takes photos at two points in the route. These cost £15 for all photos. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can't wait to return when we are back in Wales. White water rafting with Bearded Men Adventures was the best!! Thank you for a great time!Written 3 November 2024

Thanks to Pete! 🫶 had a fun canoe session over the ‘tallest aqueduct in the world’! … (that’s a fact courtesy of info Pete) with my Grandchildren to celebrate a 12th birthday.
He gave us the safety run down, taught us some technical stuff, he was wonderfully embracing, friendly and informative, before long we were canoeing in the skies of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
As we travelled the canal he shared the history of the aqueduct along with fun facts for the kids and we hunted the canal ‘plug! he showed them where wild garlic was growing and shared other wild herbs, their names and possible uses.
He made the whole trip personable, fun, educational and enjoyable, a great trip leader, thank you for a fun trip, highly recommend Bearded Men Adventures 🙌

Well from parking the car the guys at Bearded Men adventures had us laughing.
Our instructor was JOE
me and my friend travelled 1h40min to do this activity and there was 3 couples in our group.
Joe was clear and humorous with his talk and demo by the canal.
Off we pop into the boats, more advice & tips in manouvering ourselves and we were off.
Joe picked me some blackberries and we all made it to the aquaduct to be absolutely blown away by the spectacular views, knowledge Joe gave us and of how amazing to get to do this and laugh and feel proud.
Joe is ace, we were ace and I cannot recommend it enough.
I'm nearly 49 so age is no barrier get yourselves booked on, live life and if you get Joe (according to my mate he's the male version of me) your in for a fantastic few hours x

A brilliant experience from start to finish on 1 October 2024. Joe was there right from our starting point to let us know we were in the right place as the signposting is not too clear for those from outside the area. We arrived early for our slot so he gave directions for a short walk to fill the time. On arriving back, his banter kept us all laughing whilst he explained what we would be doing. The training session for those who haven't canoed before (like myself and my partner) was great and we had respect for his enormous patience and sense of humour in dealing with complete novices. ! The trip along the canal and the aqueduct was amazing with fantastic views, which we enjoyed whilst trying not to bump into the constant flow of canal boats and other canoes.....no mean feat!! Canoeing is quite strenuous but great fun and, of course, lifejackets are provided for security. Joe did a great job of keeping track of us all and assisting where necessary, whilst giving loads of interesting information about the history of the canal, aqueduct and local area. The tour lasted quite a long time, therefore I would recommend that anyone doing it pops into the nearby pub to use the toilets beforehand as there is no facility at the starting point (a portaloo would be handy!). I definitely recommend this company and would love to do this again sometime if I go back to this area. As a last note ...if Joe gets to see this review... "it's a paddle"!

It’s wonderful that his banter and patience made the training session fun for you and your partner, especially as novices!
The trip along the canal and aqueduct sounds amazing, and we love that you managed to navigate the busy waterways while soaking in the fantastic views! Thank you for the helpful tips regarding the pub and facilities; we’ll definitely take that into consideration.
We appreciate your strong recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! And yes, Joe will definitely appreciate your note—“it’s a paddle!” 😄

The canal and aqueduct experience is a really enjoyable and beautiful way to cross the bridge… and a lot less scary than walking it!
We had a fabulous time with our 2 kids, 12 & 8, plus a friend with two kids, 10 and 8.
Joe, our instructor, was funny and relaxed, professional and very safety conscious, especially in the vicinity of narrow boats. He had a good word for everyone, plenty of banter as well as history and information about the area.
Our 12 year old was keen to be the steer and key paddler in his canoe and it was great how Joe, without hesitation, made sure he was competent and encouraged him to do it.
Sarah made it easy to book then rearrange to enable friends to come with us.
The older kids and dads also experienced the white water rafting on their recommendation and they did, as promised, love that too! Again great instructors and encouragement.
We’d wholeheartedly recommend Bearded Men.
Thanks for a great time x

Just Amazing !
All i can say about this experience is WOW !
Never canoed in our lives before this and boy was it sooooo much fun , and exciting and pleasurable .
If your a complete novice, as we both are, don't be put off , you are coached with a 1/2 hour induction and training (and nurtured all the way along the trip if you are maybe having a few issues like we did :-) ) .
Our experience of this adventure :
Let me start by saying that my wife has a phobia about heights , a really big issue for her and this really was a " face your fear " moment if ever there was one , the canoeing adventure is around 3 hours in duration and its with a group of about 5 other canoes , no one in our group can attain to winning any gold medals at the Olympics for canoeing so we all were on a par with our level of experience .
It all starts with a lazy hour canoeing down tree lined peaceful calm canal waters and then onto the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct itself ... its just stunning on a day with 100 % blue sky's and beautiful Autumn sunshine , the views are staggering ..
This would never have happened if it wasn't for our tour guide Joe , he was the instructor , comedian and therapist , He alone ( he will disagree ) was the reason why my wife was able to conquer her fear of heights that day , he brought out all her inner strengths and she smashed it big time !
Personally I cannot say how proud i am and again a massive shout out to Joe , not just for us , he was professional , informative and made us feel so safe this summarised all that you would expect for a 5 star performance to all the group ( hope you recognised your description Joe :-)
Would recommend 100 % for all level

Superb adventure! Pete our guide was friendly and funny! Loads of fun facts too along the way such as when we rowed over the aqueduct we were 36.5 cows high or 126ft. Pete was also very patient towards a group of people with us who were disruptive and ignorant at times! Excellently handled and meant that our experience wasn't ruined!
The activity itself was a lot of fun! So many laughs and a couple of hairy drifted into the bushes moments. Plenty of time and space to learn to get the hang of it before setting off properly. The views were stunning and we felt confident when navigating around the canal boats. Going over the aqueduct was insane and again the views were incredible - absolutely brilliant!
Beaded Man Adventures were superb. Excellent communication from the moment of booking. Clear expectations of what would happen and even pin pointed locastions sent to us on a map. Pete was superb but so were all of the crew.
Overall the activity although adventurous and fun was also peaceful at times. Especially when you took a break and drifted through the trees. I would highly recommend this activity for any ages and Bearded Man Adventures as a company to go with!

We had the best time today! I booked this as a present for my husband’s 40th, we’ve been attempting to do 40 new things over the course of this year and this has to be one of our favourites. Highly recommend, it was totally worth the 2 and half hour drive.
Joe our instructor was brilliant he made the experience for us. He was fun, laid back and full of banter but he was also very knowledgeable and we felt really safe with him, he instantly made me feel at ease as I was nervous.
I needn’t have been worried the whole activity was brilliant from start to finish. By the time we got in the water I felt much more confident about what I needed to do and ready to attempt it, even standing up in the canoe (which I never thought I would do).
The scenery is something else, it has to be one of the most beautiful canals I’ve ever seen and we were really interested by the facts Joe was telling us about the area.
The aqueduct itself is pretty special, I was very excited to be able to cross it in a canoe and the pictures of the aqueduct from afar make it look so daunting but it doesn’t feel that high or scary when you are on it.
So happy we got to experience something so special together and would highly recommend bearded men adventures as they made it such fun.

Shout out to Joleon who was our guide for the afternoon on the aqueduct . Luckily, we went when it was not too busy on a Friday with only four canoes in total on our tour, it was a very calm and tranquil trip with incredible views which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We decided to revisit on foot the following Saturday and saw jo in charge of what seemed to be about 300 canoes attempting to cross the aqueduct. Unfortunately for them there were numerous insanely large narrow boats powered almost entirely by Wrexham lager and a titanic sense of false confidence that seemed intent on playing chicken with them at every attempt. Jo handled it very calmly and even took the time to have a chat with our kids, who were pestering him as he bravely marshalled his group away from these 65 foot battering rams captained by drunken holidaymakers
