Took the tour on 12th Feb, caught the first red bus tour of the morning. Great way to see Sydney and work out what there is on offer. We had pre booked as had many others, it got a little busy because several people needed to pay and wanted to ask questions.
Do your homework and check which tour you want, the more pro active you are the better your trip will be. I recommend downloading the app, great for tracking the busses en route and where the pick up spots are. The driver was a bit swamped, so he let everyone on and sorted tickets later to avoid too late a start. Smart move driver. After a few stops we had to transfer to another bus to continue red tour as our bus had to do blue tour. However, the driver made it quite clear what was happening and made sure everyone who wanted to swap busses could. Not ideal, but the driver did his best, some people are like herding sheep!!, it's not always the company's fault if things don't go smoothly. We managed to see loads by hopping on and off and sometimes walking a short distance to get on at a stop further along. At the end of the day, we wanted to curtail some of the tour. At this point a couple of the drivers were truly helpful, gave us great and detailed advice and even called one of the other buses to say we were trying to get across to his route. Great service drivers. Thankyou so much, you made our trip great. 😊👏👏

My wife and I purchased a ticket which gave us 48 hrs on the HO/HO bus tours, one day Captain Cook Sydney Harbour HO/HO ferry and the Rocks walking tour. Great value. We did both bus tours on day one, selected where we wanted to visit on day two (Opera House, Botanic Gardens, Fish Market and Chinese Gardens). On day three we used the HO/HO ferry to visit Taronga Zoo and Manly Beach. And on day four we took the Rocks walking tour. Great value. The buses (and the ferries) were punctual, and the transfer from the Sydney tour to the Bondi Beach tour was well co-ordinated with only a few minutes wait. Excellent timing. Highly recommended.

Great rainy day activity to get to know the city. We did the City Tour (red line) and then transferred at Central Station stop to blue line Bondi Tour and then transferred back at Central Station stop to finish the red line tour. Mark (our driver) took care of explaining things to us and giving us some extra insight into the stops on our red line City Tour. We also had a chance to grab coffee when we changed to blue line Bondi bus, which was perfect. Would love to do this again on a nicer day and sit on the top. You really need to sit on top to get good pictures, and you have to be ready to take pictures quickly, but we were able to get some nice views inside during the rainy day too.

I liked reading your review especially the part that noted our hop on hop off tour is a great activity for a rainy day - that is a very positive way to look at a tour which is designed as an orientation tour for visitors to Sydney. I agree all of our drivers are the salty of the earth and are ready to help you with any questions you may have to ask. Big Bus is a global company and we operate in 23 cities globally although we focus on Local experiences and we ensure every one of our passengers is inspired by the Spirit of Adventure. See you again sometime soon maybe in another BIG BUS City across the globe.

The bus was ok, clean, neat and tidy. No problems with the audio commentary. The main problem with this is that it is veeeery slooooow. Bus driver takes a long time to sell tickets to people boarding the bus at most stops. The most RIDICULOUS thing is that as the bus reached the Circular Quay stop, all passengers were asked to get off the bus, and wait for 20 minutes for the next bus regardless! NOT GOOD for people with a short time in Sydney! The worst thing was the comment from the driver: "It's not my problem!". They need to add warnings about this rubbish type of service to their brochures. NOT HAPPY :-(

We decided to go on this tour because there was a Chinese commentary available. We tried to catch the early bus at Central Station. It turned up 15 mins late and it then took the conductor another 10 mins to sort out the tickets. No conductor travels with the bus so at some stops it took 10 mins to sort out the tickets. So after 1hr 30 mins we were about half way round near Circular quay. The driver then came and told us the bus was changing route and going to Bondi beach. So we stayed on the bus and ended back where we started. After more dealing with tickets we set off for Bondi arriving 3 hours after we started
We got off at Bondi and later caught a return bus. On the route we stopped outside the Australia Museum and most people got off only to find the Museum is shut and being refurbished. They are too lazy to record new commentary to deal with closures of attractions. Also because they don't use conductors on the bus you spend half your time waiting for the driver to deal with the tickets. The whole thing is designed to maximise revenue and minimise costs with customer service a very low priority

Every city we visit, the big bus tour is always our first activity to book! Not only because it is an easy way to get around the city and to the main tourist spots, but you also learn so much more than you would just walking around by yourself. I always pre book the bus tour before I go, and they never disappoint. In Sydney, I booked the 48 hour tour, which for me was the right decision as I already had other activities and tours booked in with other companies therefore the 48 hours gave me enough flexibility to be able to do complete full tour. There are two separate routes on this tour, one which mainly stays within the city centre and the other ventures out into Bondi. I definitely think they are both worth doing due to the city being so big, you can compact all of the main spots into two tours. As we visited the city in summer, the buses were always quite full but never to the point we had to stand. The top deck obviously would fill up a lot quicker than the lower deck, however the tour is not ruined by this. There will be a slight limit on visibility on the bottom deck, however you get the advantage of the air conditioning on the hot summer days which is a bonus. As we do the big bus tour in the majority of cities we visit, the only down side to the Sydney tour was that we found locating the bus stops a little more difficult than we have in other cities. Some cities have a big obvious stand at each stop, however Sydney only had a little poster in general bus stops which were not very obvious.

This was awful, hot delays where bus change over was not matched up. Very over booked buses, on the day we went the poor staff seemed under a lot of pressure from many annoyed customers. Out of all our attractions this was the most disappointing.

We couldn't make up our minds on what to do and really didn't want to drive the rental car in the city. The bus stopped 1/2 block from condo we were in which made this a great option. We are not at all bus tour folk, but this was pretty cool way to see the entire city! Used our own Bose headphones which worked out really well as it gets a bit windy if you ride on top! Kinda felt like we were in a movie, hair blowing in the wind, sights going by! Some drivers were much better then other, Pete was the best! Some could care less if you were on or not.
The company should think about a better narrator and/or at least have them tell you which stop you are at ad/or mark or number the stops to match the maps given out. We missed a stop or two, so pay close attention. Being in Bondi Beach as our pick up, it is terribly difficult to try and get to the free walking tour or boat rides in time. You really need to days if starting in Bondi.

For those reading through these helpful reviews. Here is a suggestion for a great day out. The tours run every 45 minutes on the red route which stops at all the landmarks across the Sydney City Route. The Blue Route which takes you to Bondi beach is every two hours so it is best to join the 9:30 red route tour at Circular Quay on the corner of George Street and Alfred Streets and do the Red loop as an orientation 9:30am-11:00am. Then have a walk around the rocks for 15-20 minutes before the 11:30am bus departs stop one and joins the Bondi Blue Route Bus at Stop 3 at approximately 11:45am. You can head down to Bondi now and be dropped of at about 12:15pm at Bondi Beach for a 2 hour leisure discovery of Bondi beach, the Bondi Baths and find one of the cool cafes or restaurants to have some lunch. There are also plenty of hip men's hairdressers in Bondi beach area - so maybe a shave. Fish & Chips is a great tradition sitting down on Bondi beach. Then you can re-join the Bondi and bays Blue Tour at 2:15pm and head back through Watsons Bay, Rose, Bay and Double Bay towards the city arriving at Central stop 24 at 3:00pm. a short 30 minutes stroll around central station to see the Grand concourse and head back to stop 24 to meet up with the Red Route Bus which will take you back to Stop 1 Circular Quay past the Fish markets, Maritime Museum, Chinese Gardens, Aquarium, harbour Bridge. the Rocks and you are done.

I love hop on hop off tours because they're such a good way to learn what a city has to offer. I was really disappointed in this one. The audio is recorded and is only about 60 seconds for each area, so you listen to a lot more music than narrative. The narrative is pretty brief. It will tell you what I at the stop for you to go see, but very little as to why you should go see it. It also didn't take you directly to several places, like it would say hop off here for the fish market, and you couldn't see the fish market. The audio also seemed to get stuck and repeat itself. This is also the first hop on hop off where when it gets back to stop 1, everyone has to get off and move to the first bus in line. Too bad if you had a really nice spot up top. There was also a lot of confusion when the driver would stop before the audio said why, such as at the railway station. It was still a nice way for a tired tourist to ride around for 4 hours in the afternoon to see what I might want to go back to the next day.

My family are in Sydney for 2 days and thought that we would use the bus tour as a way of seeing the city in a short period of time. The buses were over crowded and had to stand downstairs all the way to Bondi and therefore had no commentary and could not see any of the sights anyway! We had to wait ages for a bus that had space and there was obviously no limit on numbers. We have paid for another day but think we will give it a miss tomorrow. Worst tour bus experience ever!

Thank you for the feedback and we are sorry for not meeting your expectations. Sydney is very busy at the moment with School Holidays, Cruise Ships and New Year's Eve visitors, therefore traffic impacts and the level of customers is very high. We have been informing customers of this and potential delays, however despite this the majority of customers are boarding within our advertised wait times. When buses fill quickly and a customer does not want to wait for the next bus we will on rare occasions allow standing, after informing that commentary will be missing. I am more than happy to investigate your circumstance further if you would like to email me at janep@bigbustours.com with your day and time of travel to Bondi. Regards Jane
