A most thrilling, exciting and memorable experience to soar in a Serengeti Balloon Safari. You must try it!
We took a SBS balloon flight on February 22, 2024. Our pilot was Mohamed and the experience was exhilarating! A fantastic opportunity to see the vastness of the beautiful Serengeti. The SBS Staff was wonderful, efficient and very professional. Our driver, Adam was outstanding and despite the early pick-up and drive to our sunrise flight, we were always in safe and competent hands. Mohamed is a fantastic pilot and SBS representative. He guided us during the flight, spotted animals and I felt very safe. The catered breakfast afterwards was a delight! Such charming details to make this experience a true memory. I only wish I had brought more cash for tips.

Wonderful sky view with Capitan Nathan
Beautiful experience! Overseeing the Serengeti Savannah and looking for it's habitants! We were lucky enough to see a group of giraffes, antilopes, buffalos and other animals! Wonderful crew and pilot (Capitan Nathan)! Thank you!

Hot air ballon over the Serengetti, do it!
The views were amazing, and we took so many photos. Not as many animal sightings as I had hoped, but still worth it.

          Great balloon experience in Tanzania
Our group of 46 travelers from Fun Happenings Travel and Adventure traveled to Tanzania from the USA. A large number of the group took the balloon excursion over the Serengeti with this awesome professional company. It was my first experience in a hot air balloon and the quickly made me feel relaxed and safe in their professional care. They explained everything we would experience from how we would load, lift off, travel, steer, the landing etc. The ride was smooth and beautiful. Upon landing they greeted us with a champagne toast, welcome, smiles, bathrooms, clean water to wash our hands, certificates to document the experience and a complete homemade breakfast elegantly set on the Serengeti. I would highly recommend this experience and our pilot for this once in a lifetime experience. Robin C - Bowling Green, Ky

          Simply Majestic
What a majestic adventure!!! to peacefully soar above such spectacular scenery of wildlife and landscapes, it was a breathtaking experience. As a first timer at this, I felt so safe, amazed and thrilled. Captain Frank did a superb job in guiding, flying and a perfect landing. After a little bubbly, we sat down to the most wonderful breakfast and conversation. Oh, and thanks for "the loo with a view." A perfect beginning with a perfect ending and pure joy in-between..

          Once in a lifetime....
My family of 5 just completed a safari which included your balloon excursion. Let me just say it was INCREDIBLE! Prior to leaving the states I had “convinced” 2 of my boys to take this adventure with me (being my 50th birthday bucket list)....when we arrived at the hotel my husband and other son had come around and wanted to experience this with us. Luckily there was one spot and one last minute cancellation! From start to finish the SBS did a top notch job. Short wait for take off...Captain Frank was great....the peaceful cruise through the Serengeti with many animal sightings....exciting drag landing (on purpose of course) had us all laughing....champagne toast and stories... and of course the delicious and extravagant breakfast with amazing views. I am so happy I was able to experience this with my whole family. I highly recommend SBS for their professionalism and of course for the entire experience I truly will never forget. It was a top highlight of our trip! (Also, worth every penny!). Thank you SBS!

          Don’t miss this great experience
Is a 4:00am wake up call worth it? Yes it is! We are a family of three with our 13yr old daughter and we really enjoyed the experience and professionalism of the company. The pilot was British and explained all the safety features, how to handle ourselves during the flight etc. Not once did we felt unsafe or scared. This is so peaceful and quiet. The amazing English breakfast with champagne after the flight with a history lesson is very nice. Thanks again to everyone for this special experience!

          Wonderful
We had a wonderful ride with Franck, our pilot. The ride, and landing, were super smooth and it was an incredible way to appreciate the Serengeti, which you only get to see from the back of a jeep. The unending horizon and sunrise colors of the savanna are enchanting. We didn’t see as many animals as I had hoped, they are quite elusive, but our pilot pointed out what was there and provided for a very entertaining and educational experience. The champagne and breakfast were a great way to cap off this ballon ride. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!

          A Truly Magical Experience
Just before leaving for Tanzania my wife and I decided to book a balloon flight over the Serengeti. We had wanted to take a small plane flight over the national Park, but this was not possible. It was a very good decision to go with the balloon flight. Serengeti Balloon Safaris was an excellent choice. Our pilot "Johnny" was an extremely competent guide and flyer. I felt immediately confident in his abilities the moment that he began to explain the safety procedures and the flight plan. We had to lie on our backs as the gigantic balloon rose and we automatically became upright. The view from the air of the savanna was very, very memorable. We saw hippos, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, all from the air. The sun rise was spectacular. The landing was a little bumpy but quite an experience. The final glory was the service of a first class breakfast under the trees in a remote location. China, glass, etc. And very good company from fellow passengers. Just great!

Waking up at 4am is never easy but boy was it worth it!!! This was a once in a lifetime experience and highly recommend it to anyone doing Safari trips.

You get to see the endless plains of the Serengeti from a totally different perspective and only then could you understand the term “endless”.

Seeing the crew inflate the balloon is an experience in itself. Our pilot was very interactive and gave us low flying encounters with many animals.

I’m not a fan of heights, but this was a very stable flight and any fear I had quickly vanished.

After an hour or so of flying, we were treated with champagne as per tradition and later an amazing breakfast under the shade of a typical Acacia Tree surrounded by wildlife and nothing but peace.

What else could you ask for??

Like so many activities, your guide (or in this case, pilot) has a huge impact on the experience.

We went on Feb 8. It was a mostly overcast, cloudy day, but we had an absolutely gorgeous sunrise as the horizon was actually clear. Unfortunately, while the other balloons were up in the air for sunrise, we watched it through the cracks of our basket while still grounded, because the pilot had misjudged the wind. These things happen, and while disappointing, it could happen to anyone.

Unfortunately, the pilot decided the best course of action was to berate and belittle the staff until they were able to fix his mistake. Our safari guide (who doesn’t even work for Serengeti Balloon Safaris) was even helping out, and also getting yelled at. When we finally got off the ground, the next hour was pretty cool. Based on reviews, we thought we’d be closer to the ground for longer, but the 2 minutes we were close enough to see animals were really amazing.

The champagne breakfast upon landing was delicious, and the staff did a great job keeping up with the balloon to be able to pick us up right on time.

Overall, it was a neat experience that I’m happy we did. I would likely not spend the money to do it again, but if I did, I would certainly request a different pilot - preferably one that treated his staff (and volunteering outsiders) with more respect.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make a detailed review, I always appreciate hearing feedback as we take it as an opportunity to continually improve what we do. I am so sorry that you didn't make the sunrise and that you felt that the pilot had been rude to the staff on te morning of 8th February. I have reviewed the morning with Capt Joao and with our Chief pilot to fully understand what happened. On this morning, the wind switched 90 degrees during Joao's inflation (this is unusual). It meant that he couldn't safely continue the launch sequence without re-orienting the basket to the new wind direction. During this procedure he was brisk with the staff and he had to shout over the noise of the fans as he was still hoping to make it in time for the sunrise. During the launch, pilots may have to shout to make themselves heard and to ensure co-ordination between pilot and crew at this critical time. We have known Capt Joao for many years and know that he has a particularly good and respectful relationship with the ground crew and the rest of the staff. I have verified that he did have a friendly debrief after the flight with a few of the newer members of his ground crew to ensure that they had understood the situation and to right some of the miscommunication that occurred that morning. We have also reached out to your safari guide to ensure that he does not feel badly treated during this launch. I'm also sorry that the morning didn't produce as much low flying as you were hoping for, we do usually spend most of the flight quite low (without frightening the wildlife) but sometimes the conditions of the day may prevent us from doing so. I apologise that this tricky launch and the way that it was handled made you feel that it was not as good as it should have been but am delighted that you enjoyed the rest of the morning with us and found our bush breakfast to be delicious.

We had the unique experience of going on a hot air balloon excursion while recently visiting the Serengeti on safari. You get up early in the morning, before sunrise, and get a ride from someone from the Serengeti Balloon Safari. Steven, our driver, was just the start of a great adventure as our drive included spotting animals and information about the region. We arrived to watch the balloons being filled and got great instructions on safety procedures, etc. Our pilot, Jonathan, was competent, friendly, and informative as we glided above the Serengeti... watching the sunrise and looking at the view from the perspective of the birds. We saw the wildebeest and zebras gathering before their river crossing and numerous other animals. The balloons are raised and lowered to give you both an up close look at the landscape and animals and a higher up view to give you some perspective of the topography. Try and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

We did the Balloon Safari last Sunday and the ride was simply magnificent. Watching the sunrise with its rays creating magical colours in the water of the Mara River was an awesome experience. The pleasant chirping of birds in the Serengeti sky made the ride even more tranquil.

We sailed over tree-tops and saw many animals from the balloon. The highlight was flying over the Mara River which houses many crocodiles and hippos. Due to the sound of the balloon many hippos ran away from the path of the balloon giving us a spectacle to watch (normally hippos are lazy and barely move). We also saw many swimming crocodiles.

Our Captain, Abeid Soka steered the balloon so well that we never wanted the ride to end. Abeid is a Tanzanian who qualified to steer hot air balloons in California, USA.

The English breakfast after the ride under an Acacia tree was a perfect way to end the morning experience. The Serengeti Balloon Safaris team was professional, friendly and helpful.

I do recommend this ride to one and all. Children under 7 Years are not allowed on this ride.

We had a nice flight and the majority of staff friendly and great. Unfortunately the weather was rainy which made visibility a bit poor when we flew. The balloon ride itself was lovely but we didn’t see any animals except a couple Hilo’s and 2 ostriches, as we were ahead the Great Migration. Had we done the trip during the migration, I’m certain I would rate it 5 stars, however, for the $600ISD per person we spent, it just wasn’t worth it. The experience was further diminished by our Portuguese pilot spending the entire flight hitting on a 20 something local girl and neglecting the other 15 passengers in the basket. All in all not worth the money unless it’s migration time.

Thank you for making the effort to share your review F1612SHMS and I am so sorry to hear that the weather made visibility a bit poor during your flight. Though I'm delighted to hear that the flight was lovely, I am sorry that you didn't see enough game. I am really sorry too, to hear that our pilot didn't give you enough attention, this is really disappointing and not the behaviour that I would expect from a Serengeti Balloon Safaris pilot. We have reiterated to all pilots that they must treat all guests equally and do everything that they can to ensure that our guests have a safe and wonderful time. Regards, John

What an incredible, unforgettable experience! Serengeti Balloon Safari is such a professional company and the memories of our extraordinary balloon flight will stay with us forever. The ginger tea and biscuits upon our arrival were delicious, especially so whilst watching the majesty of the sunrise and the surrounding beauty of the Serengeti . The welcome from all the staff was warm and genuine. Taking off and landing were both wonderful and we felt 100% safe throughout our flight. Our pilot was warm, friendly and knowledgeable; excellent at highlighting all the sights beneath us during our flight. The luxurious and beautifully prepared breakfast, served under the acacia tree, along with the delicious champagne and coffee was simply the icing on the cake. My family and I will never forget this balloon flight as long as we live. If there is any way you can add this to your itinerary whilst in the Serengeti, then just do it and make sure you book your flight through Serengeti Balloon Safari!

We were hoping to do a Serengeti hot air balloon experience as part of our Tanzania honeymoon and were gifted the experience for our wedding. What an amazing gift it was! We decided to do the Northern Serengeti experience as this is the migration season so we knew we’d for sure see some animals. As first timers, we were a little nervous but we soon learned there was no reason to be nervous, as the entire crew from beginning to end was so incredibly professional.

We were picked up in the dark and early morning from our lodge with several other passengers to be taken to the balloon. Along the way, our driver and guide in the car would look for animals in the night, and we spotted several wildebeests and a linx! He also was very nice and funny, making the hour long drive in the early hours fun and very bearable. Upon arrival we got to watch the balloons get set up, were given delicious and unique coffee and cookies, and met our wonderful pilot Kevin. Kevin was very warm, funny and professional, making sure that we all understood exactly what safety measures to take and what we would be doing (and why), while also cracking jokes and making our safety briefing fun. He did a wonderful job with the full balloon flight, and was super knowledgeable about the various birds and animals we were seeing!

After our flight we took some professional photos with a photographer that were promptly emailed to us (and look great!) and did a champagne toast with all the passengers and crew where they acknowledged our honeymoon as well as anniversaries and birthdays which was very special. We then got to have a fantastic breakfast in the bush and meet the other passengers from so many different countries - a truly amazing experience.

Can’t recommend this experience enough. If you come to Tanzania, be sure to do a hot air balloon flight with Serengeti Balloon Safaris!

I am so glad I booked this – it was an unforgettable experience to float over the Serengeti at sunrise and view the landscape and wildlife from above. From above you can hear the animals, smell the wild, and feel the excitement of the life below over a vast area. You cannot get all that at ground level. Yes, the flight cost is a bit pricey but it was worth it for the memorable experience and lifetime memories of seeing elephants, lions, giraffes, hippo’s, wildebeest, zebra, and hyena from another perspective. Our pilot Frank Bellantoni was both entertaining and provided us very informative commentary which deepened our knowledge and understanding of the Serengeti ecosystem.

A smooth landing was celebrated with Champagne upon arrival at the landing site after which we were transported a short distance to continue our Serengeti Balloon experience with a sumptuous breakfast that was served at well laid tables under an acacia tree, by costumed staff. Sharing the excitement of the balloon flight with new friends was a lovely way to end that special experience.

Serengeti Balloon Safari is a very well planned, managed, and professionally presented venture where attention to detail is clearly evident. Go and do it! You will not regret it – if you do not do it you will always be left wondering … what did I miss out on?

I'll be honest - doing this was never on my bucket list to do and it was only because a friend I was travelling with was doing it that I tagged along. It ended up being the absolute highlight of our trip. The birds eye view you get over the Serengeti is so different to what you see from the car on the road and its truly awe inspiring to see it all from above. The early start means you get to watch the sun rise over the serengeti from the balloon which is just majestic.
Our pilot Mohamed also doubled up as a great animal spotter, and had us in stiches laughing the whole time.

There are a couple of other balloon companies to choose from but these guys are definitely the most experienced and professional.
