      A Wilderness Education
Sharon was the perfect guide. She shared her expertise in botany, ecology and history, helping us learn about the magic of sphagnum moss and other plants that we saw on the way. It was her deep personal connection to the bogland and her anecdotes about her own family that made the hike so special. We were very fortunate to have spectacular weather during the hike, and she gave us ample time to take our holiday snaps. The route is a pleasant mountain walk through miles of bog wilderness, which you often have entirely to yourselves. Thank you for an unforgettable afternoon, Sharon. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys hill walking.

      Walking with Sharon in Dunree
I did a walk with Sharon as part of the Inishowen walking festival. My first impression of Sharon was that she is very friendly and informative. The walk was suitable for the age group out that day. Although the weather was typically Irish Sharon made it very interesting. She spoke of the folklore from there and growing up in the local area. She also gave a great wee chat on the bog and the benefits of it for the environment. I’d definitely consider doing her bog safari someday. Definitely will be keeping an eye out for more events with Sharon.

      Donegal Bog Safari Hike
My husband and I recently did the Bog Safari hike with Sharon. It was a great mix of walking (in a part of Donegal we didn't know, so that was a novelty) and conversation. Sharon is really knowledgeable about the bog, giving us information about the landscape, turf, plants growing up in the area and still living nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed the hike; aided by a warm May afternoon, it was a lovely experience.

      Extraordinary Hike
Sharon was a fantastic guide making this an extraordinary hike . I learned so much. The landscape is beautiful wild and empty, a stunning remoteness in every direction. Learning about the different mosses , sponges and lichen of the bog was amazing. In the strangest way looking and learning about the Micro -topography reminded me of diving the Great Barrier Reef ! To learn of the bogs role in sustainability and carbon sequestering was truly fascinating. We studied ancient pieces of bog oak up to 8000 years old. I can highly recommend the Bog Safari, for adults & children alike. So informative and extremely interesting. A must do on any trip to Inishowen. Thank you Sharon for a truly rewarding adventure.

      Brilliant
The bog safari was the perfect blend of walk and talk. Sharon Porter has a deep knowledge and deep passion for this landscape. Her desire to care for and respect Ireland's bogs is inspiring. She is such a delight to be around and she cares about teaching others how precious this landscape is. I would highly recommend Sharon and her bog safari!

Memorable hikes spectacular scenery fascinating history and interesting information about the area
I spent 2 wonderful days exploring the stunning landscape of two areas in the hills of Donegal. Sharon provided an incredible personal service with well planned routes and her extensive knowledge of the terrain landscape and history of the areas. The Living Landscape hike was challenging at the start but lead to stunning scenery and wonderful displays of purple heather. The holy well of St. Eigne and the Grotto are not to be missed as also the "magic road" The Wild Atlantic Way Mountain Lake hike started at the beautiful Lenan strand and we walked a mix of mainly heather covered tracks to discover the amazing hidden lakes. The stunning Atlantic ocean views along the way were absolutely incredible A truly memorable couple of days with Sharon to whom I express my admiration and gratitude

      Hiking locally with family :)
An 8km bespoke tour with Sharon of Meenavogey between Buncrana and Carndonagh. We learned about the flora and issues the bog has due to human activities. The views were amazing. Thanks, Sharon.

Great way to spend a day in the beautiful Irish countryside
We had so much fun on this hike. Sharon, our guide, was very knowledgable and took pleasure in telling us about the history and ecology of the region. She was easy to communicate with and scheduled a custom trip that fit our schedule perfectly.

Hiking with Sharon - Malin Head
My wife and I spend an amazing day with Sharon, Solas Ireland Walks and Hikes, exploring the northern most point of Ireland, Malin Head. Sharon has a deep knowledge of this area and its history. We had lovely weather (not always the case) and the views of the sky, the sea, and the landscape were breathtaking. I would highly recommend spending time with Sharon walking through the Irish landscape - bogs, coast, mountains - can't think of a better way to spend the day! It was brilliant!

      Donegal at its best!
Thoroughly enjoyed this hike, guided by Sharon who knows the area and its history like the back if her hand. It was amazing walking right through the wild, vast Donegal landscape you usually only experience from a car window. The bog with its scattered remains of ancient oak trees and the breathtaking views once we got higher up is something I highly recommend. A+!

Amazing walk through an active peat bog
Had an amazing 3.5 hour walk through an active peat bog with Sharon on 9/24. A native to the area (we walked through her family’s land), she is a wealth of knowledge about the history, ecology and geology of the bog, and of peoples effect on it, both from human and machine harvesting of the peat. She showed me firsthand the effects of machine harvesting on the fragile land, and was a vocal advocate for how important it is to reclaim and preserve these bog areas from a climate change perspective. Along with the Amazon rainforest, these bogs truly are “the lungs” of the world. We saw healthy and unhealthy peat, gorgeous silken mosses, and all manner of flowers and grasses native to the area… not to mention sheep!! It was a fascinating and beautiful walk. Can’t recommend highly enough. I hope to be back for other walks in the future!
