- dannjay0 contributionsLegendary surf coach and top blokeDeano is an absolute legend. Hes a local to Bondi and is such a great teacher. My son (9) had private lessons with Deano for 3 days and had an absolute ball! Deano explained the surf conditions and what to look out for, provided a wet-suit and a board. I could t rate Deano highly enough, he’s the go to bloke for learning to surf. Thanks Deano we won’t forget you, and I’m sure Jack has made a friend for life.Written 19 September 2024
- E9404LUjanew0 contributionsSo much fun! Well worth itWe had a great time even though it was raining at the beginning the beach was cool and Deano was an awesome teacher. Definitely would recommend, it’s really worth itWritten 6 March 2020
- 622anetak0 contributionsNever again..This school was recommended to me by one of the surf shops at bondi as I asked for a school that does 1 day trips. I booked via their website but never got a confirmation. Had to call 2 times to confirm the booking. On the day the driver was 30 minutes late. The group was literally a couple of kids and me. As a solo traveller in her 30s I did not intend to spend a day with kids... Wed rove to the beach and picked up the equipment-old for am boards which were missing chunks and clearly done their time. In total I spent tops 2 hours in the water. The instructor was focusing on the kids and also asked the kids all the time for making any sort of decision (food, when to leave and what to do). I also don't think that the instructor is a fully qualified instructor, rather a holiday surf boy who picked surfing up on the go. He either hung out on his board or with the kids, or was checking his phone. We then proceed to have some lunch- cheap sausages and cheap break fro. The supermarket. All in all I was glad once it was over. Don't get me wrong, the instructor was a nice chap and we had a nice chat but I think if I want to learn surfing properly I will book next time a school that takes it seriously, is organised and knows what they are doing.Written 29 March 2019
- Rob G0 contributionsFull day surf lessonAwesome day out with the instructor Deano, very much an Aussie surf adventure. Deano really knows his stuff and was great at advising each student how they could improve their stance, timing and also other useful information such as reading the waves and maneuvering the board in the water. Over the last 20 years, I've had five lessons in three countries and this was by far the best and my technique has improved wholly. All I need now is to keep it up.....Written 22 March 2019
- turnpenny20 contributionsAmazing DayEpic day! Got some great pointers and then spent the whole day out on the water. Was catching waves like a pro by the end.Written 7 February 2019
- Franny L0 contributionsWe had a blastThe four of us (two Germans and two French) had an amazing day surfing on a private beach with a lot of privacy and were being taken care of amazingly :) By the end of it we had all managed to catch some waves all on our own!Written 21 November 2018
- elinb180 contributionsDidn’t even get to surfMy friend tried to book this for my visit in Sydney. She was basically given the run around by the co-ordinator when she tried to book us on. He never appeared to have his diary and was always out but never managed to return her calls when he was home(that is unless he doesn’t have one) Rather disappointing as surfing was one of the activities I really wanted to do.Written 2 January 2018
- sarah c0 contributionsthe best surf lessonThis was really good. It was raining but the surfer dude was so awesome and happy that we all forgot about the rain and had so much fun. The staff really patient with me I was having a difficult time to stand but I did it in the end and he made me feel like a superhero! Barbeque was great, surfing makes you really hungry and there was so much food!Written 8 April 2017
- Pascal R0 contributionsBest Week in AustraliaMe and my two friends booked the 5 days cours, it was for everyone sn unforgattable time, we had a very nice accomodation a house on a lake, and we had the best teacher he showed us everything every beach, every good spot to make pictures finally we all can stand up and catch waves someti,ed big ones,we really lerned how to surf and he wakes us up in the morning, " wanky wanky hand of snaky " best one would do it to 1000% again, NAS is the best hope see you in switzerland.Written 6 February 2017
- sashak8530 contributions1 day surfing tripMy first surfing lesson and it was amazing. Our teacher was a proper surfer with a lot of experience. He was explaining everything very clearly and spend a lot of time with you individually considering it was about 8 people. The location was beautiful and not crowded. It was a bit cloudy in the morning and i was dreading to get cold in the water, but surprisingly wet suit helped a lot and you get warm quickly after spending 10 minutes in the water. The only down side there were quite a few blue bottles on the day so a few people got stung, however it wasn't too bad and you could still surf with a little bit of pain ). Really want to continue learning to surf! Thank you for the experienceWritten 2 February 2017
- Marizabelcgc0 contributionsA great little day outWe discovered this one day tour via Adrenaline and it became the highlight of our week in Sydney. The group was big (24) but there where 5 instructors including at least three always in the water correcting everyone's individual technique. The environment but friendly and relax and still we caught lot's of waves! The lunch was a simple bbq but there was plenty of food for everybody.Written 2 January 2017
- cnwolkie0 contributionsbest weekend!I did the 2 day surf camp with 4 other girls and had the most incredible time with Deano, Elmo and Justin. They are very accommodating, loads of fun, and awesome instructors. They had all 5 of us standing up on the first day! The food was delicious, the camp was perfectly located between a lake and beach, and all of the other surrounding beaches are stunning. I highly recommend these guys! You'll get the perfect Aussie surfer experience.Written 13 September 2016
- Ruth G0 contributionsGood value day tripI have to admit this was one of my favourite activities whilst I was in Sydney and felt it offered really good value for money. The tutor was patient, enthusiastic and we were taken to an excellent beach for those who are new to surfing. We were provided with a healthy and plentiful lunch, some great photo's were taken and the tutor made a real effort to make sure that everyone was talking and having an enjoyable time.Written 2 April 2016
- Eleanor_ka0 contributionsSurfing is about lifestyleIf to describe experience I got with Waves surfschool is that Surfing is about the lifestyle. When I arrived to Sydney to visit my friend, I didn't manage to surf.. But once I saw the surfers in the waves and found the deals from WSS I couldn't give up but apply And I have never regret) It was one of the best exprience from the whole trip to AU. Overall it exceeded my expectations. I have chosen that surf school because of their beneficial trade-off and a wide range of deals I could choose as surf-study trip. Moreover, it was quite cheaper than other schools’ offered that time. Anyone could take from one-day lesson to a week-trip with visiting national parks and famous kangaroos like my new friends did in a camp. I took 4 days and it was great from the first moment I meet new people there at the train station. In relation to instructors, I have to tell everybody about Ekker , who not only did his best as to teach everybody how to stand on the board and enjoy the surfing but also he was an extraordinary person(just a real surfer) and a great cook!! I could not even imagine that we will be offered a kind of “fine-dining” for breakfast and dinners. We had no many sandwiches ..:) but we had much more!!! like Italian pasta for lunch, Indian carry for dinner and pancakes for breakfast from out teacher))) Fortunately he preferred healthy food himself. The accommodation was also above all the praise, since we were living in a cozy cottage with a barbeque area not far from the beach. The cottage had three bedrooms with two twin-rooms and one with bunk beds for 4 people and a large kitchen and roomy living room. In addition, I would like to mention, that I meet great people there with different values, hobbies, interests and life stories that made our evening very interesting from different parts of the world. And I would like to thank you guys (WSS) for uniting such people at your school. We still keep in touch although we spent together just 4 days))) And the last but not the least, we were surfing with dolphins at the one of most beautiful beaches at Seal Rocks. P.S. Those, who had an ability to stay longer (a whole week), they saw and feed the kangaroos in real nature))Written 12 March 2016
- Jeremy N0 contributionsGreat fun - picturesque locationPick up was smooth as silk. Had a great conversation with the other students as we drove down to the so-special-it-should-be-a-secret surf location. Lesson was really fun with some hilarious and helpful explanations of basic surfing manoeuvres. It was super windy but thanks to help from the instructors, I was able to stand up quite a few times and felt like I progressed massively by the end of the day:) Definitely keen to do another trip with Robby, Corinne and Dino:)Written 19 February 2016

I did a day trip with the waves surf school back 2019. They really did a great job in teaching complete beginners (aka me) this really tough sport. They paid lots of attention to everyone and didnt let anyone fall behin just because he/she didnt immediately get it. The people where all really friendly and the lunch break was quite good. I cant say that im a pro now but I have the feeling that I got the basics and I would consider doing on a second trip with them. The took pics of you (only if you wanted to) while you where surfing so you can have a nice memory pic of your day (even though getting the pictures over Facebook/ Instagram/ Whatsapp) took QUITE A WHILE. But i got them eventually :) definetly would recomed

I did a 1 day tour that went ahead despite dangerous conditions and a storm (no refunds for the booking). The food we were served for lunch was chicken they had picked up from the supermarket a few hours before. The teaching was mostly directed at a few of the young women there who were notably uncomfortable at the way that they were treated by the guides on the day.
There just seems to be a gross lack of professionalism to this company and it is probably worth paying a little more for a more professional company with less horny instructors.

So, me and my husband booked an one-day surf trip with Dean. It was great! He picked us up right on time. Beautiful beach and great water for newbies to learn how to surf. We spent around 3-4 hours in the water surfing. We learned the basics on the beach for about 15-20 minutes and then practiced and had fun in the water for the rest of the day.
We were a group of 10 adults, just enough people in one group I think - if we would have been more we would have been to many.
As we only eat halal food they brought us a vegeterian alternative. The lunch was very simple but really good! Beef hotdogs in tortilla bread with different dressings and sallad, tomato, cheese and taco chips. And for us they made grilled zucchini instead of hotdogs. We really enjoyd it. (As you are going in to the water to surf again after lunch you don't want to eat a heavy meal..)
These things were included: transport back and forth, wet suit, surfboard, lunch.
So when you go you probably only need to bring bathingsuits, water, sunscreen, towel.
So I think that's everything. We really enjoyd our day with Dean, his Coworker and son. Thank you guys!
